stories that are passed along by
   word of mouth in a culture.
                   Fables
 Have animal characters that speak or act
  like humans.
 Include a moral (principle of right or wrong
  behavior).
 Usually rather short in length.
              Folk Tales
 Have characters that are humans or human-
  like animals
 Are told for entertainment
 Should not taken as truthful
                 Legends
 Are not entirely invented-based on some
  element of historical truth
 Include a lot of exaggeration and fantasy
 Have heroes who perform great deeds
                  Myths
 Give reasons– explain natural events, the
  origin of inventions, or how the world began
 Have lessons that provide examples of good
  and bad behavior
 Are about gods, goddesses, super humans,
