 1 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Hey, Josh.

 2 JOSH: Hey, Chief.

 3 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: What's up?

4 JOSH: You know we talked yesterday,

5 and I know you said about Rodney being in the

6 Guard and all you didn't want to hire him

7 because the weekends off and the two weeks here

8 and all. Is there any way you would

 9 re-consider?

10 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Well, I really

11 can't because it --

12 JOSH: The scheduling and all?

13 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: -- I mean, it

14 really puts that shift in a bind, whichever one

15 he's on, you know. And like I told you, you

16 know, I don't want him to know that because I

17 appreciate what he does but --

18 JOSH: Yes, sir.

19 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: -- but uh, it just

20 -- as far as a law enforcement agency,

21 especially one like ours with few weekends off

22 anyhow, it just -- it puts everybody in a bind

23 on that --

24 JOSH: So it's not him living out of

25 town or anything or, I mean, that's not holding

 1 him back or nothing?

 2 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: No, no.

3 JOSH: If he was -- if he got out of

4 the Guard, you know, down the road --

 5 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah.

6 JOSH: -- would you consider?

 7 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah, yeah.

 8 JOSH: All right.

9 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: I talked to him

10 and, you know, he seems like a good guy.

11 JOSH: He is. He's a --

12 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: You know, I don't

13 -- I'm sure -- and I've got enough sense to

14 realize that if he found that out and brought a

15 suit against us, he'd probably win for not

16 hiring him, you know?

17 JOSH: Yes, sir.

18 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: But uh, I told you

19 that in confidence because I knew you were

20 concerned about hiring him.

21 JOSH: JOSH: Well, I know it --

22 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: And if he knew for

23 sure -- well, it really wouldn't matter. If I

24 knew he wasn't going to be, you know, called

25 up, have to go for a year or so.

1 JOSH: Yeah, he got back a couple of

2 years ago. They went over there for like a

 3 year like Will.

 4 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah.

 5 JOSH: And I don't know if he's coming

6 back or, you know, if he's going back or

 7 whatever they're gonna do. So -

 8 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah.

9 JOSH: Well, I mean, I just, you know

10 he's got a lot of talent. He's a heck of an

11 officer and I hate to pass up an opportunity

12 for us to get someone like that who I know is

13 going to come here and be (unintelligible).

14 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah.

15 JOSH: You know, he's SFST certified.

16 He's an instructor. He -- you know, he's a

17 good, you know a good worker.

18 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: I talked to him

19 last -- last time I talked to him and I told

20 him, I said, man I -- you know, Madison's

21 hiring. I know Ridgeland's hiring. They're

22 both good departments. I'd like to think

23 they're not as good as we are but in the

24 sheriff's department, you know, you just have

25 more room to roam and it's not as confined.
     Case 3:11-cv-00438-CWR -FKB Document 2 Filed 07/20/11 Page 5 of 7 5

1 But I said, just right now, I just can't hire

 2 you right now so.

 3 JOSH: I understand. I just thought

4 I'd, you know, come to for him one more time.

 5 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah.

6 JOSH: That's about the only person I

 7 know --

8 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: If it wasn't for

9 that he'd have done been on, but I just -- and

10 I didn't realize that. I've looked over his

11 resume' two or three times and why I didn't

12 even think about it --

13 JOSH: If I talk to him in the future

14 I may ask him, you know, if he's going to be in

15 there long term or, you know, if he's --

16 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah.

17 JOSH: -- ever going to get out. Just

18 kind of feel him out and see what he says.

19 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah, I sure don't

20 want to -- you know, if I knew for sure he

21 wasn't going to be called back up, that would

22 help --

23 JOSH: Right.

24 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: -- you know, kind

25 of --

1 JOSH: Kind of like Will, you know,

 2 you --

 3 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Yeah, I mean, he's

4 gone, you know, so -

 5 JOSH: Yes, sir.

 6 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: -- and we haven't

7 got anybody else to put on that shift for a

 8 year. A year's a long time, you know.

9 JOSH: Yes, sir. It is.

10 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: But I understand

11 they've got to do what they've got to do and I

12 appreciate them doing it.

13 JOSH: Yes, sir.

14 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: But also I've got

15 a job to do too, you know, so.

16 JOSH: All right. Well, I just

17 thought I'd come and ask again just to see.

18 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: All right.

19 JOSH: All right. You're tag is

20 expired.

21 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Huh?

22 JOSH: You're tag is expired.

23 DEPUTY BELVEDRESI: Oh. Yes, ma'am.
