Introduction

Pamplona is the capital of Navarra, a region located in the
north of Spain bordering on France. In the Middle Ages,
Navarra was important as a crossing point for highways and
the pilgrimage routes of the Camino de Santiago (The Way
of Saint James). In addition to its historic importance,
Navarra is especially rich in natural attractions. Though only
10,400 square kilometers, Navarra is characterized by three
distinct climatological zones, which lead to a variety of
natural settings. More information:

9. Health cover
If you are a citizen of a member country of the European Economic Area or
Switzerland, and entitled to coverage under the social security system of your
country, then you must have the European Health Insurance Card, which can be
obtained from the public health authorities of your home country. This form entitles
you to the necessary health coverage in Spain. Should you need free health coverage
in Barcelona, you must go to your nearest health clinic (Centre d'Assistència Primària-
CAP) and present your European Health Insurance Card and personal identification.

If you are a citizen of a country outside the European Economic Area or
Switzerland, then you must find out whether there exists a mutual health provision
agreement between the Social Security system of your country and Spain (this is the
case of a number of Latin American countries). If such an agreement exists, you can
obtain a document from the relevant authorities in your country entitling you to free
medical coverage in Spain.

If you do not fall into any of the above categories, then prior to departure, you must
take out private medical insurance to cover the duration of your stay at UPNA.

10. Cost of living
Spain’s currency is the EURO

Living costs are not really expensive and there are ways to participate in cultural life
and sports thanks to the student’s organisations.

We advise students to budget around 800-1000 Euro p/month.

Figures may vary according to the student’s personal lifestyle.

Aproximate costs for a period of one month in EURO:

Accommodation: 250 to 400 Meals: 250 to 350

Transportation: 50 to 80 (many students have a bicycle)

Books and course material: 150 -to 250 (for one year)

Entertainment: 150- to 250
