1824 East Main houses one of the upstates most
talented photographers, Carri Bass. Having a passion for
photography, she and her husband Charlie moved to this
area in 1988. After moving to Spartanburg, Carri worked
at Wofford College. While there, she began perfecting her
freelance photography. At that time, she had no idea where
this would lead her.
Several years later in 1992 Carri’s first son was
born. Little David was lucky in his early years. He was
allowed to go to work with his mother. This arrangement
seemed to work well for about two years; however, as we all

a small studio in Hillcrest. This made her schedule more
flexible, and she was still able to bring David to work with
her. This small studio opened many doors for Carri. She
focused on weddings and portraits, which quickly lead to
growth. Some say that “word of mouth” is one of the most
effective forms of advertising. In Carri’s case the saying

knew her quality of work.
Realizing that she needed more space, Carri
purchased the property at 1824 East Main Street. It was
1999 when the dilapidated house began its transformation
into Carri Bass Photography Studio. This once lonely house
finally found a family. Carri, along with husband Charlie,
worked diligently to restore this beautiful property. “The
passion for my work is fed by the passion for my family. No
