The artisan-artists are simply continuing an ancient Ibo tradition of producing fine metalwork. This jewelry is found nowhere else in the world. Island Sandbank Beach Experience: Ibo’s hidden jewel is a sand spit beach accessed by boat from the lodge. For those in search of a pristine and private beach experience this is it! Every day this beautiful beach is revealed at low tide and swept clean again by the high tide allowing you to put your own foot prints on the sand. Enjoy breakfast or lunch cooked out on the beach underneath a Bedouin style tent. Sunbathe, or take a leisurely stroll to its furthest point, and snorkel directly off into the clear blue water. It is not unusual to see pods of dolphins on the way from Ibo to the beach. Snorkelling off the sandbank: Floating the currents is effortless and as comfortable as a warm bath. We provide all snorkels and toys needed, as well as a guide to point out some of the best spots. Beneath the surface of Ibo are delicate coral fields and reef fish so neon they're hard to distinguish. There are also shy camouflaged creatures that look like part of the reef. Sometimes it just takes some hovering before all is revealed. Ibo of Yesterday Guided Tour: A great way to begin your Ibo town exploration is with the guided “Ibo of Yesterday Experience” The lodge’s professional guides will take you out on a gentle walking tour into Ibo’s beautiful stone town where you’ll encounter the ruins and beautiful architecture that house the island’s history and legends. Crumbling colonial homes and elegant architecture dating back to the 1500's, all have a page in Ibo's history book. Wandering around this colonial town you can almost feel the fascinating stories crunching under your feet and your guide will bring the history of Ibo Island alive for you. Ibo has a lost world appeal, with tales of pirates and prisoners, turtle shells and silver. Photographic opportunities are outstanding during this excursion. Ibo of today guided experience: Perhaps one of the major draw cards on Ibo Island is the chance to interact and mingle with the charismatic people of Ibo and really understand the culture of old and today. Mozambique's history has ensured that cultures have met and mingled. The people of Ibo are a blend of European, Indian, Arabic and Chinese. In addition to this, old Mozambique tribal customs and tribal religions are still respected and practiced on Ibo. The guided walk into the villages of Ibo is one of our most popular experiences and reveals the day-to-day life of the people of Ibo. Discover how traditions have blended, how culture and diversity has overlapped, creating a way of life uniquely Ibo. Visit the local witch doctor, meet some of the islanders, get an “Ibo face-mask” or even enjoy a game of football! Guided Kayaking: Kayaking, through the mangrove forests, the largest in Africa, it’s not as easy as it looks! It takes some stamina. So we throw in a guide, who assists greatly with the paddling and also has extensive knowledge on your surroundings sharing fascinating facts about the lush fertile mangrove forest – the2ndlargestinAfrica. Kayaking the winding, peaceful channels can also be done solo, but we think the popularity ratings have been greatly influenced by our expert guides. Kayaking on Ibo is very popular, and definitely an art to master before you leave! OR: Guided bird and nature walk: Ibo sits in a breathtakingly beautiful and unique location surrounded by Indian Ocean and coral reefs, the Quirimbas National Park and one of the largest groves of mangroves in Africa.
