      Tires Still Make the Show!
A few years ago, the North American international Auto Show in detroit was the official venue
where many concept cars were unveiled—and all those concept cars had matching tires, in
many cases uniquely designed tires with special tread designs. But with the failing economy in
the U.S., there were less concept cars unveiled at the latest detroit Auto Show; consequently,
there were very few “concept tires” to be seen. However, most spectacular cars and concept
vehicles present at the 2010 show sported either concept tires or some of the most spectacular
      tires on the market.

     Tires for 4x4s
Many people buy a SUV or 4x4 vehicle because it projects an adventurous image. Chances are,
not many of them will actually go off-road, though some might think that such a vehicle needs
an aggressive all-terrain tire to make their ride safer in the snow. Some all-terrain tires do have
the snowflake-in-mountain logo that make them legal in provinces like Quebec where winter
tires are mandatory from december 15 to March 15.

At any rate, 4x4 trucks can fulfil many needs and here are quite a few new or very recent all-
terrain tires that will answer the needs of more than one SUV or 4x4 owner. And most are avail-
able in common sizes that will fit most 4x4 trucks.

Continental Takes Full Control of the

earlier last fall, Continental had announced it would become the
official supplier of the Grand Am Sports Car Challenge, which is why
the racing Mustang Boss 302r displayed the Continental sticker on
its front fenders when it was unveiled. And, at the detroit Auto Show,
while Kia was unveiling its Koup race car, it bore the same decal
but the car was actually shod with Continental racing tires. Among
the many cars competing in the Sports Car Challenge are Mustangs,
Porsches, BMWs and smaller cars like Acuras, Cobalts and, eventually,
Kias. Continental’s new partner now is Hoosier racing tires from in-
diana and it will make the appropriate tires for the series (for which it
did provide tires in the past). According to Bill Caldwell, vice-president,

GRIPPING PERFORMANCE
ON THE TRACK. AND BACK.

Extreme speeds, extraordinary g-forces, punishing braking – the track delivers the
perfect variety of punishment to serve as the ultimate testing ground for new tire
technology. That’s why Yokohama has been a part of the American Le Mans Series
since it began in 1998. It’s why we’ve been selected as the spec tire for the FIA
World Touring Car Championship. And it’s why the 2009 Patrón GT3 Challenge is
running only on Yokohama tires. So when you mount a set of ADVAN Neova® AD08
tires onto your car, know that you’re driving with the most advanced racing
     technologies available today.
