As a Consultant, my responsibilities include diagnosis, medical and surgical
management of oculoplastic disorders as well as general ward work. Pre-
operative assessment, surgical management and post-operative follow up
of all patients underwent refractive surgery. Medical student sub-
coordinator as well as member of the Ophthalmology Resident Teaching
Program staff at King Saud University; I’m sharing in their educational
program activities. I am regularly attending subspecialty courses at King
Khalid Eye Specialist Hospital in Riyadh.

As an Ophthalmologist; I was responsible for diagnosis and management
of general ophthalmic condition and referring cases in need for tertiary level
of hospital care. Moreover, I attended the preparatory courses for FRCS
exam, which was held in Magrabi Eye & Ear Hospital, Jeddah. During this
time, I cleared International Council of Ophthalmology exam part1 as well
as final FRCS (Glasg.) exam in ophthalmology, which was held in Glasgow
on Nov. 2001.

As a general Ophthalmologist in the private sector dealing with
ophthalmologic diseases as well as surgical procedure for management of
these conditions and ward work.

Resident in a 1,100 bed general hospital (considered as the tertiary hospital
serving population of Upper Egypt), which is a part of Assuit University
Hospitals. The residency program included Rota throughout different
subspecialties in Ophthalmology in a period of at least 36 months. During
first 6 months, only as observer and assistant surgeon. Later on my
responsibilities progressively increased which typically involved an
admission intake of 64 admissions over a 24-houre period, diagnosis,
medical and surgical management of ophthalmic diseases including
different types of trauma especially during on-call duty time and uses of
laser in anterior and posterior segments disorders. During this period, I
cleared M.Sc. exams in Ophthalmology (part1 & 2). In addition, I was
involved in Student Educational Program, case presentations (Behcet
disease, Idiopathic Orbital Inflammatory Disease, AION, 3rd n. palsy,
intraocular F.B. and post-operative endophthalmities) and regularly
attending the ophthalmology department seminar every Monday.
March 1994 –Feb. 1995 PRE-REGISTERATION HOUSE OFFICER

Pre-Registration House Officer in district general hospital rotating through
General Medicine, General Surgery, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Pediatrics
and Anesthesia & Emergency. Moreover, I spent two months in
Ophthalmology Department. House officers were expected to carry out a
large number of clinical procedures and assumed a high level of
Oculoplastic surgery: Excellent experience in surgical management of all lid
disorders (including cosmetic surgeries). Excellent experience in performing lacrimal system and
anterior orbital procedures including orbital fractures. Excellent experience in surgical
management of mid and posterior orbital lesions.
Cataract surgery: Excellent experience in performing ECCE + PCIOL, 2ry
IOL implantation, Triple procedure, Irrigation aspiration, Lensectomy, Anterior vitrectomy and
ICCE when indicated. Good experience in phacoemulsification.
Glaucoma surgery: Excellent experience in performing Trabeculectomy with or
without mitomycin C and Peripheral iridectomy. Reasonable experience in Goniotomy,
Trabeculotomy and Artificial implant.
Strabismus surgery: Excellent experience in performing recti muscles
weakening or strengthening procedures. Fair experience in inferior oblique surgery procedures.
Retinal detachment surgery: Fair experience in performing conventional retinal
Trauma: Excellent experience in performing surgical repair of
corneal, corneo-scleral and scleral wounds as well as managing traumatic cataract, vitreous loss,
anteriorly located F.B., and hyphaema. Also managing lid lacerations with or without canalicular
tear and anteriorly located interaorbital F.B.
Laser: Excellent experience in performing Eximer laser refractive
surgery (including LASIK). Excellent experience in performing Nd: YAG laser posterior
capsulotomy, peripheral iridotomy and Argon laser suture lysis. Fair experience in Argon laser
Auxiliary diagnostic tools: Good experience in performing ocular ultrasonography
(both diagnostic B-scan as well as A-scan), handling of fundus camera and visual field.
Moreover, I have excellent experience in handling Optical Coherent Tomography (OCT 3).
RESEARCH, AUDIT & TEACHING: -
The title of my thesis to award M.Sc. degree in Ophthalmology was “Correlation
between the degree of myopia and pathological changes of the eye”. I gave a hand in
research work concerned with the corneal ulcer (incidence and management) in
Assuit university hospitals.
