Celebration Guidelines FOR THE BC150 YEARS “FEASTIVAL” PROGRAM
TO HONOUR THE PAST … CELEBRATE THE FUTURE of BC Farmers’ Markets

BC is celebrating 150 years and we have a lot to celebrate - the food, people and culture of
your community! You are invited to use your imagination to create a celebration for Farmers’
Markets in 2008 by hosting your own market Feastival! Your event or ‘Feastival’ should tie in with the theme
of honouring the past and celebrating the future of your Farmers’ Market by highlighting the availability and
diversity of local foods.

PROGRAM GOALS:
To showcase the important contribution of Farmers’ Markets to their communities

REGISTER YOUR FEASTIVAL EVENT BY APRIL 30TH AND RECEIVE:
           •   1 durable vinyl market banner (10’ x 30”)
           •   Financing
           •   Promotional Materials
           •   Promotional Exposure
           •   BC150 Farmers Market Awards Opportunities

        DETAILS:
           •   Financing: $100 - $500 (depending on # of registrants and the scale of your Feastival).
               Please note: only one registration permitted per full BCAFM member Market. Funding will be
               granted for Feastival marketing, advertising and promotional costs – not for capital costs.

           •   Promotional Materials:
               Banner
               BC150 Years Balloons
               Media Tool Kit – includes a CD Rom containing:
                         Graphic files for the BC150 Years word mark, BCAFM logo – in full colour & B/W
                         Promotional tools templates - press release, print ad, poster
                         Useful tips on fundraising and obtaining sponsorship

           •   Promotional Exposure:
               Your event will be promoted on the BC150 Years’ interactive online calendar, available to all
               communities, local government agencies and the public, and through online feature articles on their
               website. You will also benefit from the awareness created through a province wide advertising
               campaign promoting the BC150 Years program. Although this campaign will not promote specific
               community events, it will raise awareness of the BC150 Years brand thus benefiting your event!

           •   BC150 Farmers Market Awards – an opportunity to win one of three BC150 Farmers’ Market Awards
               valued at $600 each - there will be one award available in each category:
                   • Small Market Membership – 1-19 registered vendors
                   • Medium Market Membership – 20-39 registered vendors
                   • Large Market Membership – 40 + registered vendors

              The BC150 Farmers' Market Awards valued at $600 will consist of:
                 • a complimentary 2009 full BCAFM membership plus your choice of:
                 • one Caravan Market canopy OR $200 cash

       The BC150 Farmers Market Awards will be determined by the quality and content of your Feastival Report.
       Award Criteria will include how your Feastival helped your Market to:
                 • increase your Market profile
                 • Increase community involvement (i.e. number of community partners and sponsors)
                 • Increase number of customers, vendors, and new products
                 • create excitement among vendors

AS A FEASTIVAL REGISTRANT YOU WILL:
   •   be a fully paid 2008 BCAFM Full Member

   •   create your own unique event(s), or Feastival, that ties in with the theme of honouring the past and
       celebrating the future of your Farmers’ Market by highlighting the availability and diversity of local foods.
       We encourage you to involve your community in your Feastival as much as possible.
       A series of events is encouraged!
       You may consider creating an experience that is a Feastival in terms of:
           o Local foods grown or processed
           o Market memories; or
           o Whatever you think will tie-in with the overall theme of honouring the past and celebrating the future
       To get those creative juices flowing, refer to the BC150 Years Celebration Feastival Ideas

   •   submit promotional templates using the BC150 Years word mark to Sher for approval

   •   use the BC150 Years word mark in full colour or in black and white for Feastival related advertising,
       promotions and communications materials i.e. brochures, posters, t-shirts, etc. Graphic Templates will be
       supplied on CD Rom by the BCAFM. For those willing, we encourage the use of the BC150 Years word mark
       throughout the market season.

   •   submit your Feastival wrap-up report by November 15th, 2008 (See below)

IMPORTANT DEADLINES:
   •   Sher Hackwell, the BC150 Years Coordinator, will follow up with you two weeks prior to your Feastival date to
       ensure that your event details are up-to-date in order to post them on the BCAFM and BC150 websites in a
       timely manner
   •   All promotional and advertising materials sporting the BC150 Years word mark must be submitted for
       approval to Sher Hackwell 14 days prior to print production. Please note: only the original template needs

   •   November 15th - Final deadline for Feastival Wrap-up Report

FEASTIVAL WRAP-UP:
By November 15th, 2008, Markets will submit a Feastival Report consisting of:
     • photos – a minimum of 10 photos of your Feastival events that show community and vendor involvement,
       and Market success
     • samples of print materials including press releases, advertising and promotional materials using the BC150
       word mark. If samples are not feasible (e.g. t-shirts) then a photo will be acceptable.
     • a questionnaire (to be provided)or, for those who are keen to win one of the BC150 Farmers Market Awards,
       a more elaborate written description (up to 500 words) that describes and summarizes your Feastival
       event(s) and any measurements of success that can be included on the BCAFM website
