 2010
 MEN’S SOCCER
 SEASON OUTLOOK
William Jewell College men's soccer head coach Chris Cissell is excited about the 2010 season. The Cardinals return a team rich
with experience including 5 seniors who earned post-season honors in 2009.Heart of America All-Conference and National Soccer
Coaches Association of America Scholar All-Region forward Brett Lewis (SR,Blue Springs,Mo.) and team tri-captain defender Micah
Holdaway (SR,Bellevue,Neb.) will be major contributors in the Cardinals offense and defense.Three more Scholar All-Region play-
ers will have an impact in 2010: midfielder team tri-captain Justin Beck (SR, Louisburg, Kan.); defender A.J. Shinabargar (SR, Lee's
Summit, Mo.); and goalkeeper Kyle Heiman (SR, Liberty, Mo.). Defender Tyre Brown (SR, Raytown, Mo.) and midfielder Jimmy
Pearson (SR, St.Louis, Mo.) complete a very strong class of senior student athletes.

“Our seniors are the heart and soul of our team," said Cissell. "They've grown from promising recruits to proven and determined
veterans."

All-Conference junior forward and team tri-captain Troy Green (JR, Lawson, Mo.) leads a class of juniors which includes defender
Tyler Allen (JR, Hannibal, Mo.); midfielder David Fox (JR, Salina, Kan.); defender Jesse Gillespie (JR, Lee's Summit, Mo.); defender Will
Griffin (JR,Springfield,Mo.);midfielder Nathan Seider (JR,Lee's Summit,Mo.);and defender Mitch Williams (JR,Overland Park,Kan.).
Goalkeeper Justin Schmidt (JR, Columbia, Mo.) will battle for the very competitive goalkeeper position.Versatile newcomer Sam
Braverman (JR, Sedalia, Mo.) will add depth offensively and defensively.

"Troy had a breakout 2009 and we think many of his classmates could breakout in 2010," said Cissell.

Midfielder Chris Binns (Overland Park, Kan.); defender Peter Nechvatal (SO, Kansas City, Mo.); and midfielder Mo Ramahi (SO,
Overland Park, Kan.) were starters during their freshman year and are expected to impact the lineup again. Midfielder James
Bledsoe (SO,Blue Springs,Mo.); forward Forest McCurren (SO,Jefferson City,Mo.); defender Ryan Squires (SO,Springfield,Mo.); and
forward Nic Wheeler (SO,Huxley,Iowa) had strong spring seasons and will compete for more playing time this fall.Three transfers
will also add to a deep sophomore class: forward Cole Prather (University of Tulsa/Raymore, Mo.); defender Christian Jones
(Rockhurst University/Overland Park, Kan.); and midfielder Michael Manolof (Rockhurst University/Houston,Texas).

"We have a dynamic group of returning sophomores and three sophomore transfers who complement our upper classmen and
can also change a game for us," Cissell commented.

The freshman class is another bright group of young and talented soccer student athletes who will add to the tradition of excel-
lence associated with William Jewell College soccer.Defender Ian Kennedy (Springfield,Mo.) was the Southwest Missouri Player of
the Year and First Team All-State. Goalkeeper Colby Martin (Overland Park, Kan.) was named Kansas City Star All-Metro First Team
and First Team All-State, while defender Chad Newman (Lee's Summit, Mo.), forward Patrick Foglio ( Lee's Summit, Mo.) and mid-
fielder Kyle Nixon (Smithville,Mo.) also earned Kansas City Star All-Metro and All-State honors during their high school soccer cam-
paigns.

"Our five freshmen have had high school and club soccer experiences that will help them at the college level,” said Cissell. “We
expect these five players to work hard and contribute to the team immediately."
