                              THE NEW SOPRANOS?
One of the biggest arguments between TV fanatics on the internet is which is the best HBO series. Usually the choice is

were treated appallingly by Australian networks, DVD is definitely the best way to judge for yourself.
The recent Wire box set takes in all five series and while it may be difficult to get into at first, it really is worth the effort.

Regardless of the intentions, there is plenty in its favour for Frodo fans. The films are spread
out over the six Blu-ray discs and the DVDs contain about 26 hours of special features.

         A recipe by Adam Liaw
For just a taster of what you can expect from Adam Liaw’s debut

cookbook, Two Asian Kitchens, here’s one of my favourites.
Adam says pork neck is an underrated cut of meat, but its fat content
makes it perfect for roasted or barbecued dishes like this.
“Char siew (‘grilled pork’) is often seen hanging in the windows of
         Chinese barbecue shops, dyed red.
“I don’t like to use too many colourings or preservatives in my
cooking so I have left out the red colouring. If you prefer your char
siew a more traditional colour, add red colouring.”

         Serves: 4–6
         Preparation: 25 minutes
         Cooking: 40 minutes + 2 hours marinating

8 garlic cloves, roughly chopped FIVE-SPICE SALT:
2 tbsp grated ginger 3 star anise Lip-smacking:
12 cloves Char siew pork neck.
         4 tbsp honey
2 tbsp caster sugar 2 cinnamon quills
2 tbsp Shaoxing wine 1 tbsp fennel seeds
125ml soy sauce 1 tbsp Sichuan peppercorns
1kg boneless pork neck, cut into 2 tsp sea salt flakes
         5cm-wide strips

To make the five-spice salt, roast the spices and salt in a dry frying
pan over medium heat for about 3 minutes until fragrant. Cool, Enjoy the Lap of Luxury at Bannisters
grind to a powder with a mortar and pestle and transfer to a bowl.
Combine 1 tbsp of five-spice salt with the garlic, ginger, honey,
                                                                                       on the NSW south coast.
sugar, wine and soy in the mortar and grind to a loose paste. Put
the pork neck in a non-metallic shallow dish, pour the loose paste
over the top and leave to marinate in the fridge for at least 2
         hours but preferably overnight.
Preheat the oven to 200°C. Transfer the pork and marinade to a
roasting dish just big enough to hold the pork. Bake the pork for
10 minutes. Turn to coat with the reducing marinade and bake
for 25–30 minutes until glazed and caramelised and just cooked
through. (Alternatively, cook on a barbecue over medium heat.)
Rest the pork for at least 10 minutes before slicing to serve.
Note: You only need half the five-spice salt for this recipe. Keep the rest
in an airtight container to use next time.

  world first.
It’s said to be the only fitness club for nudists in an attempt to buck a downturn in
business, according to its non-nudist owner, Merche Laesca.
The gym, which is in the Basque region of Spain, already has its fair share
of opportunities for the clothes-shy, with 12 nudist beaches, a mass
nude run in a nearby town, and local swimming pools with naked
sessions for swimmers keen to improve their breast stroke.
There have even been reports that a local yoga teacher is looking into
  offering naked yoga sessions.
Based on the grand opening however, the world may as yet be unready for
the collective sight of naked fat busters sweating on their giant fitness balls.
Just four brave exercisers turned up for the chance to pump iron in the nude.
Other local gym owners don’t appear to be keen to follow suit.
“Each to his own, but I think it’s the most unhygienic thing in the world,” one owner said.
Quite. Whose turn is it on the exercise bike?

In the 18th century there was a fashion amongst the rich and useless
upper classes to travel around the world in search of bizarre and
previously unknown plants from the colonies and beyond. To house
these new examples of Nature’s creativity, Kew Gardens was built just
outside London.
Succeeding generations of green-fingered enthusiasts expanded the
site, adding whimsical buildings and palatial glasshouses to allow more
delicate exotic plants to flourish.
Today Kew is a hothouse of conservation and scientific advances, with its
Millennium Seed Bank work and a mission to educate the public through
first-hand exposure to the beauty and fragility of the botanical world.
Many now extinct plants continue to flourish in Kew, preserving its place
as one of the foremost botanical treasure houses in the world.
