Near Time Events and Deadlines

District Office Closed Tomorrow
Don and Mary-Ruth will both be attending meetings out of the office, so the district office will
be closed tomorrow. We will reopen as usual on Monday.

Clergy Meeting Date Change
Due to several major conflicts, it is necessary to change the date of the next clergy meeting to
Tuesday, August 19. We will still be meeting at Ferris Heights at 10:00.

Information Needed: What’s Your Legal Name?
Time is Running Out! If you have not sent this information, send it now. If your church is
Incorporated, your legal name is the last name you filed with the Secretary of State.

Charge Conference Schedule (repeat)
The charge conference schedule is attached. Remember that charge conference forms can be
downloaded from the conference website http://www.ctcumc.org by clicking on “Forms”.
Please feel free to ask Mary-Ruth if you have any questions or concerns.

Your Photos Needed! (repeat)
We would like to put together a photo album to welcome the new Bishop and help acclimatize
him or her to the Central Texas Conference. To that end, we are asking if each pastor would
please provide the district office with a picture of your church and your parsonage
family. (Please include the names of everyone in your family photo!) You are welcome to
submit digital photos via email. Please send all pictures by no later than September 1.
Conference News

Bishop Lowry’s Welcoming Service
Bishop Lowry’s Welcoming Service will take place at 6:00 on September 14, at Fort Worth FUMC.
Please see the attached invitation for more information.

Senior Adult Training: September 1-3, Mount Sequoyah (repeat)
Are you starting a senior adult group? Are you leading a senior adult group in your church or
district and need ideas? This training will assist you in all areas of senior adult ministries. Come
learn from experts in the field and network with other leadership from around the jurisdiction
September 1-3 at Mount Sequoyah Conference Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Dr. Gentzler, director of the Center on Aging and Older Adult Ministries, the General Board of
Discipleship of the United Methodist Church, Nashville, Tennessee is the keynote. In addition to
Dr. Gentzler’s sessions, there will be five workshops with leadership from Kansas, Oklahoma
and Arkansas.

Young Adults: Looking for a meaningful way to connect? (repeat)
Join CTC Young Adults – college age, students and young professionals for a long weekend of
service and fellowship.
March 26--29, 2009: UMVIM Young Adult Mission Trip
Aldersgate Enrichment Center in Early, Texas is a ministry related to the Central Texas
Conference of the United Methodist Church to meet the needs of physically and mentally
challenged adults. Employment and life-skills training are provided for those of our society who
otherwise would be considered unemployable.

A Message from the CTC History Committee (repeat)
The Central Texas Conference History Committee has been working since 2006 on the History
of the Central Texas Conference. Many members of this committee have been working on
various topics and subjects. However, we are keenly aware that a great many members of this
conference have been involved and participated in many areas, boards, commissions, and
programs of the conference and have wonderful and insightful details to add to our story. We
would like anyone that would like to contribute a recollection, insight, behind-the-scenes
notation, story, or comment to do so. We have noted the various areas and topics we are
covering. We have a Web site for this history at http://ctchistory.com HOWEVER, we have a
blog (the place you can send these comments) at http://ctchistory.com/blog. We would be ever
grateful to hear from you with any anecdotes, serious stories of struggle, or just fond memories.

Fall Leadership Summit: Missing: Young Adults (repeat)
The Central Texas Conference Fall Leadership Summit on Young Adult Ministry will take place
on Sept. 6, 2008 at FUMC Mansfield. All pastors in the Waxahachie District are strongly
encouraged to attend this event! Come learn ways to build community and reach out to young

Corsicana FUMC Seeks Music Director
First UMC of Corsicana seeks a part-time music director. The job requires approximately 15 hrs.
a week. The music director will select choral music and worship responses, direct the Chancel
Choir, and help facilitate the music ministry of the church. Interested persons should submit

Midlothian FUMC Seeks Contemporary Worship Leader (repeat)
Seeking a Contemporary Worship Leader for 11am Sunday service averaging 150 in
attendance. Need keyboard/lead guitar skills. Previous music leadership experience. 10-12
hours per week. Sunday morning plus rehearsal/planning. Excellent facility/sound/multi-

Free Piano! (repeat)
Wesley UMC has an old Ellington Cincinnati upright piano to give away. It still plays OK but
needs tuning. We need to make room for another one recently donated to the church. See
picture attached. Could you put this in the next district email that goes out. We need it moved

Corsicana FUMC seeks Part-Time Organist (repeat)
FUMC of Corsicana seeks a part-time organist/pianist to play anthems, hymns, preludes, and
postludes for its two traditional Sunday services. This person will also accompany choir
rehearsals on Wednesday nights, play for special events, weddings and funerals as needed.

Director of Music Ministries (repeat)
First UMC Alvarado seeks a part time (10-15 hrs per week) Music Director to be responsible
for the over all music program. Responsibilities include: Leading music in worship, leading Bell
Choir, Directing the Chancel and Children’s Choirs and developing a Youth Choir. Experienced
candidate must be spiritually grounded, energetic, and able to energize the
congregation. FUMC Alvarado is a mid-sized congregation (190 average worship attendance)
located 20 minutes south of Fort Worth (I-35W and Hwy 67). Email resumes to

Ovilla UMC Seeks Youth Director (repeat)
Ovilla UMC, a growing church 30 minutes south of Dallas, seeks a part-time youth leader.
Applicants should be able to work on Wednesday nights and on Sunday with Jr. & Sr. High
youth programs. Responsibilities include working with adults, a youth council, summer youth
mission trips, summer camp, and leading Bible Studies. Flexibility and personal maturity are
required. With a youth program of 20 active, well-rounded youth, this ministry desires an
energetic, personable self-starter to grow the youth ministry to the next level. Salary

Please remember the family of Vina Mae McAden (surviving spouse of Lynn McAden) in her
recent death at the age of 98. Rev. McAden served the Blanket and May churches in the 1980’s
until his death in 1988.

Fort Worth
Bobby Cullen’s (Lighthouse Fellowship) father is home recovering from a heart attack he
suffered last Thursday.
Bill Bellamy (husband of Kathy Bellamy and father to Bryan Bellamy, Arborlawn) continues his
recovery from lung transplant.
Vicki Eldridge’s (Church Growth & Development) sister Polly dealing with serious health
concerns and will soon be going to M.D. Anderson in Houston.
Raul Gutierrez’s (Arlington Heights) daughter, Jessica is hospitalized and making wonderful
progress in her recovery. She will hopefully be moved to a rehabilitation hospital at Baylor
Dallas in the next few days. Please keep Jessica, Raul, and Elsa in your prayers. Updates on
Jessica Gutiérrez will be posted on Caring Bridge. This is a website that has been set up so that
everyone can keep informed of any changes in Jessica’s condition. The website will ask for
some personal information from you but it will not be shared with anyone. The website will ask
