					The Urban Shift

There are several key factors creating the
urban shift:

 Demographic Changes

 Suburbia losing its appeal

 Financial Industry Restructuring

 Global Competitiveness

 Energy
Block By Block Revitalization

Underutilized properties in established but
challenged neighborhoods present a significant
opportunity for developers

Despite economic downturn there is an increased
appetite from capital markets for infill projects

Built block by block by small to medium-sized
developers, infill developments are the catalyst for
revitalization and improving the lifestyle of
residents
Jobs Follow People

The idea that people will go where the jobs
are is obsolete

Jobs follow people: Create a place and
lifestyle that nurtures talent and jobs will
follow

Technology makes this possible

Low-density sprawl is ill fitted to a creative,
post-industrial economy

Density creates a climate of innovation and
progress
                      The Comeback Kid
The Greater Phoenix area was listed as one of 8 urban areas defined as
‘comeback kids’ in a recent Urban Land Institute study. Criteria included:

Attract talented workers and new investment
Offer a variety of housing options
Capitalize on natural resources as amenities
The Movement: Fostering an Urban Lifestyle

Integrate education, economic prosperity, recreation and a celebration of Arizona

Retain the region’s young, culturally diverse and well-educated population

Develop an environment friendly to early adopters, innovators and entrepreneurs
Answering the Call

A multi-city urban redevelopment and
investment initiative

A stronger, more connected regional urban
identity

Intercity partnership and dedicated Board
of private and public sector leaders

Entrepreneurial approach to obstacles
                            The Discovery Triangle

The Discovery Triangle connects the area between downtown Phoenix in the west, Tempe and
the ASU Tempe campus in the southeast, and Papago Park in the northeast.

This 25-square-mile urban core boasts more economic opportunities and amenity-rich,
quality-of-life enhancers than any other region in the Southwest.
