Founder of excavating company passes away at 86

St. Louis, MO—September 16, 2006

Sam Budrovich, Sr., founder of Budrovich Excavating and Contracting passed away at
his home on September 16, 2006 at the age of 86. Sam started the excavation and
grading company in 1946, shortly after World War II. After acquiring one of the first
grading tractors for use on the family farm, Sam was hired by friends, neighbors, home
builders and local plumbing contractors to grade yards, excavate basements, and dig
ditches. With the help of his wife Mildred the business was off and running. In 1967,
Sam, with the help of his son, Sam Jr. acquired one of the first large hydraulic cranes and
joined the hoisting industry. Sam is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Rothe (nee
Budrovich) and Sandy Lusk (nee Budrovich). He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and
12 great grandchildren.

The Budrovich Companies specialize in crane rental, site utility excavation, mass &
finish grading, and residential, commercial and industrial land development. Budrovich
employs nearly 150 skilled operators, laborers and teamsters in the St. Louis metropolitan
region, utilizing nearly 90 pieces of excavation & grading equipment and 30 mobile
hydraulic cranes.
