International
Solidarités Jeunesses is the French branch of Youth Action for Peace, a movement
created after the First World War in order to reconcile people of different
nationalities through a better mutual understanding. Solidarités Jeunesses works
alongside a number of partner organisations world-wide, exchanging volunteers
and organising international solidarity projects.

National
Solidarités Jeunesses is a national youth organisation, recognised by the French
Ministry of Youth and Sport. Our national headquarters are situated in Paris. We
organise short and longer-term international youth volunteer workcamps and
voluntary services, projects with people from disadvantaged areas, training
sessions, and international solidarity projects. We also manage rural residential and
community centres.

Regional
Solidaités Jeunesses is composed of 7 regional delegations: Ile-de-France,
Franche-Comté, Languedoc-Roussillon, PACA, Auvergne, Poitou-Charentes and
Midi-Pyrénées. Moreover it cooperates with partners in the regions of Bretagne,
Lorraine and with La Croisée des Regards in the region PACA.

Workcamps
The international workcamp is a very important part in the action undertaken by
Solidarités Jeunesses. It is prepared a long time in advance in the different regional
offices and the National Secretariat.
The international workcamp, open to volunteers of any age, is seen as a tool of
local and personal development, tolerance and understanding between the
different participants. Furthermore, we lay emphasis on the inclusion of people
coming from disadvantaged areas. The workcamps promote the active participation
of the local population.

along side local job-seekers restoring the heritage of the surrounding communities.
The work will take place on two sites, the first being a castle where volunteers will
whitewash the interior walls. The second site is a winery, where they will build

 SJ02 - Faï Chantier Ouvert
 01/04-31/10 RENO / ENVI / ACTI 7 volunteers
Project: The “Faï” is a farm that has been converted into a national and
international meeting centre. The goal of our project is to bring together people
from different social and cultural backgrounds. Every year international volunteers,
families, handicapped people, youth with social disabilities, and tourists come to
participate in the restoration of the farm, to take a holiday, or to organize a specific
project (plays, seminars, etc.). The participation of international volunteers in our
project is a unique chance for all of the residents to discover new cultures, and
helps to promote volunteering. For the volunteers, the Faï open workcamp is an
original way of discovering our social project. In order to make the most of your
stay, we encourage at least one month's service. However, you are welcome to join
us for a shorter period if this is not possible.
SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT: Our project is situated in a very rural area. The closest
village is 20 min away by foot. Although there are no shops there and only 80
inhabitants, the people here are very dynamic and friendly. They are working hard
to maintain the social and economic life of their village and will be enthusiastic to
meet with you and invite you for a meal!
WORK: In 2009, we will start the creation of a multi-purpose room, continue the
creation of the open air cultural centre, and do environmental work. You will take
part in collective life, in the intercultural and musical evening gatherings and in the
local festivals taking place in surrounding villages.
Location: South of France, about 2 hours drive from Marseille.
SJ03 - Vaunières Chantier Ouvert
01/04-31/10 RENO / ACTI 7 volunteers
PROJECT : Vaunieres village is a national and international meeting centre. The

backgrounds. Every year, international volunteers, families, handicapped people,
youth with social disabilities and tourists come to participate in the restoration of
the village, to take a holiday, or to organize a specific project (plays, seminars,

The participation of international volunteers in our project is a unique chance for all

discovering our social project. In order to make the most of your stay, we
encourage at least one month's service. However, you are welcome to join us for a
shorter period if this is not possible.
SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT: Our project is situated in a very rural area. Most of the
houses in Vaunieres date back to the 17th century, at a time when pastoral
activities thrived. In the 1950's and over the past 60 years, many residents have
left this countryside, forced to search for better paying jobs in the city. That said,
the people who continue to live in this area work hard to maintain the social and
cultural life of their village.
The best way to meet them is to join their local festivals!
WORK: In 2009, we will continue the restoration of the façades of the village, do
some landscaping and environmental work. You will take part in collective life, in
the intercultural and musical evening gatherings and in local festivals taking place
in the villages roundabout.
Location: South of France, about 2 hours drive from Marseille.

Project: Place des Chaumes - Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
The objective of the project will be to examine the history of a former Spanish

work on Place des Chaumes in order to create a convivial place for all!
This tricultural workcamp takes place in a town of 3000 inhabitants, 80km North of
Bordeaux. This is a project on the memory of a place that was a Spanish refugee
camp during the Second World War, as well as a detention center for German
soldiers. Working with the residents, witnesses of this past, and their children we
will create a historical exhibition and conduct video interviews. We will set up a
symbolic monument that indicates the areas history, talk with the residents to
think of a new use for the building, and once again organise the traditional
celebration of the first weekend of May.
Throughout the three weeks volunteers will have time to discover the surrounding
area and the French culture. They may visit Bordeaux, La Rochelle, Cognac, and
stroll along the Atlantic Ocean. Volunteers will have a high level of autonomy in
