                                        Florist
Every student deemed competent in a unit or qualification must meet
industry standards as defined in the course requirements.

Below are some of the duties and tasks Florists may perform:

   design appropriate floral arrangements for clients’ needs according to the
    occasion and the budget
   select flowers and greenery with reference to expected life of the flowers,
    trim and strengthen with wire if necessary
   select flowers and greenery with reference to expected life of the flowers,
    trim and strengthen with wire if necessary
   arrange local deliveries and relay interstate and overseas orders
   decorate public spaces for weddings and other occasions
   take part in management and administration such as working out costs.

Below are some of the particularly demanding essential
requirements of a Florist:

   ability to make precise and coordinated movements of the fingers of both
    hands to grasp, manipulate or assemble very small objects (fine motor
    skills)
   ability to work in a confined space and stand for long periods of time
   ability to come up with unusual or clever ideas (originality)
   ability to match or detect differences between colours, including
    brightness (visual colour discrimination)
   ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented with
    full attention (oral comprehension and active listening)
   ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand
    (oral expression)
   cope with standing, lifting, bending, twisting and reaching.

Personal Abilities

   enjoy artistic and creative activities with artistic ability
   good sense of colour, texture and design
   appreciation of flower varieties
   an appreciation of the importance of discretion and confidentiality
   patience and interpersonal skills.
