Most of us can quickly think of the important events of our lives but there is much more we do not remember without really concentrating. Those forgotten events or happenings are the ones that sometimes really matter in the overall picture of our lives. What does your last six months picture look like? As for the Chamber, many important things have happened. Some projects were completed, some still in process. Overall the picture is very pleasing only because you care and have put forth lots of effort. I commend and thank each one for everything you have contributed to the success of the Chamber. You are the glue that holds RACC together. We really enjoyed the picnic meeting at the Recreation Park on June 1st. The barbecue from Country Cuisine was delicious as well as all the good desserts. Thanks to Frankie Patterson, Danny Cook and the ladies who made the outing enjoyable. The Board of Directors had a work session on June 20th to discuss a proposal of needs for the Elk River Park reopening. Each member was assigned a specific area to gather information on, and meet again on July 25th to continue working on the proposal. I was invited to be a member of the CEDS (Comprehensive Economic Development Strategies) committee earlier this year and attended a meeting on June 26th at the NACOLG Regional office in Muscle Shoals. CEDS consists of representatives from five Northwest Alabama counties. Project priorities of the region were discussed and will continue after other local level public meetings are held. The economic development of the five county region was also discussed. When discussing BRACC with some of the persons attending, they feel Rogersville will definitely feel the impact. That means we have much work to do in the next few years. Monday, July 16th, 6:00p.m is work day at the park for the Bluegrass Festival. Your help is needed to do last minute details on the grounds and facilities. 1 I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Friday, July 13th, 8:00a.m. at the Masonic Lodge. Hardee’s will be providing the breakfast. This is the last meeting prior to the Bluegrass Festival on July 19-21st. The purpose for having “First Saturday Downtown” is to promote retail business and increase awareness of what Rogersville has to offer - plus promote a feeling of community and give opportunity for people to gain a level of comfort being downtown. The Cadillacs and Barry Green performed downtown. Several retail stores stayed open late (until 8:00 p.m.). Some have suggested that we stay open even later, possibly until 9 p.m. and that we try to have part of Lee Street closed to traffic. 1st Saturday (July 7th) Our own Morris Lentz, Bank Independent’s Rogersville Manager sang some of those old and dear country songs. The Community Choir from here in Rogersville did a 30-minute rendition of patriotic songs, and Jim Marlboro entertained us with music from the 50’s and 60’s of all kinds. Several people set up craft booths, including Janis Wells from Lexington, with her handmade jams and jellies, Sandy Bullion with her hand painted gourds, and several different booths of hand-made jewelry. Many of our shops were open for business with special sales and refreshments to keep everyone cool. “Thank You” to all of our entertainers 2 and to all the hard working merchants and chamber members who made another First Saturday possible. We’re looking forward to the First Saturday in August with much anticipation! More and more people are learning about our town, and we love getting to know new faces! Now that we’ve got two of our months behind us, the Retail Development Committee would like your input, suggestions, and opinions about what we’re doing and about how we can do an even better job. Remember this is for the entire town to help us become known and to help our businesses succeed. Please join us for the next Retail Development Committee meeting on Thursday, July 19, at 8:30 a.m. in the chamber office. We will be handing out a survey form at this Friday’s meeting and will have some in the chamber office for suggestions, comments, etc. Budget & Finance Committee Chairman: Bob Murray Members: Bama Clines, Shirley Chandler, Willie Kelley, Anita Roberson Committee News: Membership Committee Chairman: Frank Patterson Members: B.J.
