Critical Reagents Program (CRP)
Description: CRP products such as antibodies, select agent antigens, nucleic acid panels, Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) Immunoassays, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) assays, Hand Held Assays (HHAs), and Biological Sampling Kits are crucial to the mission of all current and future Department of Defense (DoD) Biological Warfare (BW) agent detection and medical diagnostic systems. As a supporting program of both Biological Defense detection and medical diagnostic systems and a provider of stand-alone detection products, the Critical Reagents Program supports the warfighter and the nation. Mission: Produce the highest quality detection and diagnostic assays and reagents as a national resource for the Department of Defense and the Biological Defense community Users: DoD and other agencies sponsored by DoD including Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Capabilities: ♦ Provide the highest quality detection and diagnostic assays ♦ Provide critical resources (raw ingredients used in building assays) for medical diagnostics Improvements over current system: ♦ The CRP is actively working with other federal agencies (CDC) to create a nationally accepted process for standardizing how reagents, tests and methods are validated and utilized. ♦ This will increase other agencies’ confidence in our ability to provide reliable information, and will enable the acceptance of new assays and platforms in a timely and quality controlled manner.
