Professional Accomplishments
Nov. 2003 – Apr. 2008 EDS - Application Development Manager /Project Manager Kansas City, MO/Overland Park, KS Simultaneously led the development and implementation of numerous global projects on EDS’ Black & Veatch account. This included an invoice processing application, a corporate expense reporting system and a data warehousing infrastructure created to support a companywide business intelligence practice. Partially through my efforts the EDS Black and Veatch account was able to acquire Carnegie Mellon® Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Capability Maturity Model® Integration (CMMI) level 3 certification in March of 2008. Managed all aspects of development for numerous dissimilar development efforts on EDS’ USDA account. This included maintaining project plans, monitoring quality control processes, ensuring process adherence, and managing customer relationships and technical resources. This effort resulted in the successful deployment of a variety of web based applications and databases leading to satisfied customers and new business opportunities. Recovered several failing development projects by instituting basic project management techniques such as managing to project plans, adhering to documented requirements, following development processes, and enforcing quality standards. Provided thought leadership by introducing new technologies to the customer including Bluetooth connectivity and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled applications. In addition authored white papers/presentations on Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence.
Increased productivity, work product excellence, and employee ownership while decreasing attrition by revitalizing the team’s quality of work life. This included instituting morale boosting activities, team building events and peer recognition. It also included facilitating reconciliation between hostile individuals and quarreling organizations. The results of this effort yielded extremely high scores in employee quality of work life surveys. May 2001 – Nov. 2003 Sprint - Internet Hosting Development Manager Overland Park, KS Led a cross-functional team to establish the product development time table for 2001 for Managed Hosting. This included negotiating priorities, setting milestones, and juggling resource allocation across a 400+ seat organization. The effort yielded an approximate 50% increase in productivity from the previous year. Collaborated with upstream sales and marketing organizations to identity new product offerings and enhancements to the current product base. Worked with downstream organizations to address product deficiencies and enhancements. Ensured through all of this that the quality of the work product adhered to Sprint standards Collaborated in the creation of a new development methodology/process designed to facilitate rapid product development across dissimilar yet dependant teams with often competing priorities. Overall development time was significantly reduced with the implementation of the new methodology. Created an affinity group to facilitate communication across the entire continuum of a product's life cycle. The effort yielded several product enhancements and identified significant areas of lost and future revenue. Devised a "Just in Time" support process for products that were developed and implemented at an escalated pace with little if any supporting documentation.
Facilitated the successful expansion of the internal customer base by networking across untapped and often neglected sister organizations. The effort identified services that were being provided for which the company received no revenue. In addition, new products had more enterprise-wide buy-in and support when the additional organization had a voice in their design. Conceived and matured an entirely new organization dedicated to providing backend database services for Internet hosting. The new team successfully developed fully integrated solutions for Oracle and Microsoft SQL hosting customers. This included the development of some primary support functions including backups, monitoring, and geographic redundancy. The new organization became a model for less effective, already existing, engineering organizations.
Jan. 1999 – May 2001 Carlson Marketing Group - Infrastructure Operations / Application Dev. Mgr. Troy, MI Responsible for all infrastructure and operations support for a 450-seat client/server installation. Orchestrated the day-to-day activities of all helpdesk, desktop support, system administration, network administration, application operations, and asset management personnel. Transitioned the entire infrastructure from a small departmental platform to a corporate enterprise model. This included building a 24/7 support system, instituting processes for change control/security administration, establishing performance metrics, and migrating portions of the operation to a hardened data center. This effort allowed the company to take on larger customers with more sophisticated marketing needs. Responsible for leadership and personnel management for 40 programmers in a dynamic, rapid application client server/internet development environment. Unified the dissimilar development styles of programmers and graphic artists. This yielded a harmonious work environment and better productivity. Monitored, mentored, and assisted marginal employees with professional development and corrective action.

FHCP is a nonprofit residential facility which provides a safe haven for women and their children recovering from alcohol and other drug addictions. Board of Directors Member, Community Resource Network (CRN). CRN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing IT services to other nonprofit organizations in the Kansas City area.
