Industry - Institute Linkages
NMIMS is proactive in Industry-Institute Partnership addressing all aspects, which enhances
networking between academia and industry. The university maintains a sustained relationship with
companies to expose the students to the realms of the corporate environment.
The primary focus of the school is to provide students with excellent education relevant to the
present and emerging industry requirements. For this purpose the industry linkage is an important
factor and this is in-built into the curriculum. Some of the steps taken in this direction are:
Linkages with the Community
Students are encouraged to become members of Professional Bodies and the school is also a
corporate member of a number of such bodies. Students are also encouraged to form student
chapters of Social Forums like Rotract Club and Social Responsibility Forums through which they are
channelized to work for the community.
Linkages with Technical Institutions in the Region
The school has on its Board of Studies several leading educationists like Principals, Ex-Principals and
Sr. Professors of reputed engineering institutions, Ex-Director-IIT-Madras, Director- CDAC, etc.
Continuous interactions are maintained with these institutions.
NMIMS University signs MOU with University of Houston, College of Engineering, Houston, Texas.
Linkages Abroad
In order to ensure that our brew has global appeal, NMIMS University has been collaborating with
global institutions of repute. The relationships already exist with the following:
• Harvard Business School
• Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece.
• ESC Rouen, EUROMED Marseille Ecole de Management, France.
• Grenoble Ecole de Management, Grenoble, France.
• University of Houston, USA.
• Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland USA.
• Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), Melbourne, Australia.
• Senaca College of Applied Arts & Technology, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
• ESSCA, Angers, Grance.
• ESSCA, Budapest, Hungery.
• EUROMED, Merseille, France.
Linkages with R&D Laboratories
The programme is in its infancy and this aspect will be looked into in the coming few years. 25
students of first batch of M. Tech. who completed the programme were awarded a degree at the
convocation - 2008. 45 students have been enrolled for Ph.D. Engineering Science since 2006-07
and they are pursuing their research work.
24
Linkages with Professional Bodies
The chapters and students' chapters of several national and international professional bodies are
established at NMIMS and are organizing various activities. This includes IEEE, ISTE, IICHE, ISTD,
ISME, IETE, PMI etc.
Industrial Training & Project Work
Under MBA (Tech.) Programme, the 9th trimester which falls under the 3rd year is earmarked for
Industrial Training and a minor project of 3-5 months duration. The objective of this training is to
familiarize the students with the overall working of the Industrial Organization in their respective
area of specialization & also to undertake a project.
In the 13th trimester, the students will undertake a major project of 3-5 months duration in the
industry. This project will address the industry's pressing needs in any techno-managerial field. The
objective of the programme shall be to enhance the students' managerial skills & promote a strong
bonding with the industry.
Both the training/ project work mentioned above carry full credits and the students would be
evaluated based on their training performance, their project report & their performance in the
subsequent presentation/ viva examination.
Under B.Tech programme, students are required to undergo four to six weeks summer training at the
end of third year in industry. It gives the interns a glimpse of the corporate arena and allows them to
develop their skill sets. The college placecom maintains a database of students' profiles through
which companies can search for prospective interns meeting their project requirements.

performance. Their students are very polished, have put great efforts in acquiring skills
during their project work and classrooms. They are very good with their communication
skills and have good potential to scale up for the opportunities / challenges of the corporate
that they shall enter.
• The students are good and the plus point has been the hunger to prove themselves and I
hope that this continues in the further batches. The approach and attitude of students was
very good and that enhances the college talent measure.

Students Speak
Till December 2009, I was one of the many B.Tech final year students who was worried about our placements
and whether anyone from the first batch of B.Tech MPSTME would actually land a job.
The New Year changed all that in a jiffy! January 2010 saw companies like Infosys, Accenture and Capital IQ to
name a few making offer to a large number of students who fared exceedingly well in the aptitude test and
interview.
I speak on behalf of most students when I say that the day we got jobs in our hands, it left us with a superlative
feeling of joy, relief and security.
- Abhinav Dayal, B.Tech. (EXTC)
With the threat of unemployment looming due to recession, there was palpable tension in the air as I entered
the 4th year. Good news came late in the year (around December) in the form of Capital IQ and Infosys visiting
our campus. The procedure was very smooth and students grabbed the chance to show their calibre, exceeding
the expectations of the recruiters and putting their apprehensions to rest.
The hard work and long hours put in by the placement committee slowly began to bear fruit when reputed
companies such as Accenture recruited students in droves. Placement Committee was always there to clear my
doubts, and noted as an effective interface between us & the industry. Assistance was provided in the form of
seminars to tackle aptitude tests, interviews, GDs etc.
I would like to wrap up my narration of my experiences by saying that Placement Committee did a
commendable job and has placed our college firmly in the minds of recruiters looking for quality students.
- Neavin Samuel, B.Tech (Comp. Engg.)
The year 2010 brought to our college what the students were eagerly awaiting - companies looking to recruit
us! January was a busy month for all of us with trimester-end examinations and company aptitude tests
simultaneously looming upon us. Thankfully, it was a breeze for me; I was selected by the 1st ever company visit

The amount of work put in by our Placement Cell stood out - they had already made the t's we had to cross and
the i's we had to dot. The efforts put in by the Placement Cell have resulted in a vast majority of our first B.Tech.
batch being placed, something which we did not expect when the hue and cry of "recession" was wrecking
havoc among companies.
To sum it up - I'm a happy person with what the Placement Cell and the College has helped me achieve!
- Sameer Puri, B.Tech. (IT)
Being in the 1st batch of B.Tech here, I was apprehensive about how the placement procedure would go about.
Although NMIMS was a great name, the Placement Committee has had to work day and night to ensure our
placements.
The Placement Committee efficiently helped us in each step and was instrumental in ensuring that the whole
batch was placed.
They provided us guidance regarding the aptitude tests, and both HR and technical interviews. This helped me a
lot and I was placed in the very first company which came here.
To sum it all, the placement committee has done a comprehensive and commendable job.
- Dev Sharma, B.Tech. (Comp. Engg.)
