ASSISTANT BARS AND RETAIL MANAGER                                   REF: NFC1333
Grade 5: £20,327 - £22,236 per annum

An opportunity has arisen to assist the Bars and Retail Operations Manager to ensure that the
bar and retail units function efficiently and effectively, and that operational policies and practices
are effectively implemented. You will be responsible on a day to day basis for the safe, efficient
and effective operation of the bar and retail operations to ensure the effective delivery of quality
services that continue to enhance the student experience.

A National Licensees Certificate/Personal licence and proven experience of leading and
motivating a small team of staff are essential. You will also have experience of Epos Systems
and multiple till operation and experience in the development and training of others.

Salary and Conditions of Service (grades 1 – 10)

Salary range for Grade 5 is from £20,327 - £22,236 per annum. The commencing salary will
depend upon the qualifications and experience of the person appointed. The appointment is
subject to the Conditions of Service governing Clerical and Related staff.

    JOB TITLE:                        Assistant Bars and Retail Operations Manager

    RESPONSIBLE TO:                   Bars and Retail Operations Manager

    RESPONSIBLE FOR:                  Bars and retail supervisors, bar and retail assistants and student and
                                      casual staff.

    GRADE:                            Grade 5 - £20,327 - £22,236 per annum

    PURPOSE OF POST:                  To assist the Bars and Retail Operations Manager to ensure that the
                                      bar and retail units functions efficiently and effectively, and that
                                      operational policies and practices are effectively implemented.

                                      To ensure the highest standards of customer care and quality of
                                      service are delivered.

                                      This is a position with many demands which will require the active
                                      operational involvement that will lead the bars and retail team to
                                      achieve set objectives.

                                      The post holder is expected to work closely with the Bars and Retail
                                      Operations Manager and the Students Union to ensure the effective
                                      delivery of quality services that continue to enhance the student
                                      experience.



    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Key Responsibilities

1. To be responsible on a day to day basis for the safe, efficient and effective and operation of the
   bar and retail operations.

2. To support the Bars and Retail Operations Manager in developing the business plan for the bar
   and retail operations

3. To be responsible for achieving business plan targets in the bar and retail outlets in conjunction
   with the CSM.

4. To deputise for the Bars and Retail Operations Manager in their absence.

5. Efficient deployment and supervision of assigned staff including assisting with the induction and
   training of new student/casual where required.

6. Leading by example in all aspects of service delivery to all staff to achieve the highest
   standards for the role.

7. Be responsible for the dissemination of information to the staffing team and keeping staff
   informed of product information and developments within the retail sector.

8. To maintain effective and positive relationships with suppliers.

General Responsibilities

9. Serve customers and deal with comments, routine complaints and enquiries. Escalate any
   serious complaints to the Bars and Retail Operations Manager. Provide ongoing customer
   feedback that enables the service to be improved and make recommendations to the Bars and
   Retail Operations Manager regarding service changes.

10. Maintaining excellent standards of service expressed in operational policy and implementing
    consistently high levels of customer care.

11. To supervise, implement and monitor the delivery of key marketing initiatives of the services as
    part of the ‘business plan’, in particular with pricing and promotion across all outlets.

12. Be responsible for the implementation of the presentation, merchandising and display of goods
    and products so that this meets and exceeds current industry standards.

13. Be responsible for the efficient checking of delivery notes and for reconciliation of delivery notes
    to invoices, all in accordance with defined University procedures and policies.

14. Be responsible for monitoring and recording information required for all on account sales.

15. Be responsible for the day to day supervision and management information requirements of the
    EPOS system.

16. Be responsible for the day to day cash control of the operation.

17. To assist in all aspects of stock management in relation to ordering, transfer from stores, control
    and distribution, in order to help optimise profitability, reduce waste and improve overall
    performance.

18. To comply with all aspects of the financial operation of the outlets in accordance with University
    policy and operational guidelines.

19. Implementing the highest standards of operational hygiene.

20. Rectifying problems when they occur and reporting faults and problems to the Bars and Retail
    Operations Manager when they cannot.

21. Be a safe and building key holder as required

22. Be responsible for observing and monitoring the Health and Safety management system in line
    with the University’s Health and Safety policy and procedures.

23. To promptly report, and maintain records of any incident/accidents in accordance with
    University policy.

24. The post holder will be a suitable person, as defined by licensing legislation, to hold and retain a
    personal license and will ensure that the operation complies with the requirements of University
    licenses whilst on duty.

25. To maintain a smart appearance and/or to wear clothing/name badge provided by the University
    whilst at work.

26. The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a positive attitude towards equal opportunities
    principles and best practice as they apply to the University and Commercial operation.

27. From time to time the post holder may be required to perform other duties in Commercial
    Services and in particular to carry out any other such duties as reasonably requested by the
    Bars and Retail Operations Manager or other senior manager. This may include work in other
    commercial areas.

28. To assist the Bars and Retail Operations Manager on any short, medium and long term
    operational improvements that can be made in the operation of the bars and retail outlets.

29. On occasions the post holder will be required to work in the evening or at weekends

30. The post holder may be on occasion be required to work extra hours to fulfill their role and this
    will be reflected by the grading and salary awarded.
