STEVE CROW – EGYPTIAN MAU SHOW – 3rd April ‘10

Many thanks to Sean and Sue for the invitation to judge, I had a great day meeting lots
of lovely Maus; grateful thanks also go to Sandra Woodley who travelled up to steward
for me, I hope you found it an interesting and enjoyed the day.

A C Grand Champion Egyptian Mau, Female: Three girls entered. GCC. KNIGHT’S
CH MAOLOGY SERENITY. Silver. 8/4/08. Attractive girl mature and of good overall
type. Long slender body is nicely balanced and of very good weight and substance,
elegant and well muscled and feeling firm with good under-lying foreign boning; gently
rounded chest and slender elegant well shaped legs ending in neat rounded paws in
proportion. Head forms moderate wedge with gently rounded contours, good width to
cheeks, breadth to gently rounded muzzle and uniform width to nose. Well spaced
medium size ears are broad at the base and of good shape, cupped forward. Large
lustrous rounded almond shaped eyes are set wide apart under level brows to give
typical “worried expression”, colour is warm gooseberry green. Very gentle curve to
brow, very slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is level and of fairly good depth. Fine
medium length coat is quite dense, could be better, but has some resilience, smooth
and silky in texture and shown in superb condition with a glossy shine. Well defined
pattern of many small black spots is evenly distributed and contrasts well against a
sparkling silver agouti ground, slightly solid on lower spine, triple necklace, two well
broken, one just broken, bars and spots on legs, broken rings on tail. Very attractive
facial markings with “M” and complex scarab on forehead and lines over head breaking
into rows of tiny spots, mascara and spectacles and well defined pencilling on cheeks.
Tail tapers evenly to rounded tip, length just balances. Feisty girl, confident and with
plenty to say for herself. Res GCC. ANDERSON-KEEBLE’S CH NEWKINGDOM AZIZ.
Silver. 22/4/08. Attractive young lady, nicely matured and of good overall type.
Slender body is of medium size and very good weight, firm and well muscled to the
touch with elegant well shaped limbs and neat rounded paws in proportion. Head forms
modified wedge with gently rounded contours, good width to cheeks and breadth to
gently rounded muzzle; nose is of uniform width. Well spaced slight large ears are
broad at the base and of good shape, cupped slightly forward. Large lustrous warm
                                               2

gooseberry green eyes are shaped like well rounded almonds and set wide apart under
level brows, she can hold her eyes a little full and rounded at times, but when she is
settled and relaxed her expression is typically “worried”. Very gently rounded brow,
slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is just level and of fairly good depth. Fine close
lying coat is of medium length, quite dense with some resilience, texture is smooth and
silky. Defined pattern of dark charcoal grey spots is evenly distributed and contrast
against a clear silver agouti ground, slightly solid on the lower back, one or two linked
spots near shoulders, double necklace, one well broken the other just broken, bars and
spots on legs. Attractive facial markings with “M” and scarab, eyes show good eye-line
and are surrounded by light spectacles, fairly faint pencilling on face; shown in super
condition with a gleaming sheen. Tail tapers evenly to rounded tip and is a fraction
short to balances. Alert, confident girl, a little upset out and swore at other cats, calm
and much more settled in her pen.

Champion Egyptian Mau Smoke Adult, Female: One cat entered. 1CC & BOB.
HIGGINS & KENNEDY’S MESKHENET MIYOKO. 10/9/08. Very attractive young lady,
well developed for nineteen months and of good overall type, although with a slightly
adolescent appearance at present, needing time to fully mature and “finish”. Slender
elegant body is balanced and of very good weight and substance, feeling firm and well
muscled with gently rounded chest and slender elegant well shaped legs ending in neat
rounded paws in proportion. Head shows modified wedge with gently rounded
contours, good width to cheeks and muzzle and uniform width to nose. Ear are of
medium size, broad at the base, cupped forward and of good shape, spaced well apart
to continue the line of the wedge. Large lustrous eyes are shaped like rounded
almonds and set wide apart under straight brows to give typical “worried” expression;
colour is a clear gooseberry green when viewed in daylight from hall widows. Very
gentle curve to brow, slight dip in profile line to nose, nose leather falls away at very tip,
chin is just level and of fairly good depth. Fine medium length coat lies very close and
has a lovely silky smooth texture, in super condition with a glossy shine. Mantle of
black tips over sparkling silver base, showing good definition to ghost spotted pattern,
with ghost bars on legs and ghost rings on tail; typical speckled effect on face with
                                               3

”clown” marks surrounding eyes. Tail is of good shape tapering to finer tip; length is a
touch short to balance. Shy and slightly nervous out on the table, calmer and talkative
back in her bed, an affectionate, sweet natured girl, I look forward to seeing her again.

Egyptian Mau Bronze Kitten, Male: One kitten entered. 1.& BOB. HUNT’S
BASTETRA GANYMEDE. 9/10/09. Handsome young man, well grown for almost six
months and of quite pleasing type. Long slender is of good size and weight, feeling firm
and well muscled with sturdy but elegant boning; slender well shaped limbs end in
compact rounded paws in proportion. Head shows medium wedge, I would like just a
little more width to cheeks and perhaps a touch more strength and breadth to his
muzzle which may improve as he matures and fills out, showing a slight teething pinch
today which did not help. Medium large broad based ears are cupped forward slightly
and of good shape, spaced well apart. Expressive large rounded almond shaped eyes
are set wide apart under level brows; colour is gooseberry green with a distinct amber
cast at present. Very slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is level and of fairly good
depth. Coat is of medium length, fine and lies close to the body, just a little soft and
“kittenish” in texture, shown in very good condition with a healthy sheen. Dark seal
brown spots are large and evenly distributed, some linked spots on both sides of the
body, but may break and separate as he grows; spine line is breaking up nicely, pattern
contrasts against a warm pale golden brown agouti ground which lacks desired rich
bright copper tone on body, better on chest and under-parts. Bars and spots on legs,
broken rings on tail, heavy necklace is only just broken, attractive facial markings with
distinct “M” and scarab. Tail is of good shape and balances well. Lively talkative boy,
confident, alert and very friendly.

Egyptian Mau Silver Neuter. Male: Two boys entered, plus one for Best of Breed
only. 1PC. NETTLE’S NEWKINGDOM JULIUS. 4/9/06. Handsome boy, looking
mature, balanced and nicely finished and showing good overall type. Long slender well
filled body is firm and muscular, feeling heavy and substantial with sturdy yet elegant
under-lying boning, gently rounded chest and elegant well shaped limbs end in compact
rounded paws in proportion. Head forms modified wedge with gently rounded contours,
                                               4

good width to cheeks and breadth to muzzle, uniform width to nose. Well spaced
medium large ears are broad at the base and of good shape, cupped slightly forward.
Large lustrous pale gooseberry green eyes are shaped like rounded almonds and set
wide apart under straight brows to give typical “worried” expression. Very gentle curve
to brow, slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is level and of fairly good depth. Coat is
fine and medium length, close lying and dense with quite good resilience, but feeling
just a little dry and even coarse on the lower back, good silky texture elsewhere and in
super condition with a gleaming sheen. Pattern of large well spaced medium grey spots
is evenly distributed and contrasts against clear silver agouti ground, spine line breaking
up, double necklace is broken, bars and spots on legs and rings on tail. “M” and
complex scarab on forehead, attractive mascara effect to eyes surrounded by light
spectacles, pencilling on cheeks. Tail tapers evenly to finer rounded tip and is just a
fraction short to balance. Calm, relaxed and very good natured. 2. STANGER’S
MAUOLOGY JASPER. 24/2/09. Mature handsome lad of very pleasing type, but rather
agitated today and not showing himself to advantage. Long slender body is firm, heavy
and muscular, of very good substance with strong foreign boning, gently rounded chest
and slender shapely legs ending in compact rounded paws in proportion. Head shows
modified wedge with gently rounded contours, good width to cheeks, but muzzle could
be a touch fuller and stronger for perfection, uniform width to nose. Medium size broad
based ears are of good shape, well spaced and cupped forward when I did eventually
get him to settle, but very mobile today – he tended to hold them just a little high. Large
expressive eyes are shaped like rounded almonds and set wide apart under level
brows; colour is gooseberry green with a slight yellow cast still visible at present. Brow
shows gentle curve, slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is just level and of fairly good
depth. Coat is fine and lies close to the body, density is developing and it is beginning
to feel quite resilient, smooth and silky to the touch and in very good condition with a
glossy shine. Attractive well defined pattern made up of many small dark charcoal grey
spots is evenly distributed and contrasts well against sparkling silver agouti ground;
necklace is just broken, well broken spine-line, bars and spots on legs and rings on tail.
“M” and complex scarab on forehead, eye-liner effect to eyes surrounded by light
                                              5

spectacles, defined pencilling on face. Tail is of good shape and a little short to
balance. Very noisy and uptight today, he was not at all happy out of his pen and
obviously feeling insecure and “up on his toes”. Not difficult to handle, but not showing
himself well. BOB to ANDERSON-KEEBLE’S GR PR SANTILLO FEROMESES
MERCURY. 10/7/07. Slender body is very well filled, heavy and of good substance but
just a little too plump to be truly well balanced, feeling firm and muscular with strong yet
elegant underlying foreign boning, gently rounded chest and slender shapely legs
ending in compact rounded paws in proportion. Head shows balanced medium wedge
with good breadth to gently rounded muzzle and uniform width to nose. Ears of medium
size are broad at the base and of good shape, cupped forward and spaced well apart to
continue the line of the wedge. Large lustrous rounded almond shaped eyes are set
well apart under level brows to give lovely “worried” expression; colour is warm
gooseberry green. Very gentle curve to brow, slight dip in profile line to nose, chin is
level and of fairly good depth. Coat is of medium length, fine, dense and resilient with a
silky smooth texture, in beautiful condition and displaying a glossy shine. Pattern of well
spaced dark charcoal grey spots is evenly distributed and contrast against clear
sparkling silver ground, one or two linked spots near shoulders, spine-line is a little solid
on lower back, double necklace, one just broken the other well broken, broken bracelets
and spots on legs and broken rings on tail; “M” and complex scarab on forehead,
attractive mascara effect to eyes with light spectacles surrounding, pencilling on face.
Tail is slightly thick at the base and tapers evenly to finer rounded tip; length is just short
to balance rather full body. A strong masculine boy with a super expression, calm,
confident and relaxed and took it all in his stride.

Egyptian Mau Silver Neuter, Female: One girl entered, plus one to be considered for
Best of Breed only. 1PC. CODD’S STARSHADOW SELKIS. 1/11/03. Mature
attractive girl of good overall type, but just beginning to look slightly unbalanced. Heavy
well filled body is tending a little towards plumpness, solid and muscular with good
elegant underlying foreign boning, gently rounded chest and slender elegant well
shaped legs ending in neat rounded paws in proportion. Head shows modified wedge
with gently rounded contours, good width to cheeks and breadth to gently rounded
                                              6

muzzle, nose is of uniform width. Well spaced medium ears are broad at the base and
of good shape and cupped slightly forward. Large lustrous gooseberry green eyes are
shaped like rounded almonds and set wide apart under straight brows to give typical
expression, just the hint of a yellow cast visible. Very slight curve to brow, slight dip in
profile line to nose, chin is level and of quite good depth. Fine close dense coat is of
medium length and feels smooth and silky and quite resilient, in superb condition with a
gleaming shine. Defined pattern of medium grey spots is evenly distributed and
contrasts against sparkling silver agouti ground, spine line is quite well broken, well
broken necklace, bars and spots on legs and rings on tail; “M” and complex scarab on
forehead, very attractive facial markings with subtle pencilling on cheeks. Tail tapers
evenly to finer rounded tip, length almost balances (it would balance if she lost a few
pounds!). Calm, very sweet natured and affectionate girl who showed herself to
advantage.

plus one to be considered for Best of Breed only. 1MC. FORD’S BORIS AGRIPPA.
