							              Training Workshop on Climate Change and
              Natural Resource Management in Pakistan

Organized by Ministry of Environment Government of Pakistan, in collaborations with
Inter- Cooperation, United Nations Development Programme from 29th May to 1st June
2007 at Best Western Hotel Islamabad.

A four day workshop was Organized by Ministry of Environment Government of
Pakistan, in collaborations with Inter-Cooperation, United Nations Development
Programme.

First day begin with the recitation of Holy Quran, with an open remarks by the Secretary
Environment, Government of Pakistan, and a key note address by the Minister of State
for Environment, Government of Pakistan, on Climate Change and Natural Resource
Management in Pakistan.

In this workshop the core issues were discussed, what is climate change and how to face
it, the strategies proposed by the UNFCCC for Adoption and Mitigation, moreover the
impacts of climate change on our daily life and changing environment.

The sector of forestry in Clean Development Mechanism was discussed on the second
day of workshop, international regulations for forestry activities, the eligibility criteria for
a forestry project to make benefit in CDM, thirdly the institutional, social and
environmental issues. The group work on the ‘eligibility for the project of forestry’ where
the participants were divided in four groups to discuss and understand how to see the
eligible and how to develop a project.

Carbon accounts and monitoring was discussed on the third day of work shop, that how
the carbon credits are issued, what is the method, and how they will be monitored by
agenciec in future. More over the key concepts of small scale A/R projects were
discussed as a simplified mythology. The group work was arranged for the exercise of a
A/R CDM projects.

The last day’s discussion was to reduce deforestation so the emissions can be avoided,
the bio energy in CDM cell its possibility and its limitations in the area of NRM also as
an strategy for adaptation and mitigation in Pakistan.

The evaluation of the workshop with closing remarks and vote of thanks.
