                                         (Learning Support Tutor)
Oasis College, in collaboration with Staffordshire University, is able to offer an internship for Masters
Degree students. You will undertake the MA in a minimum of 12 and maximum of 24 months (fees
waived) to research an aspect of community engagement undertaken within the Oasis Group. The
intern must meet the entry requirements and be registered on one of the following awards:

           MA in Children and Families Ministry
           MA in Community Ministry
           MA in Pastoral Ministry
           MA in Youth Ministry

The internship is for a 12-24 month period beginning 1st September 2011 and studies must be
completed within a 24 month period from the start of the internship.

The internship is offered as a package with the part-time (0.5 FTE) paid role of Learning Support
Tutor within the College staff team (see pages that follow for a role description). This role is offered
to enable the successful candidate to take a full role as part of the College staff team during their
studies and to contribute to the development of the wider College programme.

Purpose of Role:                       To provide tutoring in study skills and support the operation of learning services at
                                       Oasis College, London, in accordance with the ethos and values of the College.

Role Context:                          Oasis College is a higher education institution and a part of the international Oasis
                                       group of organisations united by a Christian ethos. The College exists to provide
                                       teaching, learning and research in work and ministry with children, young people,
                                       families and their communities.



                                        Areas of responsibility and specific duties:

Student Tutoring*                      1. Facilitate support for students with additional learning needs
                                              a. Liaise with external agencies regarding support for students with registered
                                                   or identified additional needs
                                              b. Monitor learning support assessments and disseminate outcomes to
                                                   appropriate staff
                                              c. Signpost students to specialist services
                                       2. Provide learning support tutorials for students with registered learning needs
                                              a. Act as key worker for registered students
                                              b. Provide one-to-one tutorials
                                              c. Proof read assignments
                                              d. Record and report on student progress

Learning Advice                        3. Contribute to learning advice services
Services                                      a. Be available to support the development of generic study skills for students
                                                  through drop -in ‘surgeries’ or by personal arrangement
                                              b. Provide generic learning support workshops and/or tutorials throughout the
                                                  academic year in liaison with academic staff
                                       4. Provide learning and study advice resources
                                              a. Produce learning advice material for Oasis College students
                                              b. Develop and maintain tools and resources that support learning
                                              c. Liaise with Staffordshire University to utilise available learning advice
                                                  resources and promote their use

Library Services                       5. Contribute to the operation of the College library
                                             a. Support the role of the Learning Services Co-ordinator in monitoring,
                                                  maintaining and developing the physical environment of the library
                                             b. Provide support in managing library stock
                                             c. Contribute to the maintenance and updating of library displays and notices
