• Giulio Gianini was born in rome, Italy in 1927
  director of photography and documentary maker

• Emanuele Luzzati was born in Genoa, Italy in 1921
  studied in Lausanne at the Ecole des Beaux Arts

    Giulio Gianini b. 1927 and Emmanuale Luzzati b. 1921

    Luzzatti worked as a painter, theatre set designer, ceramist,
    draughtsman, building stage sets and designing costumes for some of
    the most important national and international theatre companies.

    illustrated books by Gianni Rodari, Italo Calvino and Grimm Brothers.

• Together with Giulio Gianini he has made several cartoon films
  awarded with Oscars

    Luzzati makes the sets and characters

    Giulio Gianini b. 1927 and Emmanuale Luzzati b. 1921

    Luzzatti designed over 400 sets for plays, operas and dance shows,
    working for the most important directors and the leading theatres both in
    Italy and abroad. He has also illustrated numerous children's books. He
    designed decorative panels, embossments and wall hangings for the
    ships Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Ausonia and Marco Polo.

• 1975 with Tonino Conte and Aldo Trionfo, he founded a theatre called
  Teatro della Tosse in Genoa which is still running today.

    Osvaldo Cavandoli (Cava) b.1920

    1969 created the character who made him worldwide well known as a
    master of animation: LA LINEA.

    a masterpiece of graphic and rhythmic essentiality, has been awarded
    in international festivals and is broadcasted in some 40 countries.

• 1941 born in Andreyevka, Penza, USSR
  widely regarded as one of the most innovative animators of all time

• 1943 during WWII family were evacuated to Moscow
  studied at art school, worked in a furniture factory before embarking on
  a two-year course attached to the state animation studio Soyuzmultfilm

    1961 started work as an animator in Soyuzmultfilm
    met his future wife and creative partner, Francesca Yarbusova, with
    whom he collaborated on many of his films.
    worked as an animation artist on some 50 films

• 1967 his first film 25th, the First Day

    Through this project I discovered that animation is plastic time. This
    influenced all my subsequent work and I learned another lesson from
    this film: never make a concession if it goes against your conscience'.

    widely regarded as Norstein's masterpiece and is the result of his third
    collaboration with Yarbusova and Zhokovsky, who photographed
    houses and old cars in the Moscow neighbourhood where Norstein had
    grown up.

    1984 an international panel of animation experts proclaimed Tale of
    Tales the best animated film of all time.
