Connaught Hotel’s Bradley Davis scoops inaugural
       Concierge of the Year Award

With the discretion of James Bond, the courtesy of a royal courtier, the speed
of an Olympic athlete and an ability to pull more strings than a harpist,
Bradley Davis, head concierge at London’s Connaught Hotel, has been voted
the Concierge of the Year 2002.

Bradley beat off stiff competition from hundreds of other members of the
Society of the Golden Keys, the concierge industry’s members association, to
claim the number one spot following a written entry and undercover visit from
the judging panel.

The awards were created by, the world’s leading online travel
agent who offer a choice of 80,000 properties worldwide and fill more hotel
rooms than any other travel agent. The awards were developed to
acknowledge the outstanding service concierges provide to hotel guests.
They are a first for the UK and come during the society’s Golden Jubilee year.

Bradley caught the judges’ attention with examples of outstanding practice
and an ability to perform set tasks during the covert visit to an extremely high
degree of standard. These included:
 Locating spare parts for a South American guest’s 1950’s Ferrari
 Securing prime seats at the West End’s sold-out “My Fair Lady” show
    within minutes
 Effortlessly performing tasks for VIPs such as Jack Nicholson, Ralph
Lauren and senior members of the Royal family
 Being first port of call for guests in a traffic accident (even before Police,
    Ambulance or RAC)
 An astounding, off the cuff knowledge of what local events are taking
    place, where and when
 Offering the persona of a willing friend rather than a cool hotel employee

Bradley, from Dulwich, south London, has been in the concierge industry for
almost 20 years, starting out as a 16 year-old porter at Duke’s Hotel in
London. He only became a porter after being told he was too young to enlist
in for the Royal Marines and needed a job to fill-in time, but soon grew to love
the job.

Other winners at the glittering awards ceremony held at the Grosvenor House
Hotel were:
Expedia Lifetime Achievement Award for services to the Concierge
Mr Dennis Purcell, Sheraton Towers Hotel, London
Expedia Concierge of the Year for Northern Britain:
Joseph Winders, The Scotsman Hotel, Edinburgh

Neil Cowen, Pennyhill Park and Country Club, Surrey
Expedia Commendations for Excellence in the Concierge Industry:
Rodd Atkinson – Ashdown Park Hotel and Country Club, East Sussex
Kevin Sweeney, Tylney Hall Hotel, Hampshire
George Murray, Four Seasons Hotel, London

Commenting on his achievement, Bradley said: “It’s a fantastic honour to
receive this award from Expedia, and a complete surprise. I would like to
share it with my concierge team at the Connaught as they are the backbone
of any concierge desk. Being of assistance to the guests and helping their
stay more pleasurable gives me an enormous amount of satisfaction and
something which I wouldn’t change for the world.”
Commenting for, Dermot Halpin, Managing Director, said:
“The level of service shown by Bradley was truly amazing, guests at his hotel
really are looked after exceptionally well. Expedia share the same objectives

enjoyable as possible, we have great pride in rewarding the best in the
industry for their excellence.”

Commenting for the Society of the Golden Keys, Francis Spiteri, President,
said: “There really is no more worthy a winner than Bradley. His commitment
to his guests, duties and the industry is an example to us all. The Society is
very proud to have him installed as the first Expedia Concierge of the Year
during our Golden Jubilee.”
