CANTERBURY CHRIST CHURCH UNIVERSITY
UNDERGRADUATE ACADEMIC FRAMEWORK
CONVENTIONS
INTRODUCTION
1 These conventions are to be read in conjunction with the Undergraduate
Academic Framework (‘the Framework’) and, where appropriate, the
Protocols Relating to the General Modular Scheme (‘the Scheme’) of
Canterbury Christ Church University (‘the University’).
2 The Conventions relate to the following programmes:
a. Psychology and Psychology (Sport and Exercise) with the General
Modular Scheme
b. Combined Honours Degree in Professional Development (Work
Based Learning) within the General Modular Scheme by Part Time
Study
c. BSc Policing by Part Time Study
3 The purpose of the Conventions is to identify specific requirements within
named programmes within the Scheme. The programme and module
codes relate to the specified programmes and modules.
4 The Conventions have the same status as the Framework and the
Protocols. In the event of a conflict in interpretation, the Conventions take
precedence.

AND STEM PS3) AND PSYCHOLOGY (SPORT AND EXERCISE) (PROGRAMME

7 The degree classification must be 2(ii), or better.
8 A student who fails Psychology Research Project (Individual Study)
(Module Code: MPSMD3PRP) but satisfies the University’s requirements for
the award of a degree may, at the discretion of the Board of Examiners,
re-sit the module to gain the necessary accreditation. However, any
additional marks gained for the re-sit will not be used to improve the
degree classification.
Conventions Relating to Combined Honours Students
9 A Combined Honours student must study modules from the Psychology
programme to the value of 80 credits at Level Two and to the value of 80
credits at Level Three. This degree will be called ‘Psychology with X’,
where X denotes the other subject.
10 Students taking 80 credits in Psychology at Level Two must take both
Quantitative Research Methods in Psychology (20 credits) (Module Code:
MPSMD2QRM) and Qualitative Research Methods in Psychology (20
credits) (Module Code: MPSMD2QMP).
11 Students must take, and pass, Psychology Research Project (Individual
Study) (Module Code: MPSMD3PRP) at Level Three.
CONVENTIONS RELATING TO COMBINED HONOURS DEGREE IN PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT (BY WORK-RELATED LEARNING) AND 'NAME OF ANOTHER

Level 1.
CONVENTIONS RELATING TO BSc POLICING BY PART TIME STUDY
(PROGRAMME CODE: PSSDGPOLICE)
17 Students enter the programme directly at Level 2 of the programme and
entrants need to demonstrate sufficient evidence of learning, whether
experiential or certificated, to be eligible for AP[E]L to the value of 120
credits at Level 1 and 60 credits at Level 2.
18 Students are granted ‘advanced standing’ initially that allows them to join
the programme at level 2, but the advanced standing is only converted to
credit on successful completion of three 20 credit Level 2 modules.
19 Direct entry to Level 3 is open only to students awarded the Foundation
Degree in Policing or Dip HE Police Studies or Public Services (Policing) by
the University.
20 Students are required to complete and pass 60 credits at HE level 2 and
120 credits at HE level 3.
21 Students may not select a starred module.
22 The degree classification is calculated on the marks for all modules
completed at level 2 and the best 100 level 3 credits., with Level Three
marks weighted to Level Two marks in the ratio 60:40
MODIFICATIONS TO THE CONVENTIONS
23 The University recognises there may be a need to modify the Conventions
over time, due to both internal and external developments, including
change of specified programmes and modules. When a modification is
required to the Conventions, the Director of Academic Frameworks will
propose such amendments to the Quality and Standards Committee,
together with a statement as to the implications of, and the means of
implementing, the change. The Quality and Standards Committee will
make recommendations to the Academic Board, which will have the
authority to make changes to the Conventions.

24 The Conventions will be subject to periodic review every five years by the
Director of Academic Frameworks, who will present the findings to the
Quality and Standards Committee.
APPROVAL
25 The Vice Chancellor and Principal approved the Conventions as part of the
Undergraduate Academic Framework, on behalf of the Academic Board,
on 2 July 2008.
