you have at least two blank pages in your passport for every country you
wish to visit.

C. INSTRUCTIONS ABOUT THE CONTENTS
BP Malaysia can arrange to have a limousine to transfer you to and from the airport.
Please inform your country host that you require a limousine and provide your travel
itinerary. Additionally, there are limousine services available at Kuala Lumpur
International Airport. The cost for transportation from the airport to a central hotel or the
KL offices is about $25-35 USD. Full charges will apply for cancellation of confirmed
bookings.
If you go to the hotel by a taxi, we recommend using Airport Limousine Service, which is
available at the arrival lounge. Be aware that once you enter the “Arrival Hall” you will
be met with a barrage of taxi “hawkers”. They may or may not be reputable taxi
services. Most taxis do not have seat belts for rear-seat passengers. BP Malaysia
requires that all vehicle occupants wear a seat belt at all times. If BP personnel pick
you up at the airport, please follow the instructions of your Meet & Assist host and
browse this material while you wait. Understanding the contents will ensure a more
pleasant and secure visit.
1. IT and Telecom Instructions (Attachment 1)

“Do not leave home without them!”
Introduction
Personal security is an individual responsibility. Security risks can be greatly reduced
by the use of common sense and precautionary actions. You – the individual – play the
most important role in maintaining your personal security. The following are a set of
guidelines to assist you in developing a sensible security routine. If you have other
concerns or wish to get further information you should contact Hill & Associates 24-hour
response service number; 02-6839 0558.
General Advice
It is important to develop a strong sense of security alertness and to modify your
behavior to the environment in which you find yourself. The following points are
intended as guide to help you achieve these objectives:
DO…
Trust your instincts. If you are in a situation or location in which you feel
uncomfortable, leave.
Take a photocopy of your passport and/or ID Card with you at all times.
Always carry your hotel name card when out dining, shopping or sightseeing.
Try to avoid carrying a brief case or wearing expensive jewellery or watches as
this may be viewed as a sign of wealth. Try also to limit the amount of money you
carry with you.
Always know where you are going or at least always behave as though you know
where you‟re going. Display a confidence that you may not necessarily feel.
If you wish to go to a restaurant, you may ask the hotel reception to book a taxi
or you could flag down a taxi at any authorized taxi stand.
You may use a taxi or the Light Rail Transit (LRT) to travel around Kuala Lumpur
for your shopping or sightseeing.
Maintain a low profile. Inebriated individuals are an easy target and excessively
loud talking or foul language may both offend and draw attention to you.
It is best to avoid dimly light or dark alleyways, streets or buildings alone after
dark or in the early morning.
Always leave yourself plenty of time for your departure flight. Please forward
your ticket to your host secretary or the support team for confirmation.
Always remember to carry RM45.00 (forty-five Ringgit Malaysia) per person to
pay the airport departure tax. The airport tax is normally included in the price of
an international flight, but is not necessarily included in the price of a domestic
ticket.
DON’T…
Place yourself in situations that may be expected to attract threats, e.g. political
rallies.
Participate in activities involving prostitutes. It is against the law in Malaysia to
engage in prostitution, either as a client or as a prostitute.
Possess or use illegal drugs. Drug possession is viewed as a serious crime in
Malaysia and carries penalties up to and including the death penalty.
HOTEL SECURITY
Locate emergency exits.
Learn to recognize hotel staff uniforms.
Keep the room door locked.
Use spy holes before opening the hotel door. Do not simply rely on door chains,
as they may not be secure.
Use safes and safety deposit boxes to store valuables.
Watch your luggage at all times, especially when checking in or out; even in five-
star hotels.
Never invite strangers into your room.
WALKING ON THE STREET
Pickpockets are the main threat when walking on the street, particularly in busy area
such as markets, shopping malls and the airport. The following points should be kept in
mind if you plan to walk in public areas.
Always be aware and alert to your surroundings.
Keep wallets in the front trouser pockets or inside jacket pockets rather than in
the back pockets.
Keep handbags zipped or closed.
Handbags should be held securely and carried on the side furthest from the road
to discourage drive-by bag snatchers.
Purses should be kept secure and not carried in open shopping bags.
Walk nearer to the curb to avoid passing too close to shrubbery, dark doorways
and other places of concealment.
If you must use a personal stereo, i.e., a Walkman, keep the volume down low
enough so that you can hear what‟s happening around you.
Beware of „accidental‟ collisions that could be planned distractions for
pickpockets.
Avoid being alone at night.
Carry spare „give-away‟ cash in case of a robbery. DO NOT resist such an
attack. The robber probably only wants your money. Holding on to a small
amount of money is not worth the risk of personal injury.
Avoid excessive displays of wealth. Do not carry large sums of cash unless
absolutely necessary. Spread cash around your person so it is not in one large
„wad‟.
Be wary of suspicious characters loitering.
Be friendly, smile but be suspicious of people approaching you on the street.
Don‟t be hassled by vendors. Stop looking at their merchandise and just say
"Tidak" or "Terima Kasih", and keep on walking.
Do not carry weapons for protection.
Do not accept lifts from strangers.
CREDIT CARDS
“Credit Card Skimming” in Kuala Lumpur is not a major problem; but it does happen.
With this in mind, you should ensure that the credit cards are secured and kept under
your custody to prevent the criminals from scanning/skimming the information from your
credit card and duplicating the card. The first thing you will know about it will be when
you start getting bills from exotic places for interesting services.
Do not allow a salesclerk or wait-staff to double swipe your card. This can be an
indication of them attempting to „skim‟ your card.
Ensure that they do not place two payment slips in the card swipe machine,
producing identical bills.
Attempt to keep your credit card within sight at all times.
Keep a photocopy of your credit cards in your home safe and have ready access to the
credit card company emergency numbers.

Office Safety & Malaysia Business Unit LOCAL RULES
OFFICE SAFETY
You will be issued a Visitor Pass upon arrival at Menara Maxis. The host will brief you
on „VISITOR SAFETY RULES & PROCEDURES‟ upon arrival at the BP Malaysia
Office. If you are not given one, please request your host to obtain one for you. He/She
will issue a copy of the “Safety Information Brochure” to you.
LOCAL RULES
The following 10 key local rules are the basic rules that everyone working in BP
Malaysia are expected to abide by. They form the basis and culture of a Team that

a need as the task progresses.
4. Protect your health and always wear the correct PPE.
5. Never walk past an unsafe act or equipment and ALWAYS report accidents,
incidents and near misses as soon as possible.
6. Safety “off the job” is as important as “on the job”.
7. Prevent all leaks and spills.
8. Ensure all waste is properly categorized and put in the correct place.
9. Simple things matter: Don‟t rush or run, Keep your work area clean and tidy.

Food, Water, Climate & Medical Care
5.1 Food
There is a lot of good food in Kuala Lumpur. There are numerous reputable restaurants
serving international cuisines.
If you are going to prepare food in your residence, follow these simple rules:
Thoroughly wash all fruit and vegetables before eating; preferably with bottled or
boiled water.
Peel all fruit and vegetables to be eaten raw. If they cannot be peeled, do not eat
them raw.
Avoid eating under-cooked or raw meat, fish or shellfish.
Don‟t consume unpasteurized cow, sheep or goat‟s milk. If in doubt, bring it almost
to a boil first. Dairy products such as ice cream, butter and cheese, if from an
uncertain source, should be avoided.
While restaurants are open late in the evening, retail grocery markets generally close by
8 PM. Westerners (like Americans) that are used to 24-hour access to almost
everything will find this not to be the norm in Malaysia. Additionally, while large grocery
market „chains‟ (Tops, Cold Storage, etc.) are open on Sunday, most local stores are
not.
5.2 Water
It is probably better not to drink water from the tap. Tap water should be boiled for 15
minutes before drinking.
It is preferable to use sealed bottled water for drinking and food preparation.
You can always buy bottled water from stores, shops, retail outlets, restaurants, or
any dealer selling bottled water.
5.3 Climate
Malaysia has a tropical climate. Temperatures in Kuala Lumpur can rise to 33 degrees
C (95 degrees F). The average is about 27 - 30 degrees C (80 – 86 degrees F).
The climate is not sufficiently extreme to produce many cases of heat illnesses, but
when heavy work begins, time must be allowed to acclimatize. Sufficient fluids must be
taken to ensure an internal fluid balance.
5.4 Medical Care
If you need any medical assistance during office hour, contact Twin Towers Medical
Center, KLCC at 03-2382 3500.
After office hours, you may go to a hospital nearby or company appointed clinics:
a) Drs Catterall Khoo & Raja Malek & Partners, Tel: 03-2094 1730

Visa Procedures, Customs and Banking
6.1. Visa Procedures
To enter Malaysia on business matters, you may be required to obtain a visa. This will
depend on your country of citizenship and/or residence. Please check with your own
country embassy for further requirements.
You will be required to complete an immigration card prior to arrival at the airport
Immigration checkpoint. The Immigration Officer will place the “Departure Card” in your
passport. Ensure that you retain this card in your passport. You will be asked to
surrender the card upon departure from Malaysia.
6.2 Customs and Duties
BP will not pay any customs or duty charges and will not take responsibility for any
problems that may arise when attempting to take prohibited items (guns, drugs,
animals) in or out of Malaysia. Please contact our representatives for further issues.
6.3 Money
Major credit cards are widely accepted within Malaysia at all international hotels &
restaurants. Individual shops and small restaurants only accept Malaysian Ringgits.
The national currency is Ringgit Malaysia (RM). The Ringgit is currently “pegged” to the
US Dollar at a rate of $1USD to 3.80RM. The main notes you will come across are:
RM 100
RM 50
RM 10
RM 5
RM 2
RM 1
(Check the local press for exchange rates for other countries)
Most ATM cards are accepted at banking institutions throughout KL. Check the back of
your ATM card and compare the logos to those on the ATM to make certain.
6.4 Banking
There is a branch of the RHB Bank Berhad and Bumiputra-Commerce Bank on the
ground floor of Suria KLCC Tower.
There is also a branch of Maybank Berhad at lower ground of Petronas Tower 1, KLCC.
