QUESTION:
Exuse me good people of sitepoint forum..I'm overloading with info right
this minute but just want a simple answer to my question as I'm getting
ready to finish up my site..I've got just 2 meta tags, they're different
contents..
my meta tages are keywords (even tho I've read that S.engines dont use
them no more) and description...
What I would like to know is why do some sites have like 10 different met
tag? and i would like to use this meta tag

Quote:
<meta name="robots" content="index, follow">

I've seen people use, follow and no follow, what does that meta tag mean
pls? is it significant in SEO and what other tags are neccessary...thanks
for your time.

ANSWER:
You only need to use the robots meta tag if you DON'T want search engines
to index or follow the links on a page. Since their default behavior is
to both index and follow you don't need to tell them if that is what you
want to do.

In effect the meta robots tag is a poor man's robots.txt file.
