Prayer for Vocations O loving and gracious God, Father of all, you bless your people in every time and season and provide for their needs through your providential care. Your Church is continually in need of priests, sisters, brothers and deacons to offer themselves in the service of the gospel by lives of dedicated love. Open the hearts of your sons and daughters to listen to your call in their lives. Give them the gift of understanding to discern your invitation to serve you and your Church. Give them the gift of courage to follow your call. May they have the spirit of young Samuel who found fulfillment in his life when he said to you, "Speak Lord, for your servant is listening." We ask this through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen. Taken from a compendium of Prayers for Vocations collected by the USCCB from the dioceses: www.foryourvocation.org Fr. John Guiney Speaks to Serrans Fr. John Guiney, SMA (Society of African Missions), now serving Sacred Heart Parish in Lombard, joined the Serra Club of DuPage County for its monthly Mass and meeting on April 25th. He spoke about his twenty years working among the lepers in Africa; and Father also shared his thoughts on vocations and the priesthood, the need to serve and be charitable to the poor, and his Irish heritage. While Serrans and guests enjoyed his wonderful sense of humor, Father’s evident enthusiasm and devotion for the priesthood was the most inspirational. YEAR of the EUCHARIST April 1, 2010 – June 26, 2011 When did you last attend Eucharistic Adoration? Do you ever stop by church and visit our Lord in the tabernacle? To be here before you, Lord, that’s all. To shut the eyes of my body, to shut the eyes of my soul and be still and silent; to expose myself to you who are here, exposed to me. To be here before you, the Eternal Presence. Michael Quoist Tix4Cause – A Great Way to Sell or Buy Event Tickets and much more! The Serra Club of DuPage County was founded in 1958 and is part of Serra International, recognized by the Holy See as the global lay apostolate for vocations in the Catholic Church. Our objectives are: to foster and promote vocations to the ministerial priesthood in the Catholic Church as a particular vocation to service; to support priests in their sacred ministry; to encourage and affirm vocations to the consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church; and to assist its members in their own lives to recognize and respond to God’s call to holiness in Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit. We carry out our objectives in the Diocese of Joliet through a variety of programs including: the Diocesan Annual Seminarian Send-off, Adopt-a-Priest Pin Program, Vocation Prayer Calendar, annual diocesan Seminarian Poster, and Picture Yourself as a Priest Program. The Serra Club also provides support to the Vocation Office as requested. The Serra News is distributed monthly by the Serra Club of DuPage County.
