At Smith a group of trained staff began implementation for "pilot"subjects,
Government, Philosphy, and Education, with hopes of using deep-linking from subject
pages and class guides. Interested teaching librarians gathered to evaluate and
decided in 2004, re-confirmed decision in 2005, not to continue implementation. The
system didn't offer enough improvement over our dynamic subject pages to warrant
staff time. The user interface is confusing, and remote hosting, results display,
"basket"and my space, DB vendor rights, and login are all problematic. UM-Amherst
tested with two courses and dropped wider implementation. AC is most active in
implementation in order to improve web access to resources by subject. The Five
Colleges will review Metalib in the spring of 2007 when the contract comes up for

Limited staff skills with php/MySQL. Complex file structures pose challenges for Fields

flexibility; benefits for automatic updating of digital db resources are considerable.
High & Low priorities not being used consistently across subjects. Subject pages not
consistent in length or scope. No data linkage with Aleph, Verde, or other systems.
Maintenance and management moved from the Web Redesign Team to Web
Coordinating Committee in 2002. New 2006 structure + connections with DST have
yet to be decided (as of Oct. 2006). Current system does not have a tool for class
guides, but would require pipeline from ALEPH for print sources. May consider move

entries. SCL contributors need frequent reminders to supply info, wording, images in
advance. Random display is compromised with publication of multiple entries per

it's labor intensive, and is updated manually as needed (approx. once a month). The
CMT is not searchable, except using "Edit>Find on page" which only brings keywords
found in FYI titles, not the full text of the entry. A review of the service and report to

                        flexibility; benefits for automatic updating of digital db resources are considerable.
                        High & Low priorities not being used consistently across subjects. Subject pages not
                        consistent in length or scope. No data linkage with Aleph, Verde, or other systems.
                        Maintenance and management moved from the Web Redesign Team to Web
                        Coordinating Committee in 2002. New 2006 structure + connections with DST have
                        yet to be decided (as of Oct. 2006). Current system does not have a tool for class

                        Original plan for coordinated management failed. Betsy Barone now handles many
                        entries. SCL contributors need frequent reminders to supply info, wording, images in
                        advance. Random display is compromised with publication of multiple entries per
                        category. Staff would like automatic archiving or complete listing of all current events
                        and exhibitions. Static Events, Exhibitions & News page addresses some need but
                        it's labor intensive, and is updated manually as needed (approx. once a month). The
                        CMT is not searchable, except using "Edit>Find on page" which only brings keywords
                        found in FYI titles, not the full text of the entry. A review of the service and report to
