Starter: Two Minute Challenge
• Login, open you Y9 Sketchup Workbook from last lesson (in
  your Sketchup folder).

• Look through the example school designs in:

Shared  BITE  ICT KS3  Year 9  Y9 Google Sketchup 
Lesson 3 to 5  Example Schools.
Objectives
• Become familiar with computer aided design (CAD) tools.

• Deepen our knowledge of Computer Aided Design Tools.

• Apply CAD skills to a given scenario to solve a problem.
The Scenario
Conyers School has decided to invest 6 million pounds in
      developing a new school campus.

They require an innovative design which is modern, unique and
stands out in the local community.

The school will be built on the surrounding fields of the existing
      building.

The current building will then be knocked down and become the
      car park area.

You are required to produce a design of the new school for
presenting to the governors in four weeks’ time.
A Real World Example
Key Questions
• What are you being asked to create?

• Why is it needed?

• What must it contain?

• How long do you have to do it?

• Why are we using CAD?

Task: The Steps Involved
Today you will begin your school design project.
• Step 1: Do your research. Look at some existing schools in both the gallery
and in the example schools presentation.

• Step 2: Plan your work. On paper, sketch out a quick design of the layout to
meet your requirements – these are in your workbook.

• Step 3: Draw your building outlines (camera view: TOP). Start with a
ground plan, like shown below, then just pull out.

• Step 4: Start editing, adding components and textures
Objectives Review
• Become familiar with computer aided design (CAD) tools.

• Deepen our knowledge of Computer Aided Design Tools.

• Apply CAD skills to a given scenario to solve a problem.
Personal Reflection Plenary (10 mins)
• Ask other people around you to comment on your school so far.

THEN:

Complete your workbook by:

- Updating your requirements checklist – place an X in the boxes
of the requirements you have done today.
- Complete the lesson 3 section.
Homework
