 First insurance group ever to achieve the Incisive Media Gold Standard
 Employee Chartered Institute of Insurance exam success

Local employer, Fortis Insurance Solutions (formerly The OutRight Company), which
has 318 employees based at its Trentham Lakes office in Stoke, has gone from Fortis House
strength to strength this quarter in terms of achieving a prestigious industry accolade
and 48 passes in the industry standard Chartered Institute of Insurance qualifications. Hampshire
                                                                                           SO53 3YA

Fortis has recently been accredited the first ever insurance group in the UK to achieve
the Incisive Media Gold Standard for Insurance award1, presented at a ceremony
hosted by Lord Hunt of Wirral at the House of Commons. This significant recognition
assessed the company’s performance across the five elements of trust, value, financial
strength, service and its capability to conduct business well.

Sarah Godfrey, Chair of the judging panel of industry experts commented: “The fact
that even in such turbulent financial times certain companies stand out for their
commitment to treating customers fairly and the robustness of their processes, is a real
indication of the enduring quality of the Gold Standard Award winners.”

Exam success
Committed to the development of its workforce, Fortis is also delighted to announce that
its employees based at the Stoke office achieved a 71 per cent overall pass rate in the
recent Chartered Insurance Institute Exams2, with a total of 48 exams passed in the last
examination sessions for the various modules.

The candidates received full support from the company, which conducts inhouse group
educational sessions for the various modules and also allows employees individual study
time prior to sitting the examinations.
Modules taken at the last examination sessions included:

 The Foundation Insurance Test, the basic award in insurance
     Insurance legal and regulatory
     Motor Insurance Products
     Household Insurance Products

The latter three modules all form part of the Certificate in Insurance (Cert CII), a core
qualification for insurance staff working across all sectors of the industry (and the logical
progression from the introductory-level Foundation Insurance Test). Four candidates took
the House Insurance Products module at the last session and not only did they all pass but
they also achieved the Cert CII qualification, bringing the number of Stoke based
employees who are Cert CII qualified to a total of 31.

In addition, Fortis is recognised by the CII as an official examination centre, so all
employees who take exams do so in the familiar surroundings of their own workplace.

Rachel Rothwell works in the E-Commerce department at Fortis and was one of the four
staff members who achieved Cert CII status following the last examinations. Rachel
commented: “The level of tuition and support provided by Fortis is excellent and the
increased knowledge of the business of insurance gained through sitting the CII
examinations gives me a greater understanding and background in my job.”

Reflecting on the successes Geoff Carter, Managing Director, Fortis Insurance
Solutions commented: “I’m impressed with the hard work and commitment that the
team here in Stoke continue to deliver to further develop themselves and to contribute
to the success of the insurance business in the UK. As a company we have seen some
major steps forward in our strategy this year with the launch of new brands, the
acquisition of new strategic partnerships including Greenbee (part of the John Lewis
Partnership) and also the implementation of our own brand change to Fortis. I am
proud of the team in helping us to achieve these successes and am optimistic that the
team and business will see continued success in 2009.”
