MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
2008 OFFICERS:
Dear Members,
PRESIDENT: BETTE GERHOLD, RE/MAX NORTHWEST TERRITORIES PRESIDENT ELECT: LOIS MALONE, LOIS MALONE REALTY VP OF MEMBERSHIP: SHERYL HUNTER, RE/MAX REALTY CENTER SECRETARY: CAROLYN KNIGGE, HOMETRUST MORTGAGE TREASURER: JEANETTE COBB
Welcome to our second quarter newsletter! I want to remind you to check out our website for our calendar, forms and contact information. We’re making it better all the time. We’ve had a very successful first half of 2008! Fortunately, for us, we have some of the best members to head up committees. Their determination and willingness to give of their time is a measure of strength which many members possess in the Houston 1960 Chapter. Dallas Crawford and Stephonie Kirby, Fidelity National Home Warranty, were very driven to make our recent Golf Tournament fundraiser one of the best ever. Even with a rainout on the original date 5/5, they quickly bounced back by scheduling an alternate date at Blackhorse Golf Course. They fondly call the rainout their “wet run”. I was so impressed with the way Dallas and Stephonie handled this committee. Thanks to their efforts, our chapter can continue to give members benefits through informative programs and educational opportunities. Without these funds we could not give to our charities or send our board to WCR conferences. You guys are the best! In May, some of the board attended WCR Midyear conference in Washington DC. Our chapter was honored by receiving the Mega Chapter Excellence Gold Award for 2007. I received the award for the chapter in Michelle Murray’s absence. Although, not present, I could feel Michelle’s spirit of enthusiasm and her constant pursuit for ways to better our chapter. This attitude was evident through her entire year of presidency! Congrats to you, Michelle! Another great honor, was receiving the Mega Chapter Retention Award! We knew ahead of time we’d be accepting the award, but were not aware that it came with a $500 check to our chapter! Icing on the cake! This achievement is the result of many that work tirelessly to make our chapter the best! I’ve not enough room to mention you all. I want to especially thank the membership committee, Gayla Skates –Chair! Your committee’s hard work has paid off and you’ve made our chapter very proud! Another surprise, it was announced that our state chapter had won Super Mega Chapter of the Year! We were all so proud! This was the big one! There was so much excitement! It was confirmed that Texas has the loudest voice around! I’m happy to report; we are reaching our goals set by our chapter’s executive committee to make 2008 the year that we all “Succeed Together”.
PAST PRESIDENT: MICHELLE MURRAY, RE/MAX REALTY CENTER

HOUSTON 1960 WINS “RETENTION” AWARD & MEGA CHAPTER EXCELLENCE GOLD AWARD
Washington D.C. was a little wet, but we survived. Something new…..I was able to watch the town hall meeting. That is really seeing what it’s all about and that we all have a voice! Increasing membership dues was voted against. Our chapter won several awards—including 2008 WCR Retention Award for a Mega Chapter and the Mega Chapter Excellence Gold Award for 2007— with our members receiving recognition in the photo above! Our chapter achieved a 81.44% retention level this year. The award included a $500 prize. As they say, you are only as good as your membership. Lois Malone, President-Elect
LOWE’S SPONSORSHIP OF HABITANT FOR HUMANITY NWHC Lowe’s has selected Habitat for Humanity NWHC Women Build as their selected charity at the grand opening of their new Spring location on Thursday, June 19th from 10 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity for us.
Special Thanks to our Annual Platinum Level Partner Barbara Locke 281-256-2772
•
We will have a table in the front of the store where we can distribute information as well as sell playhouse raffle tickets. The playhouse will be on display.
•
Lowe’s will match the amount of gift cards purchased that day and give the amount to our Women Build.
•
This is the opportunity to build a relationship with a Lowe’s store to help us get on the list for the Lowe’s grant money. Lowe’s is the national sponsor for the Women Build program, but the key to get the grant money is to get a local store to recommend us.
We need volunteers that are willing to man the table for a three hour shift: first shift 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., second shift 1:00 to 4:00, and the third 4:00 to 7:00. We would like to have 2 volunteers available any given time. This store is located at 20902 Kuykendahl, Spring 77379 (just south of FM 2920 on Kuykendahl). Second item, and this is the key, please tell everyone you know about the gift cards. If you plan to do any shopping at Lowe’s in the future, please purchase a gift card. You can get the gift card and use it at any time and Lowe’s will match that amount. If you can’t purchase your gift card that day, please let me know and I’ll purchase it for you. Ehlers, Carla Ehlers, President of Habitat for Humanity NWHC Women Build Committee Chair
