Congratulations on your season so far! Good Luck to West Montgomery, South
Davidson, Central Academy, Dixon, Ayden Grifton and Pamlico in the State Duals this
week. There is another representative from the TriCo/Carolina9 conference that hasn’t
been announced yet, but good luck to you as well! As we draw closer to the playoff
portion of our season, I wanted to share with you a few key points emphasized by the
NCHSAA for regional competition as well as a few things I’m going to need to assure
our East Region runs as smoothly as possible. I am organizing the agenda for the seed
meeting at this time. If you would like to have anything in particular addressed or to be
put on the agenda, please let me know. Coach Little from Chatham Central will be
speaking to us on behalf of the NC Wrestling Coaches Association.
Regional Entries: between now and Sunday February 14, 2010 no later than noon.
RSVP for Seed Meeting: No later than Tuesday 2/16 before 5pm. Resubmit if
you have changes.
Seed Meeting: Wednesday 2/17/10 6:30 Meal 7:00 Meeting @ Rosewood
State Wristband request form: Due to the NCHSAA by Thursday 2/18
We are going to have 5 officials, so during weigh-ins I would like to use 5 scales and
have one scale from each conference there so you will know what to expect in terms of
difference in scales. If a team in your conference has the state recommended Befour
scales that register weight to 1/10th of a pound and has been calibrated this year that
everyone in your conference is comfortable using, please let me know by e-mail so I can
contact the coach about using their scales. We don’t want a scale that is unreliable,
wildly different, or one that registers to the half pound.
I would like one scale from each of these conferences:
Carolina/4Rivers: Rosewood uses a calibrated 1/10th pound Befour scale
Any communication from here out will either be by phone or e-mail. I didn’t realize that
some carriers charge up to 10 cents for incoming texts. I apologize for that. I am putting
everything I feel is relevant to our regional tournament on our website. There you will
find hotel info, forms and downloads, maps, admission costs, and other information will
be posted as we receive it. I will also be posting the seeds and preliminary brackets there
after the seed meeting if you are unable to attend. Have your parents get their
information from the website as well, that way they will not be surprised by procedures,
*** Forfeits vs No Match***
If your wrestlers receive a forfeit and you have been putting in “No Match” please
change these results to “For” in the result type field and make sure it is registered as a
win. If it was a double forfeit, then it was a true “no match”. If you gave up a forfeit to
another wrestler, you also register that as a loss by forfeit to the other kid.
***OPC Regional Entries Due by noon February 14, 2010***
Instructions for filling out the post season OPC report is on the www.rosewoodhigh.com
website and the NCHSAA.org site. When you click the weights and wrestlers you want
to represent your team, a report is available to me. When I check the site, I will update
your status on the website under the coaches section. If you already know your
representatives, you can fill out the form anytime between now and Sunday and it
automatically updates records even if you have a dual or are involved in the State Duals.
I will not do a final export until Sunday at Noon.
The 15 match rule will be handled at my end of the process. You do not have to go in
and compensate for the lack of 15 matches. Based on OPC records and with 24 teams, it
looks like most records above .500 will make it into the field of 16. There are a couple of
weight classes where that may not be the case and some weight classes where all you will
need is to make weight and have a heartbeat. Thanks for those who replied to the RSVP
through the website. That makes things so much easier for planning and accounting. If
you have a change in plans please let me know through that registration site as soon as
you know how many will be attending.
Area hotels are booking up quickly. The closest hotel with inside room entrances to the
school is the Country Inns and Suites. Comfort Inns and Suites has also matched
Country Inn’s prices when you or your parents book mentioning the wrestling regionals.
You will have to fax this form to the NCHSAA before February 18th. That is the
Thursday before Regionals.
There are no entry fees for the tournament and we have to pay everything out of the gate
including over $1300 for officials. We will not allow any outside food or coolers in the
gym by teams or parents. Please work with us on this issue. Most of us bring coolers
and food, but view this policy as a preview of the State Championships where they will
be searching bags on entry.
One Manager, One Trainer, and a maximum of Three Coaches are the only free passes.
Extra Wrestlers will be allowed to purchase a pass for $3 per day ONLY when
accompanied and identified by the coach.
