Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Earth, Wind & Fire headlined Cal State
Fullerton’s Front & Center 2011 while Bette and Wylie Aitken were honored
for their support during the university’s biggest fundraiser that was held at
the Honda Center in Anaheim. Over 900 attended the black tie gala portion
Saturday evening while another 8,000 or so waited outside in the rain to hear
the Grammy-winning group. Front & Center debuted in 1996 with Colin Powell
as their keynoter and every year after, they have had major successes from
performances such as Tony Bennett, Chicago, Natalie Cole, Bill Cosby, The
Doobie Brothers, Stevie Nicks, to name just a few.
In its 16th year, the premier event treated the black tie gala guests to a
champagne reception and silent auction, then a sit down dinner on the floor
of the Honda Center. Items that folks could bid on during the silent auction
ranged from Vegas trips, wine tastings, round trip airline tickets, golf outings,
Angel/Dodgers/Disney/OC Fair, and Knott’s Berry Farm tickets. However, the
big winner was the VIP Event Experience at the Honda Center that fetched
$7,500. With a retail value of $10,000 the lucky winner will receive a VIP
Luxury Box for any 2011 concert or sporting event that includes up to $500 Earth, Wind & Fire original members Verdine White, Philip Bailey and Ralph
