many environments and cultures as possible. That has meant physical environments from the
Hudson Bay to the Florida Everglades (and even an Asian rainforest). It has included trips to the
opera and to plays on Broadway; and it has also meant preparing and eating meals with
homeless families, and helping homeschoolers in the inner-city. It has meant portraying in
public the roles of a Renaissance family, a Dickensian family, a Civil War family, and a Native
American family. Their passion is to encourage other families to immerse themselves in
homeschooling adventures!
Tricia Shore has been a technical editor and writer for over nine years. She also taught English
for five years, at North Carolina State University. She is the homeschooling mom of three boys.
Shirley Solis is the mother of 5 children (she is expecting her fifth baby in mid June). She and
her husband Gus live in Florida for half the year, and the other half is spent traveling around the
country in their motor home. She's an enthusiastic and encouraging homeschooling mom who
will touch hearts in her sessions as well as at her Lifetime Books and Gifts booth.
Susan Stiffelman is a learning specialist and marriage and family therapist in Malibu, California,
and is currently writing a book on helping parents raise passionate and resilient kids. Her own
son was homeschooled most of his life, and she has counseled many families on making the shift
to homeschooling, as well.
Tammy Takahashi has written for Home Education Magazine, Life Learning and Live Free Learn
Free magazines, and she is the author of the upcoming book, Deschooling Gently: A Step by
Step Guide to Fearless Homeschooling. She is a mother of three (9, 6 and 3), an online activist,
and an educational blogger ( Tammy enjoys writing fiction, reading
far too many books, and hanging out with her awesome family.
Karen Taylor is the editor of The California Homeschool Guide, a book widely recommended as
a "must read" for beginning California homeschoolers. A long-time CHN volunteer, she and her
husband homeschool their youngest child, who is now 16, and has never attended school.
Kristen Taylor teaches private piano lessons in the High Desert and is completing a Masters
Degree in music. She also directs the music program at Zion Lutheran, is a much sought-after
accompanist, and serves as musical director of a men's barbershop chorus, The Hi-Country
Harmonaires. Kristen has volunteered for 5 Expos as the vendor hall manager, and is the
daughter of Karen Taylor.
Jim Weiss is an extraordinary award winning storyteller, and his stories and workshops will be
enjoyed by children and adults alike. He has won over 75 national awards, and will be traveling
from his home in Virginia to spend the weekend with Expo attendees. With a focus on classical
literature, history, and science, Jim has created more than 35 recordings on CD and audiotape
and won the hearts (and ears) of listeners throughout the country. This is his second year at

Melissa Zawrotny homeschools her two young children, ages 7 and 3, and is a very active CHN
volunteer. She is a member of the CHN Legal Rights Team, specializing in making those tough
phone calls to school districts to resolve problems!
