In a restricted fire season, you must have a permit for solid fuel barbeques (e.g. charcoal) or braziers. some things to abou know lighting fires Safety points to remember: · Fires are NOT permitted at the beach at any time · You CANNOT let off fireworks during a restricted fire season unless you have a permit · You NEED a permit to light solid fuel (e.g. charcoal) barbeques or braziers in a restricted fire season. Gas barbeques are exempt. you ought Fire Restrictions When the weather makes it dangerous to light fires in the open it is the Council’s job to impose fire restrictions to protect residents and visitors to the district. These restrictions are advertised in the paper and on radio. You can call us on (03) 313 6136 or (03) 327 6834 or go to our website www.waimakariri.govt.nz to check if any restrictions are in force. During a restricted fire season NO fire can be lit in the open without the express permission of the Council. Fire Permits · These are issued by the Rural Fire Officer during a restricted fire season. · The permit must be signed by both parties to ensure conditions are complied with · All fire sites are inspected. · This means you need to apply early to allow time for processing and receiving your permit. · There is currently no charge for fire permits. Fires in enclosed drums and incinerators and crop residue burning You do not need a fire permit for these fires BUT you MUST still register your intention to burn with the Council before lighting up. If you are planning to burn-off crop residue you need to contact us at the start of the season to arrange authorisation. You must do this every year. Special conditions apply. Contact Customer Services to find out more. The person who lights the fire will be held responsible if it should escape.
