                                                 Jeff Rice
                                                 Head	Coach

Jeff	Rice	enters	his	fifth	season	as	the	head	coach	of	the	Women's	Basketball	program.	Last
Season	Coach	Rice	directed	the	Lady	Bulldogs	to	the	ACC	tournament	championship	as
well	as	a	bid	to	the	NAIA	Division	2	National	Tournament.	His	overall	record	stands	at	76-
55.	Prior	to	being	named	head	coach,	Coach	Rice	served	as	an	assistant	to	Coach	Harrison
for	16	seasons.	During	that	time,	the	program	won	over	325	games,	won	six	conference
championships,	and	participated	in	six	NAIA	national	tournaments.	He	was	also	the	head
softball	coach	from	1995-2006,	where	he	directed	the	program	to	6	conference	championships
and	9	region	appearances.	His	career	softball	record	was	350-234.	Coach	Rice	was	named
conference	coach	of	the	year	3	times.	This	summer	Coach	Rice	was	also	named	the	Head
Women's	Golf	Coach.

Coach	Rice's	teams	have	been	very	sucessful	on	the	court	and	in	the	classroom. Sixty	players
have	been	selected	first	All-Conference,	including	six	conference	players	of	the	year. Also,
twenty-five	players	have	been	selected	All-Region. Twenty	players	have	been	names	as	NAIA
Academic	All-Americans. Every	one	of	his	former	players	who	have	finished	their	playing
eligibility	has	either	graduated	or	is	currently	working	toward	a	degree.

Coach	Rice	came	to	Tennessee	Wesleyan	in	the	fall	of	1989	to	work	under	Coach	Stan
Harrison	and	to	participate	in	baseball. "I	figured	out	very	early	that	playing	in	the	major
leagues	was	not	in	my	future	plans	and	that	I	should	work	at	something	that	I	was	going	to	do
for	the	rest	of	my	life."

Coach	Rice	is	originally	from	Jonesborough,	TN	and	a	1989	graduate	of	David	Crockett	High
School,	where	he	played	for	current	TWC	Men's	basketball	coach	Mike	Poe. He	is	a	'94
graduate	of	Tennessee	Wesleyan,	resides	in	Athens	and	is	married	to	the	former	Tiffany	Jones.
He	has	two	step-children,	Gage	and	Sydnee.

                                         TWC HISTORY & SETTING
First	founded	in	1857	as	Athens	female	College,	Tennessee	Wesleyan	has	enjoyed	an	ongoing	and	dynamic	relationship	with	the	United
Methodist	Church.	In	the	late	1860s,	it	became	one	of	the	first	institutions	of	higher	education	in	the	South	to	admit	both	men	and	women.
Over	the	decades,	the	college	has	endured	wars,	economic	depressions	and	several	name	changes,	but	it	has	never	lost	its	identity	and
place	as	an	important	center	of	learning	in	southeast	Tennessee.	In	the	21st	century,	it	continues	its	tradition	of	providing	students	with	the
resources	and	support	they	need	to	grow	into	themselves	and	their	future	success.

Tennessee	Wesleyan	is	especially	proud	of	the	commitment	its	coaches	and	athletes	make	to	achieving	excellence	in	the	classroom.	The
college	believes	that	student-athletes	are	students	first	and	athletes	second.	A	winning	season	and	trip	to	a	national	championship	make
wonderful	memories,	but	athletes’	educations	and	future	successes	comes	first.	Tennessee	Wesleyan’s	coaches	and	athletic	department
make	every	effort	to	provide	the	college’s	athletes	with	the	resources	needed	to	succeed	academically.

The College’s dedication to athletics is based on the belief that sports are a vital part of a comprehensive education and that athletic
participation	and	competition	teach	important	life	lessons	such	as	cooperation,	dedication,	leadership,	discipline	and	respect	that	enhance
an	athlete’s	education	and	future	success.
