                LOCATION: Kandahar, AFGHANISTAN
                  JOB TITLE: System Administrator
                           GRADE: ICC IIA

                              The benefit package includes:
               - € 5,173.00 monthly salary, tax-free in the host country.
                          - € 78.90 per day spent in the Theatre
           (€ 45.09 Hazard allowance + € 33.81 austere living allowance).
                    - Installation allowance equal to one-month salary
       (50% to be reimbursed if not completing two consecutive years of service).

                                PART II – CE DUTIES

Post Context:

This post is in direct support of Kandahar Commander (COMKAF) and falls within the
Information Systems (IS) section in the Kandahar Airfield (KAF) Signal Support
Group (KSSG). This post is responsible for the 2nd and 3rd line support of NATO
Unclassified, NATO Secret and ISAF Secret CIS Systems and Services. Post-holder
will have responsibility for administering network systems configurations, including
domain controllers, electronic mail servers, file servers and related systems and
processes in a service management Information Technology Infrastructure Library
(ITIL) based environment. Post-holder will also have responsibility for
implementation and operation of service management processes (ITIL).

Reports to: Senior Systems Manager

Principal Duties:

Principally responsible for the management of all ISAF/NATO servers in the KAF
campus and ensuring maximum availability and performance of NATO information

Maintains the Active Directory Organizational Unit (ADOU) and respective objects of
which the KSSG team is responsible for.
Database administration
Manages, supports and maintains mail services, gateway, and internet proxies
Produces Server configuration reports
Maintains data integrity and availability by ensuring backups are completed and data
restored where necessary.
Maintains servers, applies patches and upgrades as directed by Supreme
Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE)
Maintains and controls Server storage devices
Supports installation, operation and maintenance of NATO/ISAF Functional Area
Services in close cooperation with Functional Area Services (FAS) managers
Provides 2nd / 3rd level support to the service desk for server related issues
completes tasking assigned thru the ticketing system
Updates assigned tickets in detail with pertinent information
Logs all incidents in the pertinent ticketing system
Updates with detail information and follows up assigned tickets until completion
Creates and updates operation Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as required
Ensure Server Rooms meet operational conditions and request maintenance as
Collect and analyze statistics for capacity planning
Follows standard operating procedures for automated data processes (e.g. server
management, system administration tasks)
Produces security reports on violations and maintains historical records of both
frequent and uncommon violations in close cooperation with the Information Security
Documenting the configuration of the systems
System performance tuning and disaster recovery planning
Shift work

D. Additional Duties:

To perform other related duties as required.
May be required to travel for official duty within and outside ISAF Joint Operational

                            PART III - QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Qualifications:

   Professional / Experience:
   At least 3 years experience working as a Systems Administrator at enterprise
   Solid experience supporting and troubleshooting Server Operating System and
   Experience with monitoring and troubleshooting tools
   Solid experience with Microsoft Exchange server 2003
   Experience with Symantec Backup Exec Software and Backup Policies
   Experience with Removable Media Security software such as PointSec

   Experience with Window Server Update Services (WSUS), ePolicy Orchestrator
   (ePO), McAfee server and workstation products
   Networking principles and troubleshooting experience
   Good communication skills
   Customer service oriented
   Previous experience of a military Computer Information Systems (CIS)
   environment preferred
   Previous experience in a NATO military body preferred
   Experience in the CIS Service Desk support arena
   Experience in the global telecommunications arena is an advantage
   ITIL experience highly desirable

   Education / Training:

   MCSE certification as a minimum requirement
   Exchange Server 2003 training
   A+ certification desirable
   Network + certification desirable
   Knowledge of imaging deployment software
   Previous experience with MS SharePoint Services Desirable
   Driving License

   Security Clearance:

   NATO Secret Security Clearance Required
   Only persons that have or can obtain a NATO recognised Security clearance
   certificate should apply for this position

  Education / Training:

  Experience with NetApp Network Attached Storage (NAS)/Storage Area Network
  (SAN) appliances
  Experience working in a VMware environment
  A higher secondary education and completed intermediate vocational training
  leading to a formal technical or professional certification with 2 years function
  related experience or a secondary education and completed intermediate
  vocational training leading to a professional qualification or professional
  accreditation with 3 years post related experience.


  Personal Skills and Attributes:

  The candidate will be able to demonstrate strong administrative skills. They must
  have a good understanding of producing useful management information and how
  this information should flow through an organisation.
  The candidate should be a mature highly motivated, consequently they must
  possess good presentational skills and interpersonal skills as they will be dealing
  with personnel at all levels of the organisation. Ideally the candidate will also bring
  a wealth of best practice with them from previous work.
  The candidate should be able to demonstrate confidence and leadership and
  should be a proactive person.
  The candidate must have a comprehensive grasp of the military culture.

  Managerial Responsibilities:

  Time and resource management.
  The candidate is responsible to effectively manage his/her time and resources
  needed in the execution of his/her duties in order to bring all assigned tasks to

  Professional Contacts:

  The candidate will be required to establish and maintain good working relations
  with both military and civilian personnel in and outside of KAF.

  The candidate will be expected to drive the interests of the customer areas in the
  delivery of capability.

   Work Environment:

   Fast-paced, multinational, multicultural evironment.
   Living conditions in Kandahar are deemed austere, hazardous and
   accommodation is arranged on the military compound.


Only applications from candidates meeting essential requirements and possessing
valid certificates/ diplomas/security clearance will be taken into consideration.
If, following the interview stage, applicants are invited for further consideration; they
will be required to be proactive in providing the pre-employment documents. These
include a full medical pack with supporting reports and signed off by a doctor. In
addition, confirmation is required that the candidate has been issued/can obtain a
valid NATO security clearance; this can take some time and should therefore be
initiated upon being selected for further consideration.

Initial 12 month contract with possible extensions

Because of the dynamic environment, ISAF Crisis Establishment posts are
under regular review and therefore job contents, including contract duration
and contractual grade may change during the contractual period.
