Symbolism (p. 69)

Gloria Dump has Opal plant something the first day she is there. Opal thinks it is a plant, but Gloria says
it is a tree. Opal has to pack it down like tucking in a baby. Gloria calls it a “wait and see” tree because
they have to wait and see what it grows up to be. How is the tree used to symbolize a person?
