                                                       For Immediate Release

                                                       Date: 8 February 2006

Free child restraint checking session

On the morning of 14 February vehicle child restraint checks will be conducted
from 9.00am to 1.00pm at the Palms Community Centre, Nicholson Road
Subiaco. Qualified child vehicle restraint fitters will staff a „drive through‟ child
restraint checking station to ensure child capsules, baby seats, booster seats and
harnesses are in a safe condition and are installed correctly. Safety checking
takes 15-30 minutes, and ensures your child is protected as fully as possible.

“Transport-related crashes are the leading cause of death and serious injury for
children aged 0 -14 in Western Australia,” said (Ms) Engel Prendergast, Regional
Road Safety Officer with RoadWise. “A correctly fitted vehicle child restraint can
reduce the risk of death or serious injury to your child in a road crash by up to
70%”.

Parents and carers are encouraged to come along to the checking session for
advice on how to fit their seat correctly. Access is from Rokeby Road, just after
the Nicholson Road lights. Enquiries to Kylie at 9237 9260 or Chauncey at 9347
6091.
