                            Cub Camp Planning Workbook
      Introduction
For many years, Twin Valley Council has been holding Council organized overnight camps. These camps
have traditionally been called "Fun with Son" and "Webelos Adventure" camps. However, for at least the
past several years, these camps have not been properly accredited by National BSA as "Resident Camps",
or "Family Camps". As a result, the Twin Valley Council is in jeopardy of losing the opportunity to provide
overnight camping opportunities to Cub Scouts.

In order to provide the best possible camping opportunity for our Cub Scouts, we must strive to pass the
National Standards for Council-Organized Family Camps . To begin working towards that goal, this workbook
has been assembled based on information distributed at National Camp School at Camp Ripley in February,
      2004.

Because of the variety of available facilities at our 6 different resident camping locations, each camp location
will need to complete their own workbook. However, since many of the activities being held are the same
between the different Fun with Son and Webelos Camps, the camps may collaborate to complete those
similar sections. Likewise, this workbook can be used to assist with the planning of Twin Valley Council Day
      Camps.

      Purpose of the National Standards
       The standards are established to:
         1. Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of every camper, leader, visitor, and staff member
         participating in family camping.
          2. Help the council take pride in the high quality of its family camp(s), including the program,
          staff, facilities, and equipment.
The local council is responsible, regardless of the location of the family camp, for assuring that
        the facilities meet these standards.
As a result of these standards, the council should be able to
          ● Objectively review its family camping operation.
          ● Discuss the year-round outdoor program opportunities.
          ● Issue a written report for camping committee action, complete with recommendations.
