                                             Organizational Profile

The organization I am looking to work for in the future is the Nike Corporation. The Nike headquarters
opened its doors in 1989 in Beaverton, Oregon. Its “campus” is more than two million square feet and is
made up of 16 main buildings all named after legendary athletes. The campus includes a six-acre lake
and its largest building is 450 square feet. With relevance to the company itself, Mark G. Parker is the
President and Chief Executive Officer of NIKE, Inc and appointed to the Board of Directors in January or
2006 and has over 27 years with the company. The multi-billion dollar corporation began in 1964 by Bill
Boweman and Phil Knight. The two were track stars in Oregon and began with creating a track shoe.
Nike, however, did not publicize until December of 1980. According to Nikebiz.com, “as of May 2006,
Nike’s three main product engines - footwear, apparel and equipment - used almost 700 contract factories
in 52 countries to manufacture all Nike products, employing close to 800,000 workers. ” Nike employs
more than 30,000 people in six continents. Nike also has Nike Stores, NikeFactory Stores and
NikeWomen stores in the United States and around the world. For the 2008 fiscal year, Nike reported
revenues of $18.6 billion, a $2.3 billion increase over last year’s earnings. I am not sure who my boss
would be, but it would be the manager of the Nike Store in California that I am applying for. Nike has won
various prestigious and commendable awards including FORTUNE magazine’s "100 Best Companies To
Work For" list for the past three years, named One of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" by The
Ethisphere Institute twice, and in 2007 Nike placed #55 on BusinessWeek’s 2007 Top 100 Places to
Launch A Career list. Students gave Nike even higher marks ranking them #14 based on a survey of
44,000 undergraduates. Nike is a parent company and has five wholly-owned subsidiaries. Nike’s
subsidiaries are Cole Haan, Converse Inc., Hurley International LLC, NIKE Golf, and Umbro Ltd. The
subsidiaries alone brought in $2.6 billion dollars in revenue for the 2008 fiscal year.

To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing in response to your ad placed in the NikeBiz Job Opportunities section on the Nike
website. I would like to be considered for the position of Store Lead in Vacaville, California. I
hope that you find my studies in Business Management at Arizona State University, along with
my retail experience for FMI Merchandising qualify me for the position.

At Arizona State University, I have taken a wide range of Business classes, but my main focus is
Management. In Management you have to be versatile and able to understand many different
aspects of the business world. Courses I have taken that will help better qualify me for the
position include Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Computer Information Systems, and
Communication. In Accounting, I had a group project that required us to compare two large
retail corporations and by analyzing their financial statements, which company was best to invest
in and why. Our group received high marks on the project and I grew a better understanding of
the financial aspects of a company. In my course in Communication in a Small Group, we
overlook aspects that make a group more coherent and able to identify how they work, the
different roles taken by different members, and how to lead and accommodate diverse groups.

Although I am currently working three diversely different jobs at the moment, I feel it gives me a
broader range of versatility and ability to adapt to multiple tasks at once. I work for FMI
Merchandising in a team shop where we sell a wide range of clothing for men, women, and
children in a very fast-paced environment. I assist customers as well as work the cash register. I
also work as a receptionist at a car dealership where I use a multiline phone system while I
arrange and file accounting and service papers, as well as enter customer information for the
salesmen in a database. I am a fast learner who does not mind taking the leadership role and is
great at sticking to a strict schedule.

More information about my education and experience is included on the enclosed resume, but I
would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you at your convenience to discuss my
application. You can leave a message for me anytime at (602) 487-2182 or at

Yours Truly,

Danielle Padilla
