                                     Camp Information



Come join the Marlins Competitive Swim Camp. Your athlete will experience guest coaches,
two swim sessions per day, appearances by a sports nutritionist, sports psychology specialist,
flexibility/stretching instructor, a CPT certified strength instructor and individual fitness
assessments. The weekend following the camp will be a two day heats/finals swim meet for
your swimmer to try out all the new tricks, skills and see their improvement. Enhance the
summer swimming experience and take your child’s athletic experience to the next level.


Camp Focus:
This competitive swim camp is a training camp which will involve some high intensity sessions.
The coaches will be focusing on all technical aspects of the four competitive strokes including
starts and turns.

Camp Details

When:         Monday, July 4—Friday, July 8, 2011
Ages: 8–18 years
This camp requires that all swimmers are current competitive swimmers either with a Winter
or Summer swimming program.


Times: Ages 11 and under 8am–4pm
       Two groups: 20 swimmers/group
       Developmental – Focus – technical development
              Recommended: 1st or 2nd year competitive swimmers
       Training – Focus – Training and Technical development
              Recommended: Older swimmers in this age category with training experience
              (3-4 years)
        Ages 12 and over 7am-5pm


Price: $300.00/swimmer
Camp long sleeve tech shirt provided with registration by deadline. Please be sure to mark
your athlete’s size on the registration form.



Registration Details


Registration Opens: Sunday, March 20, 2011 @ 8am
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, June 15, 2011
Must be registered by May 30th to receive a camp t-shirt.
Registration is capped at 40 athletes per age grouping

Meet our Guest Coaches:

Head Coach: Rylan Kufara
Rylan Kafara has been involved with coaching competitive swimming since he was 15. He has
coached all ages and abilities from parent and tot to masters, from athletes learning how to swim
to competing at the Olympic Games. Heavily involved with the sport in Alberta, he has also
spent time coaching as far away as Australia. A competitive swimmer himself, Rylan swam for
the Red Deer Catalina Swim Club for 10 years before competing for the University of Alberta
Golden Bears from 2002-2006.

Head Coach: Clint Stevens

I was a competitive swimmer for over 20 years (involved at some level for 30 years) having
competed at a very high level with top rankings nationally and internationally. Throughout my
career, I held over 50+ provincial and national records and has represented teams at all levels of
competition.

I am now embarking on some self study courses to obtain my MPT (Master Personal Trainer)
Certification through NESTA (National Exercise & Sports Trainers Association) focusing my
attention on youth development in sport and human performance.

All camp activities will take place at the Michener Aquatic Centre, Gym or surrounding
grounds.

Central ASDC have provided the following resources to further our athlete’s experience.

CPT Certified Strength Instructor
The format of ASDCC's strength and conditioning program takes an "educational" approach, and
allows each athlete to prepare a personal training program that will meet the demands of his/her
activity (position specific) and give them the knowledge and skills to complete their own program.
Come prepared to learn and to train hard!

Danielle received her Masters in Sport Psychology from the University of Alberta in 2008 and has
been a sport psychology consultant/mental skills trainer since 2006. Danielle's focus in school was
on the Long Term Athlete Development Plan and how it was integrated into sport organizations.
She is also interested in the relationship between sports and positive youth development as well as

helping athletes to succeed in an area that they are passionate about. Danielle embraces the
opportunity to be able to work with athletes and sport teams who are dedicated to enhancing their
abilities and seeing just how far they can go.



Required Equipment:
Two swim suits, goggles, fins. flutterboard(optional), pull buoy(optional),
water bottle, athletic running shoes, workout wear, yoga mat (optional), 1 inch binder.



Social Activities:
There will be social activities at night for the athletes to mingle and socialize with their training
groups. Events to be confirmed.

Description:
On site amenities include 126 full and semi-serviced sites, playground, laundry facilities, washrooms,
showers and sewage disposal station. Recreation activities include hiking/biking trails, playgrounds and
horseshoe pits. The Lion's Campground is located next to the Red Deer River and is within minutes of
grocery stores, service stations and golf courses. Maximum length of stay is 14 days. Lion's Campground
