MARLETTE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
April 6, 2011 Minutes
The Marlette Area Chamber of Commerce meeting was called to order by
President Virginia Labelle.
Members Present: Virginia Labelle, Mike Wettstein, Linda Donley, Sara Redman,
Angela Sloan, Sarah Kady, Tricia Muxlow, Linda Donley, Amy Farnum, Meredith
Lyons, April Burrell, Kendra Jickling, John Frazier, Pat Wilson, Scott Trepkowski,
Mark Blatt and Mike Hollenbeck.
It was moved by Kendra Jickling and supported by Amy Farnum to approve the
February 2, 2011 minutes as presented.
Treasurers Report: Sarah Kady presented the Treasurer‟s report. The balances are
Savings Account $ 5,828.26
Chamber Bucks $ 2,069.98
Certificate of Deposit $ 2,853.80
Sarah Kady reported that to date the Chamber has collected $3,535.00 in dues.
Sarah Kady will bring a budget breakdown of the County Fair Days account to the
monthly Chamber meetings.
It was moved by Linda Donley and seconded by Pat Wilson to approve the
Treasurers report as presented.
2011 Spring Carnival: The Spring Carnival is scheduled for Saturday, April 16, 2011
from 11:00 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. The event will consist of
Children's Easter Egg Hunt, Games and Prizes, Cookie Decorating, Inflatable Fun,
Clown Entertainment, DJ with Kids Songs, Face Painting, Food Vendors, Easter
Egg Cake Walk, Grand Prize Drawing and “Duzie” will be the kid‟s entertainment.
John Scott will be there to take pictures of kid‟s with the Easter Bunny. If you
would like to participate please contact Linda Donley at Donley Realty.
Linda Donley stated that they are concerned about the weather and will have the
elementary school lined up as a back up.
Sarah Kady stated that she will have DPW and the Police Department on board to
make sure the electrical outlets are on, barricades are out, and streets are blocked
Chamber After Hours Open House: The Chambers “After Hours Open House”
was well received. There were approximately 25 to 30 individuals present and we
had at least one new business join the Chamber. The open house had excellent
food, great music and speakers. The next (quarterly) After Hours event will be
hosted by Meredith Lyons at Liebler Insurance.
Quarterly after that we will rotate businesses that are willing to host the event and
promote their business. The After Hours events can be done by more than one
business. It is strongly suggested that those who attend bring a guest who may be
interested in joining the Chamber.
United Hospice Walk: Mike Hollenbeck reported on the United Hospice Walk.
The event will raise funds for United Hospice Service. It is scheduled for Saturday
May 14, 2011 at the Marlette Walking Trail. Registration is at 8:30 am and the
walk will go from 9 am -11am. The walk will start at 3197 Sterling Street and the
Closing ceremony will be at the track at 11:15 A.M.
Meredith Lyons stated that Liebler Insurance Agency has a new digital sign in front
of there business and are willing to place event/community information on the
Tricia Muxlow-Yaroch was introduced to the Chamber. She has a new business in
town “Muxlow Surveying & Engineering”.
Marlette Country Fair Days: John Frazier, Pat Wilson and Mike Hollenbeck gave
an update on Country Fair Days. The committee will soon be raising funds for the
fireworks. The Country Fair Committee and the Knights of Columbus will be
hosting a Fish Fry/Chicken dinner to raise funds for Country Fair Days on Friday,
May 6, 2011 from 4:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. The committee is looking for
volunteers to help.
In 2012, it will be the 150th Anniversary of the City of Marlette, the 125th
Anniversary of Marlette High School, and the 175th Anniversary of the State of
Michigan. The Country Fair Committee would like to see the 2012 event be a big
celebration. The committee will work together with the Alumni committee and
anyone willing to volunteer to help with the “2012 Celebration”. It does not look
like there will be a hospitality tent this year. Attached is the tentative 2011
