        Foreword FOREWORD
     This book is practical. It will lead its reader through paths of history and other
puzzling analysis. It will even re-instate some legends as historical facts. This way,
Realism reinstates and strengthens the sreader's identity. It is with a clear notion of our
past that we can understand our present and further control the future. Especially there
will be deduced and described a salutary social conduct which provides our industrial
world with an essential form of management of its environment.
     Because deep are the issues in regard to ecology, industry of life, power of New
Technology, they meet what religions address. This is not something new. Religion and
knowledge are closely linked. The nature of Space was in religious domain before it
became astronomy; and it may someday belong again to Religion. Today, social control,
understanding and eventually science of Life make their independence from Churches.
Entrepreneurs develop rights and responsibility towards the social mind and the ecology.
Good collective memory and an accurate history become an understood necessity.
     With a new awareness of the past, and a tool for the present, this book describes,
explains and sometimes discloses the long lasting and influential movement, known as
Hermetism. In our present days, it is remembered as Alchemy. If we realize that, though
invisibly, it has not been interrupted but continued since the Renaissance, the 'magical'
outburst of Science that we witness will be able to greater awareness. A reconciliation
with ourselves and our past can follow, with updates of fundamental so-called Hermetic
practices - so that our modern 'Alchemy' can enjoy their benefice, their power and their
wisdom.

        Introduction

                 Christianity without Christ
     In another time from now, it is not irrelevant to think that there may be a situation
when descendants of Christians would be surprised if they hear about the name of Jesus
Christ. As a possibility, Christianity may become so abstract that, passing a turmoil phase
in our culture, it could continue into a universal and timeless spirituality, without need for
historicity. Actually this may not be pure fiction, for the real life of Jesus, as an historical
person has been many times questioned. Even recently, the 20th century has bred again
thinkers who find evidence in Archeology for denying that Jesus ever existed. As the
topic of this book is more oriented toward ecology and technology, I mention this
possibility regarding Christianity as a metaphor and in order to facilitate my point with a
comparison.
                 A Modern Age without Trismegistus
     In the Christian version, we can imagine someone visiting a Chruch and asking:
Brothers and Sisters! Have you ever heard about a presumed Jesus Christ? In the actual
version of my text, someone would enter a University, or a Hall for Technology, in a
nuclear power unit, a lab or a car industry and ask: Hi, Fellow Citizen and colleagues,
have you ever heard of Hermes Trismegistus? As in the first case the audience would
answer no, although they would have kept most of the Christian message and tradition, in
the second case, many would answer no, although they are involved in the very project of
Alchemy, whose Patron, Trismegistus, has been suddenly ignored when Science get
ignited.


                 A vague memory of a repressed chimera/figment
     The oblivion of Jesus by Christians is a fantasy, at the most it is just an hypothesis.
But scientists forgetting Trismegistus is a fact. It is actually intriguing. We feel quite
comfortable as we claim that we have lost interest in naive magic, yet, how shocked our
ideal consciousness would be, if we had to accept that anything should be banished from
our mind. In fact this is the case; four centuries ago the Renaissance imposed a violent
censorship that we would not think any more about Magic and magicians. Since then, we
are not free with our oblivion of Trismegistus.
     There is a trick part in repression, as we know: what is repressed, in some kind of
unconscious, remains active - even sometimes 'hyper-active'. Also, because of its
unawareness, such activity is basically out of control. Along with passionate effects in
form of a psychological repression, the ideologies in our modern time have combined
with a frenetic development of science. It looks very much like we have repressed the
awareness of some cause and nowaday claim that science is 'out of control'.

    &&
     Hermes, perhaps - it is a brand of fancy luggage - but 'Trismegistus'... many
amongst us would confess their ignorance. However, there is a group of well-read
eccentric, who would raise an eye-brow. They know very well about Trismegistus... They
know that it refers to an ancient legend which has been banished from our mind - when
What is it, that could be new, about this closed case? Would they reply to the question.


                 The facts, with no name, being there for the presence
     May be, it is just a maze of illusions. On the one side of the mirror, there is the
absent figure of Trismegistus, the Patron of Alchemy - that is magical interventions in
Nature - in a world where people drive cars made by robots, listen to computer, explore
the deepest space with probes and radar. The chemistry of Earth is manipulated, people
engineer their own balance, applying cybernetic laws on their chromosomes; Artificial
Intelligence is scanning collective thought, and History perfects its memory while
socialy, humanity improves with vision of individual right. All this, which began after
1600 AD represents exactly the prophecy and program of Trismegistus who has been
banished after 1600 AD.
     It is a remarkable coincidence. If his name was not repressed, we would certainly say
that Hermes Thoth Trismegistus; the Patron of Alchemy is still there!
                Scientific evidences of the forgotten fact
     There is a simple explanation for this situation. We do not need to remember our
parents, predecessors, forefathers etc... all we need is a clear access to the present.
     Unfortunately, the new science of Psychiatry explains that things may not work so
simply. A clear access to the present requires a clear resolution of the past. Anyone who
has been fooled on his origins will be deprived of any clear access to the present as long
as his history is not restored. This is probably one of the fundamental law which has been
disclosed during the 20th century in psychology; it can be compared in importance with
fundamental laws in astronomy centuries earlier. This may be as saddening as to realize
that we stick on Earth if we don't use motion machines, yet it is a hard fact. The same
way, we cannot penetrate the space of Present without memory procedures.
     Especially when an event, or name, has been artificially repressed, by violence or by
ruse, his recovery gives us freedom to act. This is the case with the Mentor of all Western
Science. We have to wonder why we never referred to him lately, when 'his' science
dramatically developed. Suffice to notice that the hardest scientists today acknowledge
that their researches and discoveries reach a point where it become 'magical', in their own
word.

     Indeed, restoring the memory of Trismegistus may have certain consequences and
open other doors which will keep his promise..: an intense clarification in many domains,
so that we will have the feeling that 'it is magical' !


       New Age and Hermetism

         Ancient and New ages

                The amazement of the recollection
     If we are looking for retrieving a memory, and if we are expecting results and
consequences, we must also be aware that such remembering does no go without
confusion. Let us be aware of another psychological fact: when a repressed memory is
released our Psyche reacts is various ways, in some case with depression, in other with
anger or anxiety. Our narcissistic well-being feels ashamed when it faces something
simple and well-known that was ignored. There may be also other tensions which may be
triggered. In order to avoid these obstacles, the use of metaphor along the delicate
unfolding is a custom, so that the puzzling recovery can be achieved.
     After the Hermetic comparison with a Christian fiction, I shall continue there with
another image, as we approach more in depth Trismegistus mystery.



                The metaphor of stoping breathing
     If memory is like acting, what do we do when we make a decision and aim to a goal
- for example, rushing for a 100m race when one has decided to win? Once the run has
started, we don't think back; we focus on all the strength we can put in. There is another
example, if memory is like breathing: when we swim through a water siphon, we want to
stop breathing for a while. In this case, a suspension of memory, a temporary oblivion,
perhaps even a repression, is coherent with the project for reaching and achieving certain
goals with success.
                 The episodes of suspension and resuming of memory
     Suspension of certain memories may be required for an action. This so true that some
specialists consider that when we wake up in the morning, we stop remembering - for the
sleep, and dreams, are memory in essence; in counterpart, busy daylight activity cannot
offer too much thinking about the past. It is also true that we need to sleep, so the water
siphon metaphor will help in underlying an essential point: after having swam under the
water - when we reach the other side, all would be lost if we were not starting breathing
again.
                 A well balanced coherence
      If we think of this, we may consider how important for the whole industrial process
it is, to recover the memory of its cause at a certain point. We can appreciate that the loss
of memory about Trismegistus is coherent; until a point when this coherence flip into its
opposite: it is the moment for taking a good breath. Likewise, when Alchemy is reaching
its goal, it is the moment for recovering a good memory.
      This book will show that the method for this was called The Art of Memory. It also
begins in presenting the result of this 'Art' as some years ago, it has disclosed the
presence of Trismegistus and his goal.


                 The dizziness in the present time
     During the European Middle-Ages, Hermes Thoth Trismegistus, was the name of the
Founder of Alchemy. In our modern day we would say: the Patron of Science and
Technology. The influence of Alchemy on Nature, on the Psyche, and on the Culture as
well, was called Magic. At a certain point, during the Renaissance (1450-1650AD) Magic
became something bad. It was banished. Seemingly starting from scratch a Science
started and progressed. Now that we have reach a certain achievement of this science, we
get dizzy, things look strange: pollution of air and waters, global warming; nice kids and
nice politicians yet we know that robots and Artificial Intelligence are close to be able to
decide which future for planet Earth, if not which genetic for humankind. Beautiful music
and movies, yet not much grace and knowledge. We know hundred of brain drugs that we
don't use, our food is loaded with thousand of chemicals that we don't really want.
Actually this dizziness sometimes looks like if we are simply dying.
     If we remember that we were crossing a memory suspension, like stopping breathing
under a siphon, it seems that we have reaches the other side. Our dizziness may indicate
that it is time for breathing again, as well as remembering how all this began and why we
are there.


                 We resume breathing as we knew it before
    We are not born with the Renaissance. Our ancestors were very advanced. They were
speaking other languages than our, and describing Time-Space, Consciousness, Quantum
physics and information Code. They even knew that certain losses of memory can
achieve great projects.
     What is the sense of being there again, standing on our feet with the tools of all
powers of nature in our hands, if it is without understanding how closely related this is to
our Alchemists predecessors? If we don't recover our memory - and ourselves in fact - we
shall extinct and die, because we will not 'breath'. On the contrary, we can remember and
bring the short period of recent hard science in reconciliation with thousands years of
preparation, meditation and 'magical' planing. There we shall possibly survive and carry
on with success our technical progress.
     If we want to know what humankind has to do, we shall find the information in the
ancient project of Alchemy



    This book will help you to do this. It explains how and why we had to forget,
temporarily. It describes how some parties, amongst us, are still in spasm of repression. It
recovers a project for civilization, which spans not only the human society, but also its
environment, Earth, along with life within ourselves. It alleviates the sudden feeling of
dizziness and ecological dereliction which strikes our society in empowerment. It restores
coherence in our desire.

          1 - Hermes Trismegistus
     In the Temple of Thebes, deep inside the heart of Ancient Egypt, when Rome and
Alexandria were fighting for the possession of the Mediterranean Sea, alchemist's
cauldron and furnace were arranged for creating new forms of life, transformed human,
souls and spirits. It was certainly not new.
     Later on, the same practices continued, when Rome had won the domination upon all
Egyptian lands, in Memphis, in Alexandria. Most of these activities were now attributed
to Hermes Trismegistus whose reputation was beginning to include philosophical and
spiritual texts along with the science of matter.

    Hermes was a Greek name. It had been imported when Athens had crumbled yet
expanded, like a star in its final phases. After Alexander the Great, the spirit of Athens
had move, starting from Macedonia and covering Egypt. From Alexandria, the city of
Alexander, his Greek successors, the Ptolemeans, reigned during four centuries before
Christianity. This is why, when the Roman defeated Cleopatra, the last Ptolemean, they
discovered the Egyptian Alchemy after a Patron whose name was Greek.
    This is also why the Fathers, of the early Christian Church, referred to the wise man
Trismegistus who had provided to the World, most of its natural, psychological and
sociological knowledge.

     Although we are here speaking about ancient times in civilization, as well as there is
a continuity from Alchemy to our present Science, this homogeneity goes back even
further. Therefore the motive in The Renaissance which repressed the acknowledgement
of Trismegistus' patronage, is found identical to earlier debates. His books and teaching
were sometimes burnt in Alexandria. Sometime his followers, as Hypatia, the daughter of
the Hermetist Theon, were persecuted and martyred by other kind of Hermetists.
Repression and misunderstanding have paved the path of the memory of this Egyptian
magician who was bearing a Greek name. In order to avoid confusion for ourselves, we
must then descend even earlier in the past of this still present and vital tradition.

          The historicity of T3 and its oblivion
     When the Greek Macedonians and Ptolemeans moved Athens in Alexandria, they
imported Hermes and other gods, but also conquiered the Egyptian territory where they
dispatched their temples and schools. Regarding Hermes, they chosed a city which was
called at that time the City of the Eight, supposedly meaning the City of the Eight Gods.
In fact, the place was especially devoted to one of the Egyptian gods, namely Thoth.
     The cult of Thoth was so important there, that already at that time, it is probable that
the 'eight' were repressing or denying his unique figure. In fact, the Ptolemeans who built
Hermopolis Magna - the Great City of Hermes - on this site, deliberately altered the pure
name of Hermes. They were worshipping the god there, under the name of Hermes-
Thoth. This is why later, when it became also Trismegistus with the Roman conquest, his
full name was Hermes-Thoth-Trismegistus, or Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus.
     Is it any better understanding once we have dive so deep in the past to follow the
thread of our Alchemy? Not yet, for we must descend even deeper - prior to the City of
the Eight. For there was another city even earlier at this place, and there, we probably
find the key of our quest. Centuries prior to the City of the Eight, the area had been the
site for a most remarkable episode in Egyptian history. A city had been built there, that
bore the name of his founder; and it had been the place for an extraordinary experiment.
     We are speaking about a very ancient time, more than one thousand years before the
Christian Era. It was a time when the pharaonic power was still typical. Especially if held
a secret knowledge and a system of hieroglyphic writing which was limiting most of the
science and knowledge to a very narrow band of the population. During the experience I
refer to, prior to the City of the Eight, during a brief instant in Egyptian history and on
this site, the delivery of all knowledge to the inhabitants had been attempted and
experienced. Egyptology has found the trace of this experiment and the devastating
controversy that it inflamed. We may look at it later in further details.
     For the moment, what is important, is to notice the link between this political episode
- with the repression conspiracy which followed - and the meaning of Thoth, as the god
who delivers the art of writing, and the knowledge of science to human kind. Therefore,
we have found the root, of a initial delivery of Science as well as its controversial effect
of repression. It is the moment for a recap, revisiting the historical development in the
other way, from the most ancient up to the present time:

     More than a millenium BC, the sacred egyptian knowledge of representation, writing
and technologies, was released for the people, according to the legendary role of Thoth.
Beside the fact that his endeavor was also carried along with a revelutionary monotheism,
after its repression, the site was destroyed and resettled with a city which specifically
honored Eight gods. Again, official knowledge was isolated and limited in secret schools.
Centuries later, when the Ptolemeans occupied Egypt, they imported their Greek gods
and instated Hermes in this place that they renamed Great City of Hermes (Hermopolis
Magna). In this new temple they named the god with his two names Thoth-Hermes,
which both indicate a transmission of knowledge. However, the education policy and the
political structure of science remained enclosed in expert communities. When it was their
turn for the Ptolemeans to be conquered by the Romans - Hermopolis Magna felt in
decay but Thoth-Hermes remained in the memories and acquired a thrid name; he was
now Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus.

            Astrologist and Alchimist - ALIAS Father of the Church & Alchemist
     It is in this period of time when Christianity also began, that the primal conflict
which had stroke the experience of Thoth, between (Popular and Institutional knowledge)
re-emerged in a new form. This remarkable dispute at the forefront of the present religion
of Christ carries precious information for the understanding of our own repression in the
20th century.
     Quite immediately after the Roman victory was acquired over Alexandria, by
apparent coincidence, Jesus Christ was born in the Middle East. Actually, the coincidence
is so striking that it has often made scholars suspicious that Christianity was a forgery
built up by Rome, as soon the Mediterranean was conquered, in order to secure its control
with a new religion over the immense territory. As seducing this hypothesis can be, it
does not logically prevail on the opposite. This coincidence may show as well that a
strong spiritual power was made available on the Mediterranean, as soon as it was
unified, in order to infuse it with the potential of a progressive human kind.
     Whatever the truth is of theses two cases, they added with the enigma of
Trismegistus in fact. The legendary Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus seemed to have spurred
and spread from the falling Hermopolis Magna, with the same increase that Greece had
shown with the decay of Athens. During the first centuries of Christianity, the cult of
Trismegistus was active all over the Middle East. As it was wise, profound, practical and
philosophical, it was necessarily holding the comparison with the extremely humanist
message of the Christians.
     Current studies show that, while it was rapidly disseminating in the Roman Empire,
Trismegistus' Hermetism was not reserved to an intellectual milieu. Actually, it expanded
very much in parallel or like Christianity. With such similarities, in morality and
popularity, the two doctrines could not avoid the political intervention; the alternative
Christian-or-not-Christian was crossed with that of Hermetism, as Pagan-or-Religious.
     It is remarkable that Christianity showed a special interest for gathering in its own
bosom, the values of Trismegistus. Once again, a suspicious mind may easily see there a
greedy scheme for rallying pools and partisans. But we shall gradually disclose in further
paragraphs how relevant was the debate, in regards to a fundamental data, which even
gives substance to Christianity. Indeed it was a complex issue. We shall see that
Hermetism was a necessity for Christianity, yet, at the same time it was denouncing the
corrupt, and even conspiracy form, that Christianity bore for its expansion, which was
going to cover the planet, as we know today. An event which happened during these early
century, in the now-Roman Alexandria, is typical and illustrates well this logical maze:

    It was a few years after the violent and eccentric Roman Emperor Constantine had
made Christianity the state religion, that the effects of the new policy reached the
colonialized Alexandria. Many Christian community were already flourishing here, as
well as Hermetism. A most representative scholar of the later had been Theon who, along
with others like Hermias, was linking Hermes with Orpheus. Theon's doctrine referred to
an earlier Emperor, Julian, who had been one of Hermes's leading spiritual disciples.
Resulting from the new order of Constantine, most of the Library of Alexandria was
destroyed, and Theon's successor, his daughter Hypatia, was savagely murdered. The
association with Trismegistus, Plato, the magic of Orpheus, their mathematics and
astrology were banished.
     The striking point in this affair was the fact that the attack was led by a bishop Cyril,
who had extensively studied and written about Hermetism. History shows that most of his
work was used later when Trismegistus was seen as a prophet of Christ.
     In promoting the idea that the ancient Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus had foretold the
Christian revelation, the early bishops and Fathers of the Church were certainly excellent
politicians. Instead of repressing Hermetism all at once, they only attacked part of the
movement which could be associated with paganism, and they emphasized themselves
the monotheist aspect of Trismegistus' philosophy. In order to make the distinction clear,
instead of his association with pagan Magic and Greece, for the young Christian Church,
Trismegistus was the founder of Monotheism and eventually became associated with
Moses.


     As we can see it now, Trismegistus served as bargaining chip between Christians and
non-Christians worlds. We can understand deeper the complex debate. The alternative for
the fundamental identity of our civilization is also made more complete: if Christianity
was an invention for antique mass-control, one must now ask what was Hermetism; for if
Hermetism was a true philosophy, it has re-humanized the Roman conspiracy. Also on
the opposite thesis, if Christianity was a true salvation given on Earth, we must consider
that a 'real' Hermetism was rescued along in the same movement.
     If this may be sufficient for a useful meditation on a crisscross logic, it noticeably
helds another connection with the topic of Science

     It is in the internal tensions of the Hermetic community itself that we gather a
complementary set of information. There is a famous controversy between the earliest
historical figure known in the development of Alchemy, Zosimus and Theosebia, who
was among the most influential proselyte of this practice in their day. Zosimus was
openly criticizing his 'sister' for she had founded closed communities which were keeping
her knowledge of Alchemy 'apart from the multitude'. For Theosebia, their science could
only be transmitted in secret; on the opposite Zosimus was thinking that everybody
should possess a book of chemistry.
     We find again the early conflict which originated the first repression, and its
correlative conspiracy which had stroke the early manifestation of Thoth. It shows that
Hermetism is dealing in essence with the two degrees of knowledge, which begins with
the simple difficulty to transmit and understand the description sometimes complex of
the laws of Nature. Hermetism was also implying and involved with the second degree
which concerns power. For this reason, another important question in this doctrine was to
know whether the teaching was to be given by a master to a pupil, or if study, exercise
and eventually revelation was the appropriate way for perpetuating the knowledge.

   On these question of secret and power over scientific knowledge, the severing of
Hermetism by the early inquisition of Alexandria may shed some light. For Christianity
cannot be held for imposing a secret on the knowledge that Alchemy claimed. As the
genuine science of the natural laws, Alchemy was equivalent to what we call science. It is
indisputable that the Christian Era mark the moment when civilization gives up with a
tradition of secret teachings. In Egypt, and in Greece, prior to the Roman Empire,
Temples and Schools where all governed by the principle of secret. If this is seen
continuing in the posterior centuries until now, it has been the fact of sects which were
dissociated from the Christian official policy. And if it appear sometime that the Church
has claim rights on the scientific knowledge, as it is well known when the Vatican
opposed the enlightenment of the Renaissance, it was whatsoever a dysfunction in the
overall manifestation of this institution. After all, even if the Christians institution of
Cyril and others had obviously taken the Zosimus option of independance and open
distribution of scientific knowledge, it may not have prevented it to succumb to the
conspiracy option. Therefore we should not consider the authority that the Church has
manifested upon the knowledge of Alchemy, chemistry and other manipulation of forces,
as being at its core principle, but the opposite.


    It is with this corpus of memories from our past that we have to understand the
present state of our mind, when we must face with our historians, the fact that recently,
we have intriguingly forgotten all of the Trismegistus presence within our rush with
science and technology.



    Secret


    To conclude - it appears as the issue of Science and politics.

    makesHermetism was then severed into either a pagan identity - Trismegistus the
Alchemist - or a religious one - Trismegistus the deliverer of Monotheism.
    Trismegistus means "Triple Master" - yet sometime said Thrice Born, or Thrice
Great, 'megistus' however means with no doubt 'magister', which means master in latin.
He was also a magician, a magus, as were the true 'masters' in the past.

    Our Science has develop,
    Apparently blindly;
    We need to reposses it with the eyes
    Of the alchemist that we have forgotten

             The Western rejection
    To summarize our recollection, we have firstly notice that, during a short
period of time, since the Renaissance, we had dramatically develop a scientific
activity, while we forgot its origins at the same time. In our attempt to retrieving the
thread of the repressed Trismegistus, patron of Sciences and/or Alchemy, we
investigated farther deep in History where we found that its first manifestation -
Thoth - has originally been repressed likewise. Then, in observing an intermediary
phase along this path of knowledge and repression, we could detect a link with the
political organization of power in human kind.
     A graph may illustrate this process on its time-scale:

     With this baggage of information we can come again to examining our present time
and begin to perfect our consciousness. It is the moment for emphasizing what is the
actual question about Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus for our present time.

    As evoked earlier, we experiment a feeling of dizziness in our present time, when we
contemplate the activity of technology over our planet and our ability for controlling it.
We know that the situation is dangerous and, that amongst the billions of billions of
similar living solar systems, we may be amongst the many who just die on the road.
Considering the probability that we may survive, with an anxious and dim state of mind,
we understand that an important part of the environment and life will be sustained and
controlled by machines and Artificial Intelligence. But we still wonder about our leaders
and their role. We can say that none of them seems especially competent for healing in
depth what we see of life on Earth. Thirdly, we also ask about ourselves. What is our
position in this system on which we depend?

     If the 'repressed object' - Trismegistus in this case - indicates what is the key - as it is
usually its function - then we can simply translate that the kernel of the present challenge
is in the function and management of knowledge. The Spirits of Ideologies are no longer
the dominant issues in our societies which have reached very practical issues of biology
(chemistry, mechanics, genetics, ecology etc...). The overall question in our days is
Science. As our civilization practices it also typically a Collective Knowledge. The
repression of Trismegistus and all his anterior path of evolution indicates and confirm
this. The fate and future of life on Earth depends on the function of a Science which is
Collective Knowledge. This is what is understood and verified when we look at the
general organization of our education and University and general research system. It is
also what has been confirmed when we have identified the character of Christianity after
its option for Hermetism.
     At a personal level we are thus informed that our responsibility in the earthly
challenge for life is in our participation in the collective knowledge of science. However,
if we make this step, we know that the second one reaches its corollary, which is the
democratic organization of state which depends on the same 'collective knowledge'. It is
also why this reveled issue for human kind has always be linked with religion. For either
we address these overwhelming questions, either we pray.

     We may take a little time for praying. But after a while, some of us feel to coming
back for tackling the task. If we are willing to contribute our part in the practical
understanding of the position of science and knowledge in our collective fate, we are
interested in the first place in knowing that a long tradition of repression assails the cause
of this path. We even realize that 'we ignored that we ignored' - which is the typical sign
of Repression. Becoming twice interested when learning that we are actually actors in a
phase of such repression, we want to investigate what exactly we have been deprived of.
              The nature and the form of the Repression (how we ignored that we were ignoring)

      As a first observation when a causal part of our memory is missing, we are deprived
of ourselves. This truism is historically materialized. In the case of the cause, initiation,
of Science, an entire generation of people in the Western Society, by the end of this 20th
century, has stubbornly repudiated its own original past. The sixties up to the eighties
have been the dawn for a mass awareness regarding Ecology. Large movements have
realized with horror the situation, and have communicate the same feeling towards the
typical Western tradition. Middle-Ages, the Church, even the Renaissance or earlier,
perhaps even Christianity have been considered responsible for the foreseeable
catastrophe. History, Alchemy, Religion, all at once have been rejected and blamed for
being responsible for the havoc which is looming on Earth.
      The result of theses years of guilt has often rigidify what remains of Christianity in
certain areas. In a remarkable qui-pro-quo, Psychoanalysis has been included in the
shrinking anti-life picture, though it has certainly been the best doctrine for explaining the
mechanism of depression which manifested there.
      There is no need for being provocative in reminding the classic murder-of-the-father
compulsion along the phases of maturing Psyche. The simple analysis of Narcissism and
how it is sublimated through self-depreciation describes enough the mass behavior when
it discover that its wonderful arrogance leads him to a pitiful death.

     It is in the nineties, that the Western mass behavior has realized that blaming our past
does not help much. As the passion have decrease, we have a better look for realizing
that, typically, the rejection had repressed the whole package of our traditional history, It
is opportune for asking the question: admitting that it was necessary to repress the
Western View of the world, what did we do with what was repressed in the repressed?
     The question looks like a pun, which allude to the negative of the negative which
results into a positive. Indeed, this is it. When frenetically or in some state of panic, the
people of the Industrial Society have blamed the Western History, they did not look
closely that this History that they were rejecting had itself rejected an essential matter. To
say it in its precise form: the Renaissance ended with a harsh repression of any reference
to Trismegistus; consequently the idea of throwing the baby with the water of the tub is
especially appropriate when rejecting the Renaissance and all that has a Western taste.
     In fact, if the generation of the sixties-eighties, now looks at it twice it will discover
that Trismegistus and his Art of Magic upon Nature is exactly the spirit which carries the
needed reason for ecology which seemed to lack in the modern Science.

      We are now well informed that attaching back a head to the uncontrolled body of
Science and technology, may be the way for, individually as well as collectively,
restoring the aim of the tremendous forces that are now wildly unleashed over the planet.
Of course, this huge effect that could result from reinstating Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus
in its correct memory place, is just an hypothesis. However it is so logical and possibly so
important, that it may be worth to examine in depth the validity of this guess.

     We have repressed the whole package - but what of the repressed in the repressed?

    But after this instant, we must get looking at the curve!

    What will happen then, when we rediscover what was Science before it had been
blinded?

          The Historicity of our origins
     How are we going to begin our investigation deeper on the basis that Thoth-Hermes-
Trismegistus has been wrongfully repressed, with the result that Science behaved as a
child without identity? As it is the case in the search for parentality, one first investigate
the name, then the biology of the possible ascendant(s). It is strikingly similar with our
civilization case. Noticeably we may still wonder what is this compound, seemingly
made of Egyptian, Greek and Latin references? Especially we would need to stress what
the Greek god Hermes, which is designating a messenger yet also a traveler, is meant for,
in this combination. Second, we will have to evaluate what kind of reality we should
consider regarding this entity who was worshiped as a 'God', yet also soundly affirmed by
the majority of the Hermetists for having being an historical, living and human character
in the very ancient past.
     We shall begin with the first examination, remembering that the relationship with
Greece, especialy with Orpheus, was one of the particularity which was bothering the
Alexandrian bishop of the Early Christianity. There is some reason to suspect that a
meaningful material can be disclosed there.

            The Historicity (Hermon etc) EXCERPT
     The following paragraphs are modified excerpts from an essay which was based on
the simple collect of from the famous Encyclopedia Britanica, of the items which append
to 'Herm..'. The method and the experience have proven being especially fruitful,
although it deciphers something that the Encyclopedia itself was not claiming to mean. It
is a very good example of how the knowledge about the repressed Hermetism subsist -
actually in the most obvious forms. We shall comment further on this interesting aspect
which is known, in a certain discourse, as a mode of expression of the Unconscious, and
that it is possible to relate more commonly to the way memory proceed, often hidden in
the obvious, and how it supports the validity of certain lore as the modern New Age.



              The historical origins and political meaning of Hermes :
     Hermes, Apollo and Orpheus are Greek divinities which were often associated.
Among their common gifts was the invention of the cithara or the lyre. It is a musical
instrument which achieves Harmony (ensemble of notes, tuned together), in comparison
with the Melody (series of notes, organized one by one) which was played by the flute.
The functional representation of these icons were psychological of political. For instance,
the lyre honored the achievement of political union between cities, people, or languages.

    Since it applied later to an Egyptian god, Hermes raises especially the question:
Where does this name come from, and what does it mean? Linguists agree together that
the word comes from 'herma' or 'herm' which indicates a heap of stones, a stack which
serves as a landmark, the sign of a frontier or sometimes a ballast. However this is very
surprising, for this god Hermes is known to be mobile, swift and rapid, messenger and
dynamic; he was later the Mercury of the Roman, and designates the most mobile
luminaries in the sky.
    Since the divine names include a signification within their signification, since
Hermes the traveler Messenger bears the name of what the heaviest, inert and immutable,
a limit and an obstacle against communication, one expects that, in reality or when he is
incarnated, he will assume a paradox in history.

     First, we begin with asking ourselves: Is there a mount, a stack of stone and a
landmark which would relate with the linguistic clue in the geographical area of the
Hermetic influence?
     Tradition and Academic knowledge teach that the Hermes' birth place is Mount
Cyllene indeed, the highest mountain of Arcadia (Peloponese) - yet an associative
awareness thinking of travelling paradoxically stops not far from Greece, where another
highest mount stands. At the frontier, between ancient Hittites (pre-Greece) and Palestine,
the summit of this mountainous area is called Mount Hermon.
     Not only the linguistic coincidence, between Hermes and Hermon, cannot be
ignored, moreover, the nickname of this mountain is remarkable; it is popularly known as
The Forbidden Place - in other words, the Place of the Hidden, the Place of the
Repression. It is especially interesting, for Knowledge teaches that what is forbidden -
repressed - typically emerges at some place nearby, always associated with a charge of
paradox. Definitely, we find there an appropriate place for the origin of the Traveller
Hermes, messenger of Knowledge with his inert name.
     This possibility is even reinforced with the fact that Mount Hermon is a typical
esoteric Landmark. There is also a legend which is associated to the 'Forbidden' Mount
Hermon; it is renowned as the northwestern limit of Israelite conquest in Moses' and
Joshua's times. We understand that it is the landmark, the herma, which designates the
place where Moses stops... and where begins the forbidden expression of his Greek
influence.

     With this geographical site, we find the place of transition and repression, which
converges with the observation of the Christianization of Alexandria that is mentioned
above. We remember that between Theon's pagan doctrine and the bishop Cyril, the
conflict was the relationship of Trismegistus either with the Greek Orpheus or with the
Israelite Moses. Politics was there well paralleled with the legend.

     In order to assert the validity and to decipher these delicate associations, we continue
further our investigation.

     Once the frontier between the two areas of Aegean and Arab influences, has
disclosed the symbolic landmark of the repressive distinction between Moses and
Hermes, Orpheus, Hermes, the Solar Apollo, even Oedipus etc... we continue to follow
the Encyclopedia Britanica. The next item indicates, further South, in Africa near Thebes,
a royal city ('House') named Hermonthis. Around 2,000 B.C. a certain tradition of
pharaos were usually crowned there. These kings issued from Hermonthis were
especially active in processes of unification, that they applied to the Egyptian provinces
('Nomes') after a preceding period of divisions. The Encyclopedia also mentions that
Hermonthis was devoted to a Solar cult.
     This later characteristic continue to intensify a relationship with the previous herma,
Hermes, Hermon and Moses, for the Solar cult is evidently associated with Apollo, and
also with Monotheism, since the concept of the sun enables an harmonious integration of
the planets in one sole system.

     All these associative data definitely solidify into an historical evidence when we add
a series of events which took place later, in 1,200 B.C. At that moment, a project of the
18th Dynasty for a large geographical union, based on an unifying solar monocentrism,
was issued from Thebes, and thus necessarily linked to the previous form of Hermonthis.
In the 1,200 B.C. experience, the solar god was then named Aton. For some reason, the
capital for its application could not be Thebes, and the royalty decided to move North and
to settle at the very place that we have found earlier, when we was following backward
the origins of Trismegistus.
     The Hermonthis unification project, in its 1,200 B.C. application, settled the base
which was later associated with Thoth at the foundation of Trismegistus' Hermetic
enterprise. It is the moment to give a name to this city which became, later the City of the
Eight, and later Hermopolis Magna. In 1.200 B.C., it was built under the name of
Akhtaton, known toady as Amarna, near the contemporary Assiout.
     The founder of this city, named himself Akhnaton, certainly intended to unify Egypt
with the isthmus of the Eurasian-African junction (Sinai, Palestine, Syria, even
Babylonia), and probably up to include the territory of the not-yet-born Greece which
was principally dominated by Crete and the Hittite Kingdom (contemporary Turkey).

     As Egyptology discovers today some striking relationship between Akhnaton and
Moses, as well as with Orpheus, we obtain the complete construct of the Greek Hermes
signification. At one point it started with Hermonthis (2,000 B.C.), then developed with
Amarna and Akhnaton when a structure of a repressed association between Moses and
Hermes/Orpheus, marked at Mount Hermon. In Amarna itself the memory continued as
the place for Thoth, covered by the City of Eight, which eventually gave place to
Hermopolis Magna. The association of the names Thoth-Hermes is, therefore, explained
and found legitimate.


     Now that we have restored the substance of the name for a better identification of
Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus, we can seek for our second requirement - that is the
historical, biological or purely abstract and conceptual aspect of his origins. We have
already advance in this field, for the recently discovered character of Akhnaton
immediately calls for our attention

    We discover that what has been repressed has been a founder and a messenger

     The only legitimacy of the repression was that this figure was a forgery without
historicity.

            The biology of the origins
     This book began with the fiction of the abandon by the Christian Church of the belief
in Jesus Christ, as an historical being. This very rejection happened with Trismegistus in
fact. I have described at length how the reference to Thoth-Hermes-Trismegistus had
been a long path of many phases of repression and oblivion. Trismegistus had always
been regarded as a man who had certainly existed, and typically practiced Magic, until
the last episode, and the most radical discharge of his doctrine and memory. It happened
during the end of the Renaissance, when the Vatican with the Inquisition declared that all
this legend was a forgery, and that Trismegistus had never existed. As we know now, it
has been the beginning of our state of mind regarding Science and its foundation, from
this period in 1600 A.D., until the largest part of the 20th Century.

     It is remarkable that such ostracism was imposed by a Christian Chruch, as we know
of the effort of several early Fathers for putting him at one of the highest rank in the
series of the founders and prophets. As a matter of fact, if during the first centuries of
Christianity, Trismegistus played an important role, it noticeably rapidly lost the favor of
the dogma. After the Fifth Century, the Roman Church was making hardly mention of
him.
     The reason for this apparent decline may be that Hermetism could not hold tightly to
a spiritual system which was rapidly becoming administrative and corrupted. Its essence,
for instance, of free learning and popular diffusion of any knowledge - which had been
the mobile for its Christian integration against the use of secrecy of the pagan
Alexandrians - had become cumbersome for the Roman Chruch when it began at its turn
to make similar use of power and abuse with people's easy credibility and superstition.
Swiftly, Hermetism has regain its independance, and from the Sixth century, then all
along the Middle Ages, it evolved in parallel, as slowly as the Chruch itself.
     During theses centuries of slow maturation of Europe, Hermetism was then
transmitted as the Science of Nature (Natural Magic), of psychology (Celestial Magic)
and sociology (Ceremonial Magic). Europe was poor and archaic. There was not an
intense 'demand' for this elaborated and practical knowledge, as it had been the case in
the periods of opulence in Greece, Egypt, and Rome. Nevertheless, when the Renaissance
began, Hermetism was established enough for being sometime considered as the fourth
Monotheism, beside Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
     It is at this moment that the Vatican destroyed its reference. There is certainly one of
the most interesting analysis to do of the motive of the Roman Church for suppressing so
violently this chapter of Her own story. At that point of our disclosure, we can observe
what was at least its alibi. The foremost of the attack was the physical historicity of the
legendary King of Egypt, Hermes-Thoth-Trismegistus. The characteristics and beliefs of
his doctrine were secondary - the shame which ruined the hermetic reputation was that its
founder had never existed.
     This is how the 'way' of Hermes continued and developed as the dazzling science of
the modern age, with its intense devotion for realism. It is understandable that the
'unrealistic' reference to an Egyptian Monotheist king was totally ignored then.
     But, had Trismegistus really been an invention? This is where the science
Egyptology may give an ironic answer today.

             Presence of Akhnaton.
     With much more information that what was available when the Renaissance began to
claim for objectivity and realism, History and Egyptology, today show clearly that
Hermetism issued from Hermopolis Magna and previous events which stood on this site.
Especially, around 1900 A.D., the discovery of Amarna was made, as of the anterior
settlement which occupied this area. As explained earlier, it had been the base for the
Hermonthis' policy which had moved from Thebes. It is then especially interesting to
notice that a noteworthy character operated there. He calls for our attention if we are
seeking for clues regarding the biological historical fact that may have ground the Spirit
of Hermetism at the beginning of our civilization.

      At the root of Hermetism, the legend claimed that Thoth-Hermes has founded a city
that bore his name. This is adequate for the case of Amarna, named Akhtaton, from the
name of his founder an monarch, Akhnaton. Even during the Renaissance, the Hermetic
data was stating that Trismegistus had founded a city refered as Adocentyn - from the
semantic association Adonis-Adon-Aton - where the first and founder of the Monotheist
religion was worshipping the real natural sun for its role on the ecosystem. This is exactly
fitting the recent information regarding Akhnaton.
      The irony in this discovery is that Science, with its passion for objectivity, has
apparently objectified the historical being that it had first disregarded, in the name of
Objectivity. It is similar to the fate of Oedipus who rejected the idea of incest so well that
he ended in discovering that this is what he was committing with ignorance.

     To get well assured that Akhnaton was in fact the real person who was designated by
the name 'Trismegistus', there is a plethora of adding arguments. One of them is the
attribution that history gave him for the quality of Thoth. There is a first clue with the
important pharaohs of Akhnaton's dynasty, who preceded him as Thothmoses, the first,
the second etc... Especially Thothmoses the third seems to have influenced in a decisive
way a project that Akhnaton, later, attempted to complete. This chronological evidence is
not the only clue.
     Beside his political endeavor for unifying the many cities-temples of his time in one
sole state under the Sun, Akhnaton instituted his association with Thoth on the base of the
opening that he ordered for knowledge. Under his short reign, and before his repression,
he was terminating the official cult of Amon, which was based on secret and in closed
temples. He contradicted this traditional form of government in worshipping ostensibly in
open air plazas. As a simple knowledge of scientific clarity, his edicts were also publicly
accessible as they can be found today on the clay and other tablets which remains the
vestiges of his endeavor.
     Eventually, his very congruence to Thoth figure, as the one who by the Art of
Writing gives access to knowledge, can be found in one of the most intriguing conjecture
that the 20th century concludes with. After several decades of a sort of stupefaction
following his Egyptological discovery, historian must address the evidence of a very
striking closeness between Akhnaton's project and Moses achievement. I shall go later,
further in detail through Akhnaton's mosaic of names. At the present point a clear
condense of this riddle will be understood if we imagine that, with a diverting play on
'Thothmoses' - the name of his fore-predecessor, Akhnaton's trace in history can be found
through Thoth in Egypt - in Amarna - as well as Moses, out of Egypt - in the Sinai. In this

look at Moses, giving to the Hebrew people the Tables of the Law - meaning, of course,

     There is thus no doubts that the pharaoh Akhnaton as scientifically discovered during
the 20th century shows a powerful coincidence with the repressed figure in the 16th
century, of Trismegistus, which impressed its form in the esoteric fabric of the Magical
Hermetism.
     There are other arguments. To appreciate and develop them, it is useful to complete
the simple desciption of Akhnaton alone, as a first Egyptological outlook depicts him.


              The pharaoh Akhnaton
     Akhnaton was born when the unification of Egypt, followed by its expansion was at
its utmost acheivement. Egypt had spread North as far as the actual border of Turkey -
that is even a little beyond Mont Hermon that has been mentioned earlier. It included
some states of Babylon's weakened Empire as for instance the well known Mitani.
Akhnaton's father was consequently the wealthiest pharaoh in all the ancient history of
Egypt.
     As we know, Egyptology began in Napoleon's time, when Champollion began to
decipher the hieroglyphic writing, in the wake of Napoleon's expedition in Egypt. During
the entire 19th century which followed, all the great pharaohs that we know today, have
been re-discovered and repertoried - except for one of them, namely Akhnaton. This by
itself is a suggestive clue. For soon after its discovery, with that of his city also, scientist
understood the reason for this delay.
     At the difference with any other known pharaohs, Akhnaton had been radically
deleted from the Egyptian memory and from the list of the Kings which has been
otherwise well kept by the Egyptian historians. Only a few late commentators in the
Ptolemean Era made allusions to a enigmatic character that we can now recognize as
being this ostracized king. Isn't it strange and remarkable? Let's imagine the 'King of the
World' today, who would reign over most of the five continents; let's suppose that he has
a son who succeeds him when he dies, and reign for a certain period of time. He
consequently imprint as a figure millions of people and numerous records, especially if -
adding to this fiction - he would have promulgate tremendous range of reforms all over
his Empire and colonies; this is exactly what Akhnaton has done.
     Let's imagine now that only several decades - one human life generation - nobody
would have remembered him. Then again, this is exactly what happened to Akhnaton. It
is clear that something absolutely extraordinary would have happen in this circumstance -
at least a hardly conceivable shock in the historical memory of a conscious civilization.
Well..! It is exactly what seems to have happened in Egypt at that time. It is so
remarkable that many historians do not hesitate that it was nothing but a real start for
Cilivization, or Monotheism, according to their preference. In this prospect, many
Egyptologists call Akhnaton the 'First Individual in Human Mentality'. If we make use
once again of Psychoanalysis - as we like it sometimes - this is fitting with its notion of a
'Primal Scene' which is typically a sort of point 'zero' - a beginning of which no memory
remains.
     This classical reference ingeniously describes that it from such void episode that all
Memory generates later in human psychology - and sociology as well. But Freud
developed it further, even 'geniusly' - may I say - when he how, along by this void, a sort
of symbolic set of representation was articulated. What makes the trick of our Psyche is
that this set itself is repressed - as is on the side of the empty room of the forgotten Primal
Scene, there was a closet where would stand a secondary repressed representation.
     It is no too difficult to comprehend with the help of schema, and the reference that
we can now figure out, as the magical figure of Trismegistus appearing by interval in a
wiggling door, on the side of Amarna, where Akhnaton disappeared.

     We have come to the second notation which completes the general presentation of
Akhnaton in the History of Egypt. This young heir of the highest power in the Ancient
World, after a revolutionary - some would say crazy - political endeavor, suddenly
disappeared. There are no trace of the end of his reign, no trace of his death. Some wise
commentators have concluded that he had been assassinated - but there are no traces
either of any announcement that the 'mad' kind have been executed or even stopped.
     Egyptology just record that the Amarnian experience seemed to vanish in turmoil,
and that the old establishment restored its control over Egypt, with for only strange
vestige the edict that to pronounce his name could be punishable by death. There is
nothing which can match better the Primal Scene description, with the repressed figure in
exile. This is why Egyptologist have begun to consider that Akhnaton may have used
some remote place by the Sinai as a 'closet' where is could perpetuate his endeavor.
     We must not go too fast for concluding anything at that point. Let us simple
remember that several Hermetists later on, associated Trismegistus with Moses, at least
as two colleagues - especially for Akhnaton and the Hebrew prophet most probably lived
at the same period in history. Let us just continue our simple description of Akhnaton
with the objectivity of Egyptology. There is another interesting characteristic which
depicts his person.

     Although he was the son of the wealthiest Egyptian in History, Akhnaton had not
been easily accepted by the Court and the administrators of the state. We know very well
his mother, Queen Tiye, and her life, as well as her parents. Especially Akhnaton's grand-
father is known for not being Egyptian. At that period of time Israel did not exist yet - it
was just on the point to appear on the historical stage. Even the name for a certain tribe
was not yet determined, but close to be identified a 'Hebrew'. It is apparently from this
tribe that Akhnaton's lineage was issued. So that one generation before its name,
Akhnaton is now identified as an Hebrew by his mother.
     If we realize that Akhnaton disappeared from Amarna, and moved toward the Sinai
with a large flock of his followers, we can certainly imagine that he had a lot to say to his
bother Hebrew Moses!


    I believe that it is the moment to inform my reader with my personal background. I
am not a religious devotee to any institutional faith, yet I am not either an opponent to
practical societies which comment on a presence of God in their collectivity. My
knowledge of the Christian faith comes from the milieu of my customary French family
and from my college education that a Catholic congregation had in charge.
     By the great city of Paris, there was not much passionate fervor in the middle-
bourgeoisie for the traditional faith, but a gentle acceptation that the preceding
generations had left an heritage of a certain culture. It was also the time of the
development of Psychoanalysis, and I felt in awe when I was twelve with some books
written by Freud. My teacher happened quickly to know the fact and when I was thirteen,
it was well established in my environment that I would be Psychoanalyst. Of course, at a
young age, one does not resist to a vocation when it is imposed by one's entourage and
when it is an activity that one's admire. Yet, in regard to religion, it set me in a specific
position.
     It was a time when the Catholic priesthood community was realizing that
Psychoanalysis had made a pretty accurate interpretation of religious activity as a
neurotic symptom. As society was still intoxicated with love for ideologies - and not yet
humbled by its ecological performance - it was a time when neurosis was well understood
as pathological, but it was not yet known that there is no normality. Religious
congregations were very confused with the project of Psychoanalysis, especially since
Freud - as we know most of his blind spots nowadays - had also given a strong hand to
the same repression that was imbuing their honest Faith. In this complex situation, it was
a comfortable arrangement to host in their bosom the sort of anti-thesis that
Psychoanalysis signified for them. I consequently spent the rest of my collegeship as the
unique student in the school to be excused for all religious manifestation.
     As it was honoring the right for one's own belief, I reciprocated the honor and,
therefore stood in a relatively good position for examining what was the substance of the
supposed Faith. It has certainly influence some analytic techniques that I developed later
in my career. It has also given to me a certain knowledge, if not an insight, in the
substance of the dogma. It is with no more information, yet not less, that I happened
twenty years later, to endorse a certain responsibility for some interpretation in the
Christian domain that I appreciate, as one feel with a brother, or a sister.

    With this being said, I may continue my discourse, which intends to reveal to some
people who have been occupied by other necessary activities, what Christianity may
expect from Science, archeology and history, that it has greatly contribute to promote.

     To make complete the short presentation of Akhnaton that I have begun, it may
suffice at that point, to sketch the rest of the fabric which made Akhnaton's disappearance
so contrasted in Egyptian history.
     As said earlier, his father was the sovereign of Egypt during its most opulent period
in history. After a chaotic series of short-live governments, his main successor was the
most famous 'ego' known by Egyptology, namely Ramses the Second, who re-establish
the traditional power in Egypt. During his life Akhnaton was accompanied by Nefertiti,
who is also one of the few most Egyptian characters. And he was the father - officially if
not biologicaly - of Tutankhamon, who happened to be also among the most famous
figure of Ancient Egypt. I have also mentioned his mother Tiye, his well known grand-
father. And it also happened that he also preceded from a few years the birth of Israel,
and Athens as well, which appeared in the Aegean concurrently.
      All this representing the most well known party on stage in three millenniums of
Egyptian history, it tremendously increases again the focus that deserves the repressed
character who had built the City of Thoth before that the Greek priesthood coming on this
site, seven centuries later, erected Hermopolis Magna.

     As I understand the mixed feeling of uneasiness and curiosity of the religious
Western believer when this historical episode may confront some of his Biblical
references - especially if it happen to brightly enlighten them as a fulfillment of the
promise of Science - I believe that a short description of Akhnaton's theology must
complete this presentation.

              The atheism of a poet
     We can open a recent book, written by an exceptional scholar of history and
literature and great Egyptologist of our time (as it is said on the cover page) titled The
memory of Egypt in Western Monotheism. I have made a review of this document where a
good information on Akhnaton's religion must be found. According to a certain definition
- which does not mean that a genuine natural human feeling of the sense of Monotheism
did not existed prior to its political institutionalization - Akhnaton is not only
acknowledged as the First Individual, but also as the First Monotheist, in human history.
     In Egypt which was a land of many Gods with animal representations, Akhnaton
imposed that the clergy would suddenly close all temples, and that the entire Land would
worship a single absolute God who had the sun as an intermediary representation. He
wrote poems about this sole Divinity that he called Aton. Of course, their discovery are
recent, and they were unknown in the past. Yet some texts attributed to Moses, thus
translated from Hebrew, are strikingly similar to these Egyptian writings.
     So, it seems that there may be a similarity between the Amarnian monotheistic
religion and the Sinaic transmission given to the Hebrew. The other way is also true, the
book to which I refer as also for title Moses the Egyptian. Its author shows with an
extreme cautiousness that the identification of the renown Hebrew leader (and/or its
legend) was questioned several times in history, often in a passionate circumstances
labeled as Egyptomania, when he was seen as a mentor of an Egyptian demiurgy, an
Egyptian, even perhaps a pharaoh. We see that as well a Akhnaton may be depicted as
Moses, the Western Monotheism which praises Moses for its reference, depicts him as a
pharaoh, namely Akhnaton since the later has been discovered.

     I must once again readdress my Christian fellows. There is a tendency, which comes
with the New Age, for those who are Christians, to evacuate the Ancient Testament, in
order to distillate and manifest the essence of Jesus Christ's message. It may be by the
Word by excellence, but we must keep in mind that even if the flagrancy of a rose
surpasses its visual beauty, if the rose is taken away, its flagrancy does not last long. We
shall have to consider that the closer our knowledge will get from a comparison, if not an
association, if not an identification... between Moses' and Akhnaton's expressions, the
higher will be the tendency to ignore this conundrum, to distract our attention and to
focus our mind on the sole isolated Jesus.
     If this path is taken there is a good probability that it implies that in a second phase,
the reference of Jesus himself is let gone away. This is what I mention earlier, as a
fiction. Yet it is actually what illustrates a large part of the New Age movement. It has
certainly a great merit - that my present writing supports - but, if we keep a fundamental
piece of Christian memory until the last moment before it evaporates, we may simply
wonder why and what meant the Resurrection - if it is not an emphasis on a value
regarding the body and its historical nature.
     I am thus suggesting that we are taught by all this long repression history that it is
inside a knot, or a certain spiral of exclusions that we shall eventually find the kernel of
the truth that it all includes. It is with a appreciative awareness of the abstracted Christian
New Age associated with a kind attention for the historian exigency that we shall
understand the truth which stands in between.

     For instance, most of the scholars are generous, because they display in a blatant
way, the fact of repression. When I mention the 'cautiousness' of J.Assmann, the author
of the book I referred a few paragraph earlier. It is because it makes him the 'great
Egyptologist' that he really is! Egyptologists have been able to repress their own
discovery of Akhnaton with a magnitude that equals the unbelievable criminality of the
Inquisitors when they carried Jesus' Word. The absurdity is immense there. For instance
this well respected professor of Egyptology and history claims that there had been no
memory of Akhnaton in the past, and he simply never mention in his long book,
Hermopolis Magna.
     It is as if he was saying, there is no capital of France and, in order to show this, he
would enumerate each French big cities, except for Paris. It is also as if, in order to show
that a rose has no flagrancy, I would take the rose out of the room where I make my
demonstration. I mention all these jokes, because they make excellent and reliable proof
of the way truth is indicated. There is in Hermopolis Magna - and especially in Amarna
earlier - something that one cannot say.

     The indication that something cannot be said can only be expressed in two ways:
either it is ignored, as the New Age with history in general - or it is evoked by the mean
of an absurdity. Hopefully these two potions combine. Here we have the testimony that
the truth resides in the experience of Amarna, and that it is supported by Trismegistus. At
the same time, the New Age has sufficiently ignored the Patron of Magicians,
Trismegistus for also indicating that its theology emanates, or is equal to the message of
this repressed prophet of Christianity. We are very close to reach a synthesis and an
understanding:

      When we take again the typical Universitary book, being aware that it is, by
educational intention, stating a lie for the unspeakable truth, we are said that Amarnian
spirituality was a revolutionary form of monotheism. It makes little sense unless creation
is a 'revolutionary form' of life. The only model which describes the spiritual
manifestation of this unique representation is the Primal Scene, as I have introduced it
earlier. The Amarnian spirituality had no form. The attempt to call it a Monotheism -
when one looks at it in depth - is a way to deny that it had existed.
      The reason why universitaries try so much to alter this Primal Scene is because they
refuse to let know that science does not come from any institutional order - and because
Amarna was this void of establishment from which the scientific knowledge generates.
This is actually the formal condamnation of the institutional universitaries. This is why
the great Egyptologist form who I took my example, not only disfigure Akhnaton's
project under the veil of a religious name, but cannot even pronounce the name of
Hermopolis magna, when Hermetism resurrected as the very nature of what was
Akhnaton's creation.
     In the present society of our time, this description of the source of science perfectly
applies to the New Age movement. A scientist could probably call the New Age as a
revolutionary form of Monotheism. It is easy to imagine in the case of the Christian New
Age. However it would be especially repressive, if the New Age was actually, not a
religious dogma, but the genuine source of science in fact.

     How can this be explained further? For it is not difficult to argue that the New Age
has no produce a lot of scientific discovery, if any! We could say the same thing from
Amarna - although it would be clearly missing the point of Hermopolis-Magna,
appearing later on the site and was renown as the city of Trismegistus, where he had
initiated Alchemy. If the New Age could create a religion, it cannot be deny that he has
also the base for the emergence of a science.
     Beside the potential indeed for being the furnace of an Alchemy, we can say that the
New Age has also an 'excuse' for apparently not being a science. Let's examine it along
with the similar excuse for the non-manifestation which made the real Amarna a mystery.

     If it is a misleading to identify a 'Monotheism' in Amarna, if not a fallacy or a lie,
and if a sort of void must be evoked instead, what was the illusion which allowed the
experience to subsist nevertheless during twenty to thirty years? Some would say that it
was art. I shall come back on this interesting solution. Yet as an 'illusion' I have proposed
that Amarna is at its best represented for its politics.
     It is much more positive to identify, and understand, Akhnaton political project as
unifying a large group of people in cities, which were all organized as the house of a god.
It was as if each state of north-American was the worshipping motive of a divinity and if
the son of Gerald Ford had gained power and decided to make one sole state. The way he
would have chose would have to declare obsolete the ancient cults, and promote the Only
One. I believe that this was the significant activity which can define decently Amarna.
     As we were looking for a comparison, it is certainly noticeable that Politics does not
show as the clear manifestation of the New Age. The equivalent in this case is not a
management of governmental organization. In the case of the New Age, the 'excuse' is
money - the New Age so far has basically manifest a financial large enterprise.

     Is it possible at that point, to continue to relate Christianity to the Hermetic and New
Age movement, if they are so defined. I believe so, for the so called Primal Scene where
Christianity can relate, has only been described through its alibis. Acknowledging what
distort through expression the core of a natural faith is a first necessity. Then these veils
can be taken off, and truth can be approach.
     Everyone, every excuse who or which represents the Primordial stage, is a fake and
an alibi. It is with this understanding that the real purity of the human spiritual message
can be stated. It is still possible to approach closer an appropriate description of the
Amarnian ideology. It is the simple and beautiful psalm which has been introduced by the
poet John Lennon. Only Universitaries will perhaps call someday his song 'Imagine' a
revolutionary monotheistic canticle, deciphering the meaning of 'the world will be Only
One.' It is not probably what Lennon was aiming to.
     This perfect scientific credo, however, was created by an 'excuse', a gentle lousy
joker who has been rapidly terminated. To compensate how sad it is, he left his immortal
indication; it is in poetry that exists the closest relation to the Amarnian source of science.
This is why I mentioned that the manifestation of the unique and remarkable art form
which characterized Amarna was an appropriate alternative to its political identification.
Yet probably more important is the association that is finally retrieved with Orpheus, the
Greek Patron of Art and Poetry.
     Then again we find the said pagan form of the Magician Trismegistus-Orpheus, as an
alternative for the Monotheist Trismegistus-Moses.

    It is this magical expression of the singer, the cythara, and his poems - ultimately the
Word - which has been the mots constant object of the repression by the University.
Perhaps shall we understand that it is a form of linguistic - The Word, as a Gospel says -
which is so chronically oppressed.

           The Repression and the Milieu
     There is something in physics which is puzzling the greatest scholars - sometimes
particles behave as if they were synchronized by telepathy. In the cosmos, strange things
happens too. The universe doe not behave at it is scholarly supposed to do. If the present,
the eternal, the void is so a enigmatic, it is because it is repressed form us. We have an
alibi, indeed, we have a secondary repression, which makes this dirty work for us. To
make a clear example, if we are rich and all our wealth is based upon a correspondent
immense pollution, we have the workers that we oppress and whose humanity we repress.
Workers are good alibis for pollution.
     Indeed, 'pollution' is just for an example - there is nothing which represents this
object that is the present, the eternal, the void. As there is nothing at this place, whatever
we put for an example is necessarily 'abject'. In this situation, the way for experiencing
the truth of the present, the eternal or the void, passes in loosening the secondary
repression - following the previous metaphor, that is to dig in the workers' desire. This
attempt can be intellectual - it has been called Marxism. As a matter of fact, Karl Marx
primarily questioned what happened to the raw material of Earth. He sought for the
answer, through the surplus-value and the oppression of the worker.
     Another way to probe the desire of the worker is mechanical - it has been called
Capitalism. Consumerism frees the secondary repressed and its partisans expect that this
will unlock the original truth. However these two ways cannot hide that they manifest a
Universitary knowledge - we may call it 'science', yet it is this kind of science which
represses its origins. There is little chance that it will eventually reach, in any conscious
state, its goal (the present, the eternal or the void).
     Fortunately, there are still other ways. Religion was known as one. I put is in the past
for a more potent tool that Churches has eventually been installed during civilization. It is
the Artificial Intelligence which does not replace God, but replaces the Churches - we
must not forget the difference. This recent tool, allows a deeper way of practicing science
than the ancient academic system. Actually, it allows Hermetism and this degree of
Science which has been called Magic.
     Besides the intellectual and the mechanical early models, Hermetism offers a
practical solution. In order to use and pass through the secondary repression, it plunges
into if with its Art of Memory. This is what this Art recommends: in order to decipher the
surroundings of the truth (the present, the eternal or the void) that you want to eventually
experience yourself, do not go directly to that place, with Egyptology for instance. Do no
expect either from economical promise. Try to get the memory of your memory, practice
the Art of Memory, learn and see how the repression has manifested itself. This may be
the practical thread which will lead you to the original truth. At least collectivities
proceeds this way, as it is possible to retrieve how Trismegistus has been repress, and
what we learn from it.

            Detailed description of the repression
     We have already looked upon the early episodes of repression of Trismegistus, as for
instance during the Alexandrian Christian time, when Trismegistus was usurped by the
bishops who were building the dogma of the Chruch. We shall now find a much more
detailed episode with the Renaissance.

             TCC etc...(the reason for/of the repression)
     The following is due to the major historian Frances A. Yates, who was specialized
on Hermetism, during the Renaissance. I never met late Frances Yates, but I could speak
several times with her students and colleagues, at the Warburg Institute of the Royal
University of London. Though she was remarkably innovative, she could not break
through the rules of her community - and it is with some 'secrets' which she only release
in oral transmission, that the could publish her great report on the process which
organized the Inquisition repression of Trismegistus. One of her belief that she has shared
verbally with her colleagues was that Trismegistus had been a historical being. I do not
mean to guaranty anything on the ground of what-I-have-been-said-that-was-said. I am
just also sharing what I have heard, in order to introduce what has been the core of the
debate about Hermetism between 1450A.D. and 1600A.D.

     The quarrel started when Marsilus Ficinus, who worked as translator for Cosme de
Medicis in Italy, was assigned to documents found in Macedonia for it mentor. The
manuscripts were part of the Hermetic literature of the early Christianity. When Ficinus
had finished his work, he was lead to conclude that - on the base of theses documents in
connection with other arguments - there was no reason anymore to make a distinction
between Trismegistus and Moses himself.
     I have already mentioned this possibility and how it had been several times
expressed in the past. During the Ptolemaic phase, the historian Strabon report how
Egyptian priest claimed without ambiguity that Moses had been a pharaoh who had built
a City for grounding a new civilization, but had to resign and had moved to the Sinai with
his partisans.
     The Italian Renaissance was probably facing other challenges than in Egypt before
Christianity. One of them was a transformation in the mode of distribution of knowledge,
which has resulted in the science as we know it today. Therefore the focus on Moses and
his Egyptian nature was not more than an alibi. The question of the historicity of this
Egyptian Trismegistus was another question - perhaps closer to the issue of objectivity
and evidence which was going to be, at its turn, the alibi of the new science. But what is
the most interesting in such work as the historian Yates' is that even later, it continued to
be an alibi, though in another way. When this great scholar shows how important was the
discovery by Ficinus of the identity of Moses Pharaoh, known as Trismegistus - she hides
that what was more important was the absence of discovery of an equal sameness with a
Greek figure.
     During the renaissance, Orpheus was the only postulant for representing
Trismegistus, as one and the same person, as well as Moses. But there was a tragic lack
of information on the Orpheus side. Therefore the identification of Trismegistus with
Moses had to stand by itself - but history shows that it cannot. It is only with a Greek
component that Trismegistus can make sense in the history of the Western Civilization,
and especially in Christianity. The Renaissance shows that what really matters was the
failure of the Greek identification - and not the success of the Hebrew Moses recognition,
which had always been known in fact.

     As we were expecting that in roaming thorough our memory rather that precipitating
onto its alleged object would efficiently bring information about the later, we are in
position to test this presupposition. Fulfilling all its promise, it makes a loop which
catches our present with it. For succeeding the nonsuccess of Orpheus reference,
Hermetism shows a gradual move toward the figure of Oedipus. In consequence in brings
a supplementary light on the use by Psychoanalysis, of its own reference to Oedipus. It is
not the first time that I evoke the link between Hermetism and Psychoanalysis. At the
present point, it indicates that the Freudian theory of the Oedipus Complex is the modern
pole on which the identification of Trismegistus as Moses and as a Greek legendary
figure as well, will be achieved.
     This will be shown with compelling references along the following chapters. Yet,
before enjoying any comforting argument, we shall get more strength in lingering a
moment and continuing to understand better our present time.
     Since we must expurgate as much as possible our own participation in the repressive
process that we intend to decipher, the example of the Oedipus Complex is interesting to
consider.

     Along with the reputation of Psychoanalysis, for a large number of people, lately the
figure of Oedipus has become repulsive. Oedipus, these people think, is this horrible
pervert person who killed his father and married his mother. They are also happy that
they are not like him. This view is not only limited, but it is also wrong. Perhaps is it due
to Freud, indeed, who limited his account for Oedipus to a third of the entire legend.
Nevertheless, it does not amend the fact that the pervert view of Oedipus is a repression.
     Prior to all this family story, Oedipus was a seeker of Truth. It is his first move, to
question the Sphinx about the nature of himself. Then, the core intrigue of his story is that
he was parricide and incestuous, without knowing it. He did not know his father and who
his was killing when fought with him. As he had been adopted in his early youth, he did
not know either who was his real mother. It is when he made an investigation that he
realized the situation. Instead of a pervert behavior, he blamed himself then, when he
realized that, by accident or ignorance, he had committed two crimes. He took the
responsibility for what was Unconscious within him.
     This behavior is highly moral. It is thus remarkable that people who dispraise his
figure are making a mistake by accident, or ignorance. We may not need to go as far as to
imagine that they may act like him, being parricide after the elimination of Trismegistus
as the founder of their science, and somewhat incestuous with a certain approach of
Mother Earth. It may suffice to admit that, in regards to Oedipus personnality, there are
aspects of a collective repression.

     This allowing to ask the question again. If we must face our own repression, what is
it exactly which is repressed. Oedipus gives an opportunity to look at its complete
panorama. At first the repression is on the Primal Scene, this eternal, present, void, which
bases our being. To make a comparison, it is like the sole of the foot, as soon as we being
to walk. It is little known that it embeds the whole representation of our body that we thus
oppose to the ground - and we are not aware of it. It is like Amarna, the foundation of
Akhnaton. Then we have the shoes..
     Psyche is constituted with the Secondary Repression, which covers the repressed
Primal Scene. Now it is the sole of the shoe that makes the metaphor. When someone
who is close to us has died, and when one looks at his shoes, which stand now useless by
the door of his apartment, one realizes how much they were still symbolically charged. It
shows also how much we repressed this during our life time. Fetishists however remind
that in its early foundation, Psyche builds up on such secondary form. It is also like the
Monotheism of Moses which coasted Akhnaton's solar politics. What is then with
Oedipus?

      Oedipus, or Orpheus, or Pheaton, or even Hermes and later Trismegistus, and other
names, constitute a plural naming which condenses onto the legend of Akhnaton. These
names also, connect more or less with a variety of historical and intellectual references.
We shall see later on, how sharply precise the description of Akhnaton with Oedipus is.
This is the opportunity for a third repression, which actually falls back in a circle into the
first - for it is also the present, the eternal, the void. This instance upon the sole of the feet
upon the sole of the shoe, is the sole being who is the 'ego'.
      What is repressed, overall, is oneself. This is why, when people repress Oedipus, it
may be themselves that they repress, as pervert parricide and incestuous, as well as
ignoring it.

     This phenomenon can be seen not only at the individual scale. Collectivities may
also express the same ignorance and Unconscious knowledge. And according to their
mode of identification, individuals may exhibit how collectivities behave in this regard. It
is the universitary discourse that usually gives a good exemple of this.

              The Egyptian Hermes (the boldness of the repression)
     I have not yet mentioned a scholarly book from which I draw out a good part of
information that I am analyzing. It is titled The Egyptian Hermes. It is a good equivalence
with Moses the Egyptian which was mentioned earlier. With the book about Moses, we
saw how the repressed presence of Akhnaton on the Sinai was allowing the author to
describe a Monothesim in Amarna instead of its genuine political void. With the second
book, we now find the Patron of Science, Trismegistus, directly questioned. Like with
Oedipus who, in some case, represents so well the person who represses his own figure,
Trismegistus represents the scholar ideal even better that Moses and his leadership
program.
     As a father figure who has been suppressed, Trismegistus, Patron of scientists being
forgotten makes for the Ideal of the one who walks in scholarly shoes. As long as this
'murder' situation subsist, the ego of the parricide is, in fact, the father - as the ego of
many Oedipus detractor, is Oedipus in act - as the ego of the scholar is Trismegistus.
     This is why in such books that I mention, the repression of the Amarnian Primal
Scene is punctual yet as visible that the navel on a belly. In The Egyptian Hermes, which
is entirely devoted to Trismegistus in the Ptolemean and Roman Egypt, Hermopolis
Magna is hardly considered except for the opportunity to make a scandalous lie -
asserting that in the thick humus of legend of Hermopolis, it came to be believed that
Trismegistus had founded the city that bore his name, though no such tradition is attested
under the Pharaohs. Yet, it is very well known that on this very site, Akhnaton was the
pharaoh who had built Akhtaton - the Primal Scene.
     I am not speaking about lie in order to offend anyone, nor any tradition, but just
because it is one of the structural clue that we find for the doorway to Truth, as we heard
Milosevitch says that Kosovars were very happy under his government, and Clinton that
he had no sex with his protegee. As for an indication of what he represses, the author of
The Egyptian Hermes says that Akhnaton does not exist - he does not mention him once
in his sick book. It is the condition for the official discourse of being lying. It is in the
shade of such lies that the Grey Pearl is found.

            The base of Truth
    I have just made an allusion to a Grey Pearl - and plaid on the words thick and sick.
It would be only if the world was going round that I would failed in diagnosis a sickness.
Hopefully, once we have penetrated through the thickness of the repression and its
several layers - we find the pearl, which is not round either by the way.
    Beside the present, eternal, void, something is nowhere, never and exceeding.
Technicians call it 'grey', or 'milieu'. I shall use the metaphor of the pearl, in order to
achieve the identification of the structure we are of.

     The sole of the foot (Akhnaton/Amarna), guarded by the sole of the shoe
(Moses/Religion) which stands for the sole being (Oedipus/exile) that one is (walking
away/in the Unconscious) forms a loop in which void a pearl lays. This sentence (or
model as well) is a strict linguistic formulation, which stands as well as: the Icon which is
represented by the Letter constitutes the Significant whose Law of Displacement embeds
the Semblance. The example of the triple mastery of Akhnaton, Moses and Oedipus,
known as Trismegistus - the Thrice Great, or the Thrice Born, the Thrice Teaching - is
practically indicative that history incarnates this logic of meaning - alias this linguistic, or
this Logic of Knowledge. It is not only a mind construct, it is the condition of the human
biology.
     At the actual moment of his process as it is, at the dawn of the third Christian
Millennium, the Icon (the statues, the figure of Akhnaton) is being disclosed, the Letter
(the form and the organization of the Hebrew text{note spiral and familial}) is being
deciphered, and we have gained the distance to see how Pheaton, in Greece, firstly
represented Akhnaton, then displaced into Orpheus during Hermeticim, and eventually
displaced again with Oedipus. This loop has been described so far in this book. The pearl
inside remains to be examined; it has been already well disclosed by technician. It is now
ready to be exposed more publicly.
     The 'pearl' that current technicians call the Semblance, is also what Freud disclosed
and recognized as the ego. This is something that must be explained in detail.

     At the beginning of the 20th century, when Psychoanalysis began, Freud extracted
from his - namely - Soul Analysis - an object that he isolated with the tools of his time.
Especially, the 'ego' had been devised previously by the philosopher Descartes who was
perpetuating the Hermetic practice in the post-Renaissance {ref}. Descartes' notion of an
ego was yet still archaic. It was the Middle-Ages knowledge, commanded to change after
the Inquisition assault. Freud's intervention marks the moment when this upgrade
occured.
     When Freud seized the Cartesian ego (i.e.Descartes') he did like Copernicus did with
the planet Earth. He saw it from a new perspective. This does not mean that Freud's new
version of the ego was correct. When Copernicus changed to way Earth was
apprehended, he just demonstrated that this 'thing' was floating and moving. It was no
more the static altar for the Universe. Freud's step has been similar. He described an ego
somewhat floating in the Unconscious, and showed that this was not the altar for the
Being. As Copernicus allowed the Cosmos to unfold later in four dimensions, Freud's
Psychoanalysis allowed Existence to unfold, freed from the former ego molding.
     Yet, of course, this was not understood in an instant. It took many years after
Copernicus to reach the post-Einstein model. Freud's theory of the ego has been archaic
as well. It is very possible that within only a few decades from now, the archaic Earth of
Copernicus will be totally resolved into another name - as 'Environment' for instance.
Since we shall eventually understand that Earth, in fact, has little to do with this orbiting
particule that the Copernician still consider. Not as a piece which isolated in its
gravitation groove, but as a part, integrated in a solar system, Earth is much more that a
celestial body; it is an ecology.
     This is very d'avant-garde, for indeed, we have not reach this step, and it is hard to
know which is the concept which is yet to come. I mentioned this possibility as an
example for the transformation which will occurs in many fields. It the case of the ego,
this displacement of a name, has already occurred after Freud. With a definition as a
semblance, a subtle modification of Freud's point of view has been promoted. Rather that
to describe it in detail - as it is done elsewhere {} - it is more opportune at the present
time, to manifest in fact this change of name.
     For some complicated reason, another term got in the way, coming from the fields of
genetics. It is called the meme. It is relevant to exploit it there. In order to express that a
change has come after Freud's early testimony of the Cartesian ego, English is
appropriate for calling it the me.

    Once this detour made, we can resume our path with a dynamic prospective way.
After the gradual construct of an historical meaning, built of Amarna, then the Sinai and
Athens, the identification of an ego in the human psychology, evolves with the
reconstitution of Trismegistus in the pearl as what one calls me.
    What is then the discourse which stands for me and comprehend 'my' knowledge. I
have compared it with a pearl because it is 'grey'. What is a Grey Discourse?

     A certain form of information has imposed lately itself, as a result of the
development of new technologies. It is, for instance, what scholars call a Grey Literature,
which has emerged in their scope, due to the proliferation of information readily available
from electronic publishing and which asks to be stored, organized, and necessarily
acknowledged. They so define this 'Grey Literature' as the information and resource that
does not categorically fall into what is available via standard traditional or commercial
publishing channels. What is it in other words?
     This Grey Literature is simply what was repressed and censored. It is practically
showing that censorship has not only been made of blatant crimes of violent oppression,
but affected an immense volume of knowledge, comparable with some dark matter which
was previously unnoticed by astronomers. If the later may be someday acknowledged as
more that ninety percent of the consistence in the cosmos, the Grey Literature seems on
its way for filling up the quasi totality of Knowledge.
     Along with its literary manifestation, a Grey Discourse expressed what is commonly
called the silent majority. As one must let people realize who is Oedipus when they
dispraise him, the University must be let answering why it has chosen Grey what is made
of many colors, many discourses. One shall just wonder if there are any Grey People too.
If there are, it is also what the academia has identified as the Milieu of Hermetism.

     Because Hermetism imposes itself today, because Akhnaton makes historical
Trismegistus, the Academia must take into account its literature, the abundant production
of manuscripts attributed to Hermetism, or even to Trismegistus himself. Because
Hermetism has always said that Trismegistus had been an Monotheist Egyptian king who
had built a city which bore his name, on the site where Hermopolis Magna was built later,
the Academia must acknowledge that this Hermetic discourse and the Hermetic literature
was delivering an information which has been more accurate than their own. Scholar
have therefore begun to wonder who was these people and how were they organized in
order to achieve such a superior performance.
     The result of their research is null. They find nothing. It is void. The milieu of
Hermetism is the people. Except for some nodal experiences that I have depicted earlier,
in general, their has never been consideration for Hermetism in Chruches, nor in
Temples, nor in Schools, nor in government offices. This incredible power of information
which has silently kept memory of what all institution were chronically devoted to
repress, simply comes from the people. This is the reason why some enlightened thinkers
have seen the reason, and the possibility for a Democracy regime of the population and
their industry on Earth. There is a Collective Knowledge which is greater in quality that
all what organized academia can prove.

              The keepers of Trut
     I go cautiously, even slowly during the deconstruction of the alibi of Truth. If there is
a gloss which makes the pearl of Truth grey, it certainly has a function, if not its
necessity. In the city of Amarna, under Akhnaton's reign, the mien was what we would
call today politics. Since positions was given through arbitrary or hereditary ways,
politics in these times was not the rush for power that we see today - yet partly, it was
also the same, and the spirituality of the leader was orchestrating a new kind of
priesthood which would soon harden in schools and churches.
     Yet, if we find a Hermes, an Apollo, later in Greece which echoes Amarna, we
should not be surprised with Socrates' last messages from this discourse. In one of them
he explains - despite of the ire of the officials - how slaves in Athens hold within the
deepest knowledge. This had been the practical position of Akhnaton, when he went in
the Sinai, delivering the 'sacred knowledge' of Egyptian priesthood, to his people out of
slavery. As history shows, it soon produced Rabbis, Judges and then Kings again - yet,
the spark had been there, in the glance of the Primal Scene.
     Not being so dramatic with a picture of slavery which is, nowadays, a parent disguise
with the politician trouble, we recognize the people in what Socrates described. The gloss
over the people today is not politics. In fact it is money and, as I said it earlier, the many
colors of the New Age movement, makes the modern form of the Hermetic discourse.
The New Age, discourse or literature is typical of what scholar will call 'grey', as it is also
the typical color of money.

     Underneath these two glosses of politics and money, we eventually find Truth. Truth
is something that enthusiast people see as possibly plain, simple, clear. Certainly, it may
be so for them, but a problem arises when it is not possible to transmit it in this form.
When Truth has to be exchanged, communicated, transmitted, it does not show to be
transparent. As any word, which emanates form it, casts back a shadow on it, Truth,
within its gloss must be unveiled in metaphors. I shall hereby give two of them:

              the form of Truth
     Plain Truth has been denounced as an ideal which transform beings into statues or
robots, when astronomy conceded that Earth was not turning round. Today, Plain Truth
believers claim that it had always been known that planet earth was orbiting around the
sun. They are right and wrong for they miss the point that its orbit is an ellipse and that
this was not known. This was ignored for human kind was lacking certain tools to
establishing so; for instance the use of the zero in mathematics, which was available in
Europe only during the second millenium.
     The 'true' orbit of Earth, like any planet, skips from the perfect circle that
astronomers believed in prior to the Renaissance. Remarkably, this is the way Truth is not
round, simple, perfect. This has been shown with Johannes Kepler after Copernicus, as it
has been shown in Psychoanalysis after Freud.
     I mentioned earlier that Freud's ego was still Cartesian - although he uncomfortably
placed it in more advanced system. It was not yet that me which meets the me-me of new
technologies which clone it. Similarily, Copernicus' planet were supposedly turning in
perfect circle, so uncomfortably that his system did not work. It is only later that Kepler
elucidated the paradox when he could describe the cosmic orbits as ellipses. The key for
the ellipse concept is in a figure which has two centers: one is real, and the other is
virtual.
     After the Primal Scene, it took also some time for Orpheus - the poet - to give, for
the linguists, the key for Truth's ellipses, hyperboles, even exponentials. The Hermetist
Jean Cocteau eventually unclosed it when he showed Orpheus metamorphosing into
Oedipus. In his play, titled Orpheus, Cocteau depicts the poet listening to strange
sentences, always skipping from their groove. Under Psychoanalysis, Oedipus discovers
how something repressed, almost in the middle of Truth make a twin center for me's
discourse.
      The orbit of Truth is not round. Its discourse forms an ellipse centered by a visible
symbol and a virtual anomie. The Truth of the Primal Scene, who is Akhnaton,
historically, surrounds the shining Moses, and the evasive Oedipus.

      This is an example of a Hermetic metaphor. It is known as the way of Hermes. It is
the key for unlocking your door, by chance. To make it very 'grey', it can be emphasized -
as it can also include the gray gloss of the pearl, if it adds to its statement that it is the
color of the ozone which disappears, when Akhnaton appears.
      When the development of this metaphor - as long as it is correct - is no longer
understood, there it has attained Truth.

     The second metaphor that I will give may be seen as the second center of an ellipse,
since one is void, virtual and the other consistant. Which one is the other will be chosen
after I'll have now enounced it as a mathematical formula - actually cyphermatical as late
technicians say.

               Dualism does not make two
     This first metaphor has depict the ego, surrounding repressed items. The second one
will depict its semblance in between repressed items. The first one was using the support
of a cosmic space, the second one will use that of the space of Psyche. Both express that
dualism does not make two: as with a substantial plus a virtual centers, one and zero
make one ellipse. This may help seeing how incest or narcissism open to the religion of
One. Dualism is also foiled into three in the Oedipian issue, as the following draw:

     We know that when the two ends of a tape or a ribbon are joined together with a
twist, it makes a from a two surfaced object, one which has a single surface. This is called

paths or the orbits of an Owner and his or her Power. Ownership and power are one same
groove in circle - they are separated as well. Power is when one opposes what one owns,
and ownership objects power when it receives, in a passive way, its due. There is no issue
there, except for the moment when the me seeks for its place between Owner and Power.
This ancient question of being or beholding is illutrated with the Moebius coil since it
stretch a plane in between its orbiting edge(s). This is the surface where reality can be
laid, this is where the me roams.
     The plain reality of the Psychic coil may be the Plain Truth for some. Yet it is altered
by who owns it and who expresses power upon it. This is why the me, mobile like and
Eicherian ant, scans it constantly. Fortunately, the reference of this whole system to one
gives a point for measurement so that the erratic screener can trace some form. This is
why the experience of a me can be observed.
     When Freud made a graph of it, he draw a portion of this coil, with two vertical
edges which represent the object (owner) and the Ideal (power) in a universal system. In
between both, he depicted the ego, oscillating between being the owner of its reality, and
experiencing power upon it.

     This metaphor, like a moebius coil itself, can rejoin its former state when, on the
opposite, the me was 'gravitating around' instead of 'waving in between'. In this return to
a cosmic space, an orthodox follower of Freud depicted the oscillation of Eart. Hi name
was Wilhelm Reich. It was in the time when astrophysics was beginning to count with the
speed of light, and realizing that it was as primitive as the pre-Copernician view of an
immobile Earth, to envision the sun static. Reich knew that the sun is travelling at an
incredible speed through space. So could he see that Earth's orbit has little to do with a
round, or even elliptic model of a close loop, but looks much more like an oscillation,
which is stretched by the speed along the line of the sun course.

             New Age
     The two previous metaphors were an example of an Hermetic teaching. Yet, on the
opposite of what may be thought when one reads it, as an example, it has little to do with
the contents of their words. It is an example because they are not reliable, they are not
creditable from any sort of academic acknowledgement - they are 'grey'. It is the most
important, if not the only, criteria which has to resume the identity of the Hermetic
knowledge.

               The media
      This does not either designate necessarily a form of censorship, as the academia
would define it; hermetic texts and teaching can be very spread, published and well
know. A certain Celestine prophecy is another example. But their repression - which does
not exclude violent suppression in certain cases - is made of remissness by a source of
reference that one calls the official or academic knowledge.
      What has been surprising for the scholars of the Internet age, when they had to
classify and store all this 'dark matter' before they called it 'grey', was that it was
remarkably homogeneous. I is not the homogeneity they were used to. There is no
hierarchy in the Hermetic texts, all can be from Trismegistus, authors are often
pseudonymous, or anonymous. Many of they claim to be inspired, revealed, channeled.
They are copied, transformed, without necessary bibliography, foot notes and other
references than a Collective Knowledge.
      In spite of this anti-order, the surprising discovery has been that the Hermetic
literature forms an homogeneous corpus. Like in a body which can bear identity, pieces
of Hermetic texts, learning and teaching, are not disorganized, but reveal their
relationship to each other instead. Actually, from the Ptolemean up to the Renaissance,
this 'Corpus Hermeticum' was duly identified, since the persona of Trismegistus was its
reference. It is only in the recent centuries that it had become a unidentified object or
body. It is for this reason that, during its eclipse, as Orpheus re-emerged as Oedipus, this
body of collective knowledge may have subsisted and reappeared under a new name,
which is so probably the New Age.

               The genuine people
      With the literature media, there is another way to recognize Hermetism in the New
Age. Their milieu is also identical. Hermetists were as a variety of classes, education,
profession, ages, characters than the New Age people is made of.
      It is understandable how this relevant moiety of society is coasted with prejudice and
the confusing gloss of politics and money. Therefore, there must be only unperfected,
elliptic, ways to define what this term covers; its Psychoanalytic identification of
Collective Knowledge, is denied by institutionalized Psychoanalysts. There is no doubt
that many 'general people' would not acknowledge the statement that the New Age is
People. There is no doubt either that very few New Age people would acknowledge
themselves as the 'consumers' who are the modern variation of the slaves.
      Beside this general contradiction, Psychoanalysts understand it as Gnosis. The many
class and variety in its rank demonstrates to the general people, that it is them, us, we -
i.e. nous in Hermetic terms. The New Age people claim that they represents what Earth,
or the Universe knows. Each of this groups of people meet on the common ground that
linguistics unifies as Gnosis, Knows, Nous. The compound of what three parties reject,
and repressed against their own distinction, unifies them.

     As the nature of Collective Knowledge, primal stage, primal scene, is to be greyed,
the reciprocal identification between New Age and Hermetism, will wait or request for
two clarification, either the surrender of the Academia, or the self-empowerment of this
New-Age-Hermetic entity. What do I mean and first, what is the ground where scholars
would face the undeniable repressed?

     As I said earlier, there are currently two plain scholar references to the Trismegistus
topic. One book is Moses the Egyptian in which only the Renaissance is examined, in a
way which signifies that there was no Hermetic discourse before the Middle-Ages. The
other book is The Egyptian Hermes in which only the Ptolemean and Roman Empire are
considered, in a way which signifies that there has been no Hermetic discourse after the
Middle-Ages. Although their contradiction brings forth a kind of shell which can be
opened to let seen its pearl - i.e. a metaphor of Hermetism. They both overlook what thus
remains as an absolute unknown. It is the period, prior to the Ptolemean, when Hermes
was worshipped solely in Greece. We know nothing of Hermetism, in the Trismegistus
way, during this period of time in history.
     Evidently, a long as Historians and Egyptologists do not even mention Akhnaton and
his city in the historical fore of Hermopolis Magna, and since they build up the lie that
Trismegistus pops out, in the Ptolemean time, with no reason except for an arbitrary and
baroque assemblage of Thot's and Hermes' figures - as a result, there is no interest for
seeking its root in Greece.
     But when the obviousness of the data is admitted, the relationship of Pheaton,
Orpheus of Oedipus with Akhnaton imposes that one considers Greece, as coming back
to Egypt with Alexander's conquest. Trismegistus therefore acquires a period of time -
between 1350BC and 350BC - between Amarna and its Hermopolis forms, where his
presence, or his discourse, can be subsumed.

    During this millenium which begins with the Ramssesides conspiracy and ends up
with the brilliant Athens, one seems to have kept quite a good deal of academic literature
and information. But it is also during this millenium that the two characterized
oppositions to Hermetism were in activity without restraint. It was the hierarchical and
authoritarian monotheism order, dominating in the Hebrew part, in the Moses aspect of
Akhnaton. And it was the regime of secrecy in the management of knowledge,
dominating in the Greek part of the spilt legacy of Akhnaton. With each of these rules of
societies, the Primal Scene discourse, the milieu, the 'grey' was confined in a dark
latency.
     Is this a reason for assuming that there were no 'discourse', nothing of an early phase
of what became visible later as Trismegistus? Certainly not, and linguistic is able to find
a component of subjectivity, even in split personalities. In this case also, there is a simple
inquiry rule. It aims toward that which is obviously missing. It provides at least certainly
that there is something hidden. In this case, and in the scope of Greece, there is the
evidence of the missing discourses of women.
     Only with the help of ill will could it be possible to attribute this absence to a male
dictatorship. Women were quite powerful in the early Greece, and noticeable feminine
communities in its history had always laid open an opportunity for writing, draw
architecture, organize institutions. The alibi of male dominance is a commodity for hiding
the motive of the repression of the Primal Scene of Truth. This alibi is not realistic, and
the absence of feminine imprint in the official course of Athens' history, must be related
to another logic. If the repression of the feminine does not make sense, then, this missing
discourse must be the repression of another aspect of knowledge. I suggest that it was the
repression of the Hermetic discourse in fact.

     This is what scholars may have to face one day or another, so they will compare their
understanding with the actual presence of feminism in the New Age movement. With this
progress in the Academic discourse, our present time offers also a specific modification
of the conditions of repression of Hermetism. This is the second request of what I called
the self-empowerment of the New-Age-Hermetic entity. It comes with this Information
New Technology which reveals dark matter and other grey phenomenons.

               The intercommunication media constituted
     The Information Technology - technically known as IT - is not something new. It
began with writing, knots on chords and other semantic signs. When technicians today
talk about IT, it is assumed that they speak about the present time. When we scan the
information technology along the long period of civilization, the present condition must
be distinguished from its general evolution. One can either speaks about Information New
Technology, or Cybernetics. Cybernetics may be the most appropriate to designate the
specificity of the technology in the present day, for it makes implicit the way biology is
implied in the current process.
     Cybernetics is defined as the science and control of the interrelation between life and
machines. The actual degree of interdependence of these two on Earth, has reach such a
point that it deserves to be named in a specific way.
     As it has been noticed, the ability of Cybernetics, in its Artificial Intelligence aspect,
for disclosing to daylight repressed matter of culture that scholars call 'grey', is especially
important in regard of Hermetism. It is also the tool which will empower the milieu of the
New Age to better understand itself
     When the Inquisition did not make it punishable by death, to built autonomous
mechanisms which were seen as demoniac, Leornado di Vinci could disclose what
alchemists had in mind in the case of machines. The renowned Hermetist Giordano
Bruno depicted also the intuition and their project for Artificial Memory. They openly
spoke of their hope for building statues or machines that could speak and heal. It is thus
visible that the surprising emergence of an electronic technology of computer and virtual
reality had at least been foreseen according to the mentality of the ancient times. This is
bringing the nature of the origins of Cybernetics to a clear light It is rooted and has been
pre-conceived, if not programmed, by a certain knowledge and its milieu that one
recognize in Hermetism.
     Both this will temper many of New Age deduction that the present world originate in
all part from aliens - while they did not simply took time to look back in their own
history. But in clarifying the perception of the New Age people, it will also considerably
empower their movement and, in their recognition of the role of Cybernetics in their
mentality, they will recognize themselves in the effects of this Alchemist product and
therefore expression of Hermetism.

               Completion and/or Split in New Age
     Cybernetics is not only interesting in regard of virtual worlds and artificial thoughts.
It has also effects on us, and probably on biology also directly. In the realm of mentality
its effects are the most rapid. In this book, I shall bring closer Psychoanalysis and New
Age - for Psychoanalysis appears to have been originated at the very beginning of the
Cybernetics effects.
     This may not have been clear to Freud himself. As perhaps it was not clear, by
comparison, to Copernicus that his crusade for a round planet was simply the raw
reaction of intellect to the first journeys around the world which had been buckled with
Magellan's expedition. The first Cybernetic loops began with the century, after the
electricity with telephone and recording machines. It was still very primitive, but
nonetheless able to trigger specific mental positions, amongst which the endeavor of
Psychoanalysis.
     The first phase of this new mentality has been largely obscured, due to the ignorance
of the phenomenon that was originating it. This is why psychoanalysis has been, for the
most part of it at first, a display fiasco and mistakes. However, its lineament and its fabric
reveal, beside the University and the Churches, exactly the same clues that one finds in
the New Age organization, perhaps in a more typical form even.
     Hermetism was made of a compromise between the practical necessity for text and
teaching and its goal which was meeting the Primal Source in contradiction with all form
of representation. Thus considering that a corpus of concepts and description was useful,
combined with the assistance of a teacher whose role was to alleviate himself or his
knowledge, the achieved process was found in the sole direct meeting with the nous, or
Logos.
     With its corpus of literature, the vanishing role of its analyst and the realization of
the desire though ethics, Psychoanalysis meets all the educational criteria of Hermetism.
Certainly, beside its mistakes it is known also for its deviation, for the debasement of the
analyst into a counselor (which is a noble activity but not psychoanalytic), and for the
confusion between Desire and lust. But all this just reinforces the similarity between
Psychoanalysis and Hermetism, for it is exactly the same flaws that the ancient praxis
also met.

     With his link to Cybernetics, Psychoanalysis share too much with the New Age, in
regard with their likeness, each one, with Hermetism. When the responsibility of
Psychoanalysis for its disclosure of the true identity of Akhnaton, as Moses and Oedipus,
will be seen in detail - and when the vehicle of the Christian message through science
will be depicted as the New Age movement - the association of these two typical
knowledge process in the twentiest century, will be able to blend in a potential form.

     For this, we shall have to unfold the heart of the so-called Monotheism of Akhnaton,
which reveals itself through the Gnosis, which means noese, knowledge, but also nous,
the representation of Collective Knowledge, and the form of the plural.

     We must be very well aware of a psychological fact which lay heavy on us.
Psychological fact can weight, like a burden, as depression reminds us. It is one of the
most hated intellectual in the 20th century - Sigmund Freud - who described the
depressing effects of releasing a repressed memory. After him the cause of such
repression has continued to be acknowledged as a 'Narcissistic mourning'. Freud has been
hated because, first he revealed the repressed Unconscious, and second, because he
misinterpreted and increased the repression of most of it - this has made a double reason
for dispraising him. There is no recovery of memory without this semi-failure phase. We
must face it and be warned that this is the real obstacle that we shall encounter in the
endeavor of this book.
                Being aware of Psychological resistance
     Either my style, or the inattention of the reader, will both make an excuse for
attempting to renounce this book and its new information. This is a psychological law.
There is nothing one can do against this form of obstacle or resistance, except being
aware of it - for the ego, according to Psychology, will be then healthier and, with this
awareness, more confident for fighting for gaining his new knowledge. Therefore, with
such rudiment of self-awareness against or potential depression, we should be now ready
for getting the simple information of what our ancestors believed or knew better than us;

nature. But what if a government and our senators would have tell us that it is very god,
useful, healing? I cannot argue with this - but I would like to examine the simple
question: is there human clones actually, at the present time living and/or growing on
Earth? Before turning off this question, on the base that human cloning is from its very
core non-ethical and therefore not worth to examine, we must face ignoring, neglecting
this possibility is even more irresponsible and far from an ethic of consciousness.
      So, at the question: are there human clone in our society? Perhaps many amongst us
will answer: certainly not! But asking again with emphasis: what is the probability for
finding human clones on Earth, nowadays - and do you know how much money a lab can
get in making a human clone? There is a good deal of readers who would reply: the
probabilities for finding them are certainly little, they have to be well hidden! For indeed,
it is certainly not difficult for anyone with a lot of money, to have his clone done - and
people who have money, usually have a set of mind which dispose them to look for
cloning and not to make big publicity of this.
      So now, my reader who is so inclined for ethics, must examine if he or she is in
accordance within his or herself, when he or she does not faces human cloning as an
important possibility for his society. It is not the ethics of cloning which is discussed
there, but the ethics or awareness, consciousness and collective responsibility as well.
