LOST - 6x02 - “Progress, Part 2” TEASER 1 EXT. MARINA - MORNING (PRESENT DAY) We open on a shot of OUR MUTUAL FRIEND where we see CHARLIE PACE standing there, grinning. CHARLIE starts towards DESMOND, who is doing a poor job of collecting himself. CHARLIE Hello Desmond. DESMOND This can’t be... I mean... I saw you drown, brother. You’re dead. CHARLIE I remember talking to Penny. (charmingly, to PENNY) Nice to finally meet you. (back to DESMOND) I saw Patchy with a grenade... the window shattered. It all happened so fast. I shut the door to give you time to get out. I warned you about the boat and then I just... accepted it. I knew Claire and Aaron would be safe. DESMOND tries not to react to the mention of CLAIRE. CHARLIE (CONT’D) I did die, mate. You were right, Des, you couldn’t save me. (beat) But someone else did. As DESMOND, overcome with emotion, hugs a smiling CHARLIE, CUT TO: 2 INT. ORCHID WHEEL CHAMBER - MORNING (PRESENT DAY) We are with SAYID and NADIA. NADIA This is your purpose, Sayid. SAYID (near tears) I do not have a purpose. me die. 2 1

NADIA Let you die? If I wanted to do that I would have let you become a victim of the hit-and-run driver that killed Nadia. SAYID (confused) What do you know about that? NADIA Everyone has a destiny, Sayid. But it is the choices each one of us make which lead us to it. Your choices have brought you here. You chose to stop when I asked you for directions. As we realize that NADIA is actually JACOB, SAYID, barely holding on, manages to summon his anger. SAYID (interrupting) You? Why didn’t you stop us both? Why would you let Charles Widmore kill my wife? NADIA (JACOB) Charles Widmore did not kill Nadia, Sayid. You were used by Benjamin Linus. Surprisingly, SAYID is surprised by this. NADIA (JACOB) (CONT’D) If you turn that wheel, Charles Widmore will save your life... and I promise you that Benjamin Linus will be punished. (beat) You have a choice now, Sayid. You can die here, be with Nadia again... (beat) ...or you can turn that wheel and make things right. Without hesitation, Sayid goes to the wheel. NADIA (JACOB) (CONT’D) Thank you, Sayid. Once you do this you are free to live your life away from here. Tell Charles that Levi has taken control.

NADIA’s eyes swirl WHITE as SAYID begins to turn the wheel. As white light begins to radiate from the wheel, CUT TO: 3 EXT. JUNGLE - MORNING (PRESENT DAY) 3

We see what appears to be nothing more than a scenic landscape. Suddenly, there is a popping sound as SAWYER appears out of nowhere. This is from THE LITTLE PRINCE, just after TIME-SHIFTING SAWYER witnessed KATE deliver AARON. He looks back as if he expects to see something. Nothing. A look of sadness and loss appears on his face. TIME-SHIFTING LOCKE walks up behind him. LOCKE (quietly) James. SAWYER turns to look at him. LOCKE (CONT’D) What happened? (beat) Did you see something out here, James? SAWYER looks as if he is trying not to cry. SAWYER Don’t matter. (beat) It’s gone now. As SAWYER walks off, SMASH CUT TO BLACK: END OF TEASER MAIN TITLE - LOST

ACT ONE 1 EXT. 815 BEACH CAMP - MORNING (PRESENT DAY) 1

JACK, SAWYER, KATE, JIN and HURLEY are standing outside the jungle looking at the beach camp, where members of THE OTHERS are packing for a journey. Uh, guys? HURLEY

SAWYER Who are all of these people and why are they taking our stuff? Others? JIN

KATE Jack, is that... JACK notices too. JACK Yeah... (beat) ...that’s Locke. (shouting) Locke! LOCKE (LEVI) senses that something is wrong. LOCKE (LEVI) (to himself) Damn it! (to BEN, pointing out the motorboat) Take the Zodiac to The Orchid. As fast as you can. Someone just left the island. BEN (confused) What? What about them? LOCKE (LEVI) Them I’ve been expecting. BEN rushes to THE ZODIAC before JACK, SAWYER, KATE, JIN and HURLEY, reach the pair. SAWYER Where’s bug-eyes goin’?

LOCKE (LEVI) I sent him on an errand. (beat) Where’d you all come from? HURLEY (quickly)

1977

(without pause) Why aren’t you dead? LOCKE (LEVI) (smiling) Disappointed I didn’t pay you a visit, Hugo? Everyone else seems to want an answer as well. LOCKE (LEVI) (CONT’D) I’d love to give you all an answer, but I’m just as in the dark as you are. I guess we just chalk it up to Jacob. (beat) Where’s everybody else? JACK Juliet and Miles are dead. Sayid, Rose and Bernard... we were just about to get some supplies and go back out to look for them. JIN (to LOCKE) Where’s Sun? LOCKE (LEVI) Sun’s fine, Jin. She’s with Richard at the moment. I’m not entirely sure where they are, but she’s safe. Everyone is happy for JIN, who is overcome with emotion. HURLEY gives him a pat on the back. LOCKE (LEVI) (CONT’D) We were on our way to the caves for some water before heading to The Temple, so I’ll tell you what, Jack. Live together, die alone, right? (beat) Well we aren’t all together until we’re all together.

On JACK’s reaction, CUT TO: 2 EXT. OCEAN - CONTINUOUS AGED JULIET, looking through binoculars, notices what is happening at the beach camp. Richard? AGED JULIET 2

RICHARD Yes, Juliet? AGED JULIET They’re leaving. She hands the binoculars to RICHARD, who reaches the same conclusion. RICHARD They are. (beat) We don’t have enough time. If he’s going to The Temple I need to be there. (beat) Take us in. As they begin paddling to the shore, SWOOSH CUT TO: 3 EXT. THE ORCHID (MORNING) 3

RICHARD, JULIET, MILES and HORACE are surprised to see ELOISE return. RICHARD What happened? ELOISE (shaken up) I can’t leave yet. RICHARD (not surprised) Who did you see? My son. ELOISE

As JULIET and MILES share a look, CUT TO: 4 EXT. THE OTHERS’ CAMP SITE - THAT AFTERNOON RICHARD is in a hurry. He approaches a WOMAN. 4

RICHARD Is Charles in his tent? Yes. WOMAN

RICHARD (hurriedly) Thank you. RICHARD rushes over and into CHARLES AND ELOISE’S TENT. CUT TO: 5 INT. CHARLES AND ELOISE’S TENT - CONTINUOUS CHARLES (startled) Richard? RICHARD You need to come with me. CHARLES Where’s Eloise? RICHARD She’s with the Dharma Initiative. CHARLES (shocked) What? Why? RICHARD I’d better let her tell you. SWOOSH CUT TO: 6 INT. MEDICAL TENT (TUNESIA) - MORNING (PRESENT DAY) 6 5

Close-up on WIDMORE (OLDER CHARLES). We pull out to show that he is sitting at the bedside of MATTHEW ABADDON. It is clear that the technology in the medical tent has been given a significant upgrade since we last saw it in THE LIFE AND DEATH OF JEREMY BENTHAM. It now appears to be an expensive operation. A MAN is sitting at a monitor when suddenly,

MAN Mr. Widmore! WIDMORE (startled) Yes, what is it? MAN Someone just came through. When? Just now. WIDMORE MAN He’s on the monitor.

WIDMORE begins to rush over to the monitor. MAN (CONT’D) It looks like he’s been shot. WIDMORE is surprised when he looks at the monitor. WIDMORE My God. (beat) It’s Jarrah. SMASH CUT TO BLACK: END OF ACT ONE

ACT TWO 1 EXT. JUNGLE - MORNING (PRESENT DAY) 1

Establishing shot of JULIET and CHARLOTTE walking. We are with the TIME-SHIFTING LEFT BEHINDERS. This is, again, from THE LITTLE PRINCE. SAWYER is still pouting. LOCKE approaches. LOCKE Hey. You ready to tell me who you saw back there? SAWYER Already told you. It was nothin'. LOCKE You and I both know when we were before the flash, James. So who was it you saw? Charlie? Shannon? Yourself? SAWYER And how is it that you knew when we were, Johnny Boy? That light in the sky... (beat) ...it was from the Hatch, wasn't it? LOCKE The night that Boone died... LOCKE pauses as he looks around. hear this. He only wants SAWYER to

LOCKE (CONT’D) I went out there and started pounding on it as hard as I could. I was... confused... scared. Babbling like an idiot, asking, why was all this happening to me? We leave the framing of the scene which we are familiar with. The new camera angle suggests that they are being watched. SAWYER (quieter, due to distance) Did you get an answer?

LOCKE (quieter, due to distance) Light came on, shot up into the sky. At the time, I thought it meant something. SAWYER (quieter, due to distance) Did it? We return to the scene as originally shown. LOCKE No. It was just a light. SAWYER So why'd you turn us around then? Don't you wanna go back there? LOCKE Why would I wanna do that? While SAWYER is talking we break away from the scene again, this time by panning into the jungle. SAWYER (O.C.) (beginning to fade, due to distance) So you could tell yourself to do things different, save yourself a world of pain. We reveal LOCKE (LEVI), watching as his eyes swirl BLACK. LOCKE (O.S.) (quieter, due to distance) No, I needed that pain to get to where I am now. CUT TO: 2 EXT. JUNGLE - MOMENTS LATER RICHARD is examining the ground. RICHARD (pointing) The trail goes off that way. Toward the caves. AGED JULIET The Temple’s a long walk. probably getting water. They’re 2

RICHARD If I go now I should get to The Temple first. I’ll have enough time to let everyone know what’s going on before the other group arrives. Levi implied that he wanted everyone from the Ajira flight dead. Now I know why. (to SUN) I’ll tell him that I sent you back to convince everyone else to come join us. (beat) Don’t come back. (to AGED JULIET) You know what to do there? I got it. AGED JULIET

As the group watches RICHARD leave toward The Temple, SWOOSH CUT TO: 3 INT. HORACE’S LIVING ROOM - AFTERNOON (FLASHBACK - 1977) 3

RICHARD and CHARLES enter. They’re slightly wet, indicating that they came in through the tunnels. Eloise! CHARLES

CHARLES rushes over to ELOISE, who is in the company of DR. CHANG and HORACE. CHARLES (CONT’D) Is the baby okay? Richard wouldn’t tell me what is going on. ELOISE notices where his concern truly lies. ELOISE We’re fine, Charles, thanks for asking. (beat) But it’s time for you to step up. The survival of this island depends on me leaving it. CHARLES (shocked) You’re being exiled?

ELOISE Only technically. I had volunteered originally, but I was stopped before I turned the wheel. CHARLES Wait. You were going to leave without... What about my child? ELOISE There you go again. Your child.

CHARLES refers to DR. CHANG and HORACE. CHARLES You don’t seem to care that you’re discussing the secrets of our people in front of our enemy. (beat) What do you say we at least discuss this in private? ELOISE There aren’t going to be anymore private conversations between us. (beat) As for sharing our secrets, it seems necessary since one of our enemies is going with me. CHARLES (angry) The hell... RICHARD (interrupting) It’s a matter of life and death, Charles. And anyway it isn’t up for discussion... It’s what he wants. On CHARLES, CUT TO: 4 EXT. SWAN SITE - CONTINUOUS JULIET and MILES are with RADZINSKY. trucks in the background. We see two cement 4

On JULIET, SWOOSH CUT TO: 5 EXT. JUNGLE - MORNING (PRESENT DAY) 5

We’re with ILANA, BRAM, FRANK, SUN, AGED JULIET and their FOUR COMPANIONS. In the distance we hear SAWYER of the timetravellers call out. SAWYER (O.S.) (almost inaudible) Hello?! ILANA reacts. ILANA Did you hear that? Hear what? AGED JULIET

SAWYER (O.S.) (almost inaudible) Hello?! Anybody here?! Rose?! Bernard?! BRAM I definitely heard that. FRANK I thought everybody left the beach. So did I. AGED JULIET CUT TO: 6 EXT. 815 BEACH CAMP - CONTINUOUS From THE LITTLE PRINCE, TIME-SHIFTING LOCKE is holding a makeshift leash. JULIET What is it? LOCKE It's Vincent's. SAWYER Yeah? Well, where's the rest of the dog? Where's the rest of our people? 6

FARADAY The Zodiac's gone, too. CHARLOTTE Maybe your people took the boat. SAWYER Why the hell would they do that? MILES To get away from whoever came in those. As we establish that he is referring to THE OUTRIGGERS, CUT TO: 7 EXT. JUNGLE - CONTINUOUS We’re back with ILANA, BRAM, FRANK, SUN, AGED JULIET and their FOUR COMPANIONS, still heading toward the beach camp, FRANK Is it such a great idea to be headed toward the voices at the beach? AGED JULIET We don’t have a choice. (beat) We need to get to Hydra Island fast. It’s either go back to our boats or hike all the way to the submarine dock. On AGED JULIET, CUT TO: 8 EXT. 815 BEACH CAMP - CONTINUOUS The TIME-SHIFTING LEFT BEHINDERS are examining the boat. SAWYER Who came in these? Other Others? JULIET Don't look at me. FARADAY My question is, when are they coming back? 8 7

LOCKE Let's not wait to find out. Everyone looks to LOCKE as they start to catch his meaning. As they take the OUTRIGGER out, CUT TO: 9 INT. CAVES - CONTINUOUS A group of RANDOM OTHERS is gathering water inside of the caves. JACK, KATE, SAWYER, JIN and HURLEY enter the caves. HURLEY (to JIN) It’s cool that you’re gonna see Sun soon, dude. She might already be at that temple place we’re going to. JIN (smiling) I hope so. HURLEY And your English... maybe you shouldn’t tell her for a while. Let it be a secret. For a moment, it seems as if JIN is insulted by HURLEY’s joke. But JIN smiles. JIN Just messing with you. They both laugh. HURLEY (laughing) Not cool man. I thought you were gonna, like, judo chop me or something. HURLEY tries to do some kung-fu motions and trips. He catches himself on a rock bed. He notices something and screams. SMASH CUT TO BLACK: END OF ACT TWO 9

ACT THREE 1 INT. CAVES - CONTINUOUS JACK, KATE and SAWYER rush over as JIN helps HURLEY up. THE OTHERS who are in the cave seem concerned. JACK What is it, Hurley? Bodies. HURLEY Skeletons. 1

We see that HURLEY is referring to the bones of ADAM AND EVE, from HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN. KATE (to JACK) Adam and Eve. SAWYER This is a nice island, Freckles, but I don’t think it’s Eden. JACK After I came across the caves, our first trip back here Kate found them. Locke called them our very own Adam and Eve. When we cut to HURLEY again, we see ROSE and BERNARD (no beard) standing behind him. ROSE Don’t make a fuss about this, Hurley. HURLEY A fuss about...? JIN turns to HURLEY as he talks. HURLEY stops when he realizes who’s voice he heard. HURLEY turns around slowly. He sees ROSE and BERNARD, then glances over at his friends. JACK, KATE and SAWYER are still discussing the skeletons. JIN is looking at HURLEY, but no one is reacting to ROSE or BERNARD. No... HURLEY (CONT’D)

JIN Hurley, what’s wrong?

HURLEY No! No! No! Not you guys too! No! On HURLEY, CUT TO: 2 EXT. 815 BEACH CAMP - CONTINUOUS AGED JULIET, SUN, FRANK, BRAM, ILANA and their FOUR COMPANIONS go approach the OUTRIGGER. FRANK I’m pretty sure that there used to be two of those. BRAM looks out to the ocean. Out there! BRAM 2

Everyone turns to BRAM. BRAM (CONT’D) They took our boat! Amidst the confusion, AGED JULIET comes to a realization. AGED JULIET (remembering) We follow them. ILANA What was that? AGED JULIET (covering) We’re going to follow them. Get close enough to figure out who they are. FRANK We’re not all gonna fit in there. Who goes? AGED JULIET thinks for a moment before acknowledging the COMPANION that was not with Ilana’s group before the previous episode. AGED JULIET I know Levi didn’t meet Thomas once he got to our camp. (to THOMAS) (MORE)

"PROGRESS, PART 2" AGED JULIET (CONT'D) You’ll be able to blend in with the other group at The Temple. (to the rest) Will he recognize any of you?

ILANA I spoke with him. BRAM I sent Josh and Oscar to check out the Dharma stuff. They didn’t get back until the next morning... after he left. JOSH and OSCAR nod to confirm. AGED JULIET Okay, then. You two go with Thomas and catch up to Richard. As THOMAS, JOSH and OSCAR leave, FRANK So we just paddle out to them, hope they’re friendly, and ask why they took our boat? AGED JULIET (distant) Whatever happens, happens. As AGED JULIET, SUN, FRANK, BRAM, ILANA and their COMPANION take the other OUTRIGGER out, SWOOSH CUT TO: 3 INT. HORACE’S LIVING ROOM - AFTERNOON (FLASHBACK - 1977) MILES and JULIET enter the room with RADZINSKY. RADZINSKY Somebody tell me that this is a joke. You can’t actually expect me to believe that if I turn this wheel thing I’ll end up in the middle of the desert. HORACE That’s exactly what I expect you to believe, Stuart. RADZINSKY continues, but we instead listen to RICHARD and CHARLES talking quietly in the corner of the room. 3

CHARLES Are you kidding me? This person isn’t only going to get to use our exit, but he gets to return as well? RICHARD This was not my idea Charles. It was Jacob’s. And since it’s your turn to lead Jacob’s people, I suggest you get behind it. On RICHARD, SWOOSH CUT TO: 4 EXT. JUNGLE - AFTERNOON (PRESENT DAY) RICHARD is on a brisk walk toward the temple when THOMAS, JOSH and OSCAR catch up to him. THOMAS (catching his breath) Richard! RICHARD stops and turns to them. Thomas? RICHARD What are you doing here? 4

THOMAS We had to come back. Someone took one of the boats. There was only room for six, and Levi never saw them. Juliet thought we’d be able to blend in with the group at The Temple. RICHARD You’ll have to. Come on. As they walk away, we see BLACK SMOKE flying through the trees accompanied by the RATTLE of the MONSTER. CUT TO: 5 EXT. OCEAN - CONTINUOUS 5

From front to back, BRAM, ILANA, FRANK, THE COMPANION, AGED JULIET and SUN are following the TIME-SHIFTING LEFT BEHINDERS in the OUTRIGGER. While everyone else is rowing, ILANA checks the binoculars.

FRANK Who? Locke? ILANA trades the binoculars for BRAM’s paddle. look. BRAM Levi... but yeah... Locke. (beat) What do we do? AGED JULIET doesn’t let on that she knows who is actually in the boat. AGED JULIET Try to take him out. You sure? ILANA BRAM takes a

AGED JULIET (beat) Yeah, I’m sure. Picking up weapons from the boat, ILANA and BRAM start firing at LOCKE, who they believe to be LEVI, from the back canoe. On the front canoe, JULIET takes a shot back. In the back boat, we see AGED JULIET shove THE COMPANION out of the way and take it in the chest. She falls backward into SUN. Juliet! SUN

SAWYER (O.S.) (barely audible) Thank you, Lord! BRAM and ILANA are confused. ILANA Where’d they go? BRAM You saw that too, right? (beat) They just... AGED JULIET (interrupting) Disappeared?

Apparently finding humor in her impending death, AGED JULIET is laughing. SUN Why are you laughing? AGED JULIET Time travel's a bitch. AGED JULIET coughs blood. She pulls SUN down closer to her as if she were about to tell her something. She dies before she can. FRANK What do we do now? Suddenly, they all look back to the island as they hear the ROAR of the MONSTER in the distance. SMASH CUT TO BLACK: END OF ACT THREE

ACT FOUR 1 INT. CAVES - AFTERNOON (PRESENT DAY) HURLEY’s been filling his friends in. SAWYER So Rose and Bernard are dead now, too? HURLEY Right. But they aren’t those skeletons. Bernard said that they are buried out there somewhere and then he and Rose had a fight because he didn’t remember where they were buried. I tried to tell them that it isn’t important but... HURLEY is interrupted by the sound of THE MONSTER in the distance. CUT TO: 2 EXT. JUNGLE - CONTINUOUS 2 1

JOSH and OSCAR are bloodied and dead. RICHARD and THOMAS are running. THE BLACK SMOKE MONSTER is close. THOMAS trips and falls on his face. RICHARD notices that he is running alone and turns back. He doesn’t move once he sees THOMAS, who managed to turn onto his back before THE MONSTER began to “judge” him. After a minute, THE MONSTER flies away. CUT TO: 3 INT. CAVES - CONTINUOUS Everyone seems to have been listening to the distant sounds of THE MONSTER. HURLEY Uh, we gotta go. (beat) Now. KATE Locke should be back soon. us to wait for him. HURLEY We need to go now. KATE Hurley, why?

HURLEY ‘Cause Juliet said so, okay? SAWYER That ain’t funny. Cut to JULIET, looking as she did before the time travel, talking to HURLEY. JULIET (to HURLEY) Tell him that he was going to buy Microsoft and bet the Cowboys. HURLEY She said to tell you that you were gonna buy Microsoft and bet on the Cowboys? On a stunned SAWYER, CUT TO: 4 INT. THE ORCHID - CONTINUOUS 4

BEN arrives at THE ORCHID to find LOCKE (LEVI) there waiting for him. LOCKE (LEVI) What took you so long? BEN Very funny. What do you need me to do? LOCKE (LEVI) I need you to go. BEN (shocked) Are you still joking? No. LOCKE (LEVI)

(beat) I need you to take care of whoever went through. After that, what you do is up to you. (beat) As long as you never try to come back.

On BEN’s face, CUT TO: 5 EXT. HYDRA ISLAND BEACH - EVENING 5

FRANK, BRAM, ILANA, SUN and the COMPANION bring the OUTRIGGER to the shore. AGED JULIET lays dead inside. ILANA Sun, did Juliet tell you what the plan was once we got here? SUN No, did Richard tell you? No. ILANA

FRANK Do we go back? ILANA No. Richard made himself very clear about that. (beat) We’ll just have to wait. CUT TO: 6 EXT. JUNGLE - CONTINUOUS SAWYER, KATE, JACK and JIN are following HURLEY. JACK Hurley, where are we going? We see JULIET. JULIET (to HURLEY) Tell them that they are going to Hydra Island. And tell Jin that Sun’s already there. SMASH CUT TO BLACK: END OF ACT FOUR 6

ACT FIVE 1 EXT. JUNGLE - EVENING (PRESENT DAY) 1

We see LOCKE (LEVI) walking through the jungle. He hears voices in the distance and walks towards them, careful not to make any noise. He peeks through the trees and we see what he sees - the TIME-SHIFTING LEFT BEHINDERS. It is the scene from THIS PLACE IS DEATH, but from LOCKE (LEVI)’s angle. CHARLOTTE is speaking to JIN in KOREAN. SAWYER What'd she say? Before Jin can answer, CHARLOTTE repeats herself, in ENGLISH. CHARLOTTE (to JIN) Don't let them bring her back. No matter what... (beat) ...don't let them bring her back! (beat) This place is death! On LOCKE (LEVI)’s smirking face with the BLACK SMOKE eye effect, SWOOSH CUT TO: 2 INT. ORCHID WHEEL CHAMBER - NIGHT (FLASHBACK - 1977) RADZINSKY and ELOISE are in the wheel chamber. currently at the wheel. A long BLACK VAN pulls up to SAYID, who is unconscious. A medical team gets out, as do WIDMORE and a BODYGUARD, who was driving. The team gets SAYID into the back of the van when suddenly we hear BEN vomiting. As soon as WIDMORE notices BEN, he grabs his bodyguard’s gun and shoots BEN between the eyes before he can say a word.
