Welcoming Address

Following the successful meeting of Barcelona, we have the honour to present the 4th
SOLA Congress which will be held in Bruges, Belgium. The main theme of this congress
will be Dentistry of Tomorrow – Lasers as an Integral Part?! An interesting schedule is
already prepared and we hope this will be of educational, clinical and scientific interest.
The congress social program has been designed to allow everyone an experience of the
Burgundian atmosphere of the ancient city of Bruges. During the congress all participants
will have the opportunity to view the world famous procession of the Holy Blood. The
congress centre will be located in a renovated medieval hospital “Oud St. Jan”. All hotel
accommodations are situated within walking distance.
We are looking forward to welcoming you to the medieval city of Bruges, the Venice of
the North, lying in the centre of Europe.

Blood makes Bruges a very special place to be. Half the parade is
representing scenes from the old and New Testament interpreted
by guild, trades, brotherhoods and chambers of rhetoric from the

to the relic of the blood of Jesus brought to Bruges by Derrick of
Alsace, Count of Flanders after the second crusade in 1150. Ever
since, the precious relic has been kept in the basilica of the Holy

prelates in a golden shrine and worshipped in this procession by
the members of the noble brotherhood of the Holy blood. This

General Information

About Bruges Bruges is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It rightly
deserves the name Venice of the north, canals, bridges and old
city houses make it a very romantic place to visit. The good thing
about this is that here you can find a city that has remained prac-
tically unchanged since its heyday at the end of the Middle Ages.
Bruges came to prominence in the 14-th century. However the city
lost its important position as a trading centre of the Netherlands,
which included half of the current Belgium, soon to Antwerp and
later to Amsterdam. The city has many sights to see, but it is also
very pleasant to just wander along the canals, sit down in a small
pub to taste a few special Belgian brews and then walk on, a little
less steadily maybe, but with a smile on your face!

Badges Participants should collect name badges from the conference
registration desks. As only registered participants will be permit-
ted to attend the Scientific Sessions, the Exhibition and poster
areas, you are kindly asked to wear your badge when entering the
                    congress venue.
Exhibitors will also receive badges to allow access to the appropi-
                    ate areas.
Lost badges can be replaced at the registration desk.
However, a handling fee of € 50.– will be charged.
