Overview of the estate

The Thurmaston estate in the Leicestershire area is managed by Sarah Nelson, Housing
Officer as part of a portfolio of 238 properties. Attached is a map.

Area Narrative:

The village of Thurmaston is located within four miles of the city of Leicester and
approximately 11 miles from Loughborough. There is a regular bus service to Leicester,
Loughborough, the surrounding villages and the retail outlets within the village.

The village has a large Asda supermarket with a retail park across the road which
houses stores such as Pizza Hut, Dunelm and TK Maxx.

Narrative about property mix:

The area has a mixture of owner occupied properties, Housing Association properties
and Council owned properties.

The council owned properties are a mixture of semi-detached family housing, duplex
properties, flats and bungalows. The majority of the flats and bedsits are in the blocks
located at Offranville Close.

Sheltered schemes:

St Michaels Court, Melton Road – 22 Units and warden’s accommodation.

Layout:

The houses in the village have parking outside the properties on the road; however some
have hard standing at the front of the property. The houses also have private gardens to
the rear.

The duplex properties have a shared access to the rear gardens with each flat having
one section of the garden at the rear.

The blocks of flats at Offranville Close are low rise flats with one block being enclosed
with a shared main entrance door and shared stairwells and corridors. One block is
open with shared stairwells and walkways and a separate block houses brick built duplex
properties with individual entrances. The area has communal gardens and drying
facilities and a large car park within the grounds.
