Several of the articles in this issue mention the USY Fall

special story that was shared at our staff meeting after

Our weekend was filled with religious services, meeting

On Friday night, USY led a lively and fun-filled Shabbat
service filled with music and ruach. The young people
who spoke and presided from the bimah were poised,
confident, and eloquent. Their enthusiasm and love of
Judaism was evident and was highly contagious.

Because of my own ushering commitments for the
weekend, I personally had to attend both b’nai mitzvoth
on Shabbat. It was a long day of standing in high heels
for me. After the Mincha service at the synagogue, I went
to pick up my girls at the Chai building. Their service
was still going on…and on and on it went. Finally, it
was time for Havdalah and it was a truly memorable
and beautiful experience. Everyone broke into small
circles, locked arms and swayed to the melodies. There
was so much warmth and friendship, and a great sense
of joy in Jewish practice and ritual. I thought it was a
truly beautiful experience for everyone, and there were
hundreds of us there to share in it.

Hi. My name is Blake and I am preparing for my Bat Mitzvah this August. I’ve recently become involved with
Heart to Heart, an organization that raises money for the Children’s Home for Jewish Girls in Netanya, Israel.

Lev Lalev (Heart to Heart) is an orphanage in Israel that cares for over 100 girls without families to care for
them. They provide food, home, education & love. Many of these girls have lost their families from terrorist
attacks, sickness, neglect, abandonment or physical abuse.

Some of these girls are reaching bat mitzvah age and wish to share in the joy of a celebration but have no family
to provide this for them. With Thanksgiving coming, I began thinking about how grateful I am for my family
and how difficult life must be for these less fortunate girls.

As part of my mitzvah project (Tikun Olom--repairing the world) it is my wish to share my Bat Mitzvah with
one of these girls and to help them become a Bat Mitzvah. I am raising funds to be able to provide for all the
expenses associated with her bat mitzvah.

The girl that I am supporting, Miri, came to the home two years ago. She was a victim of physical abuse and
was removed from her home. I would like to share my Bat Mitzvah with her and provide her with lessons, a
photo album, a new dress, shoes and a party.

Please click on this link www.blakesbatmitzvah.net and visit my web page where you can donate and make a
difference in her life and hopefully if we are successful, in others as well.

I can tell you that the donations go directly to the child and the impact directly to these girl’s hearts. The girls
stories have brought me to tears and made me appreciate all that I have. I am so lucky to have such a good life,
and these underprivileged girls should be able to have some enjoyment too. I know that the joy of giving can be
wonderful & I hope you get an opportunity to experience it as well.

Over the coming months you will also see Heart to Heart canisters at various locations & establishments around
town. Please consider donating and maybe together we can provide for even more than just one underprivileged
orphan. Also, please check back to the site in March when I will be selling Passover candy via the website. All
proceeds will go toward the Heart to Heart organization.

Thank you for considering this mitzvah and for helping me reach my goal. I know we can make a difference
together and if you could pass this email along to all those in your contact list we stand an even better shot!

I look forward to updating you periodically with our success!

My deepest appreciation,

Blake

with all our hosts invited to join in with circles of friends. MUSY- Dec 2nd, Dec 9th, and Dec 16th
That night the Chai rocked with music from the 50’s to Kadima- Dec 6th and Dec 20th
present day and $400 was raised for Tikun Olam. Sunday PreKadima- Dec 13th
morning, along with our 5th grade classes we were treated Katan-Dec 12th
to Shacharit Live, services with live music including our Youth Commission-Dec 13th
own Evan Fox taking his Sax into the audience. With
that, it all soon came to an end, tears were shed and just Happy Hanukkah and Happy 2011!!
like it started, there were lots of hugs. Yasher Koach to Ohev Shalom for a great Kinnus,

As amazing as this weekend was, it could not be done Lori Solomon
without the outpouring of help from our own Ohev Youth Director
Shalom family. Words cannot express the gratitude that
I have for my shul family. Whether you hosted, helped
with a meal, chaperoned the dance or came out to enjoy
Shabbat with us, we could not have done it without you.
It shows what makes this congregation special to be part
of.

I must thank the following people, who were there
all weekend- Robin Gartenberg, Barbara Godlewicz,
Michele and Marc Herling, Jeff Sacks, Myriam and Yossi
Kuba, Laura Landau, Teri Levinson, Neil Kipnis, Claire
and Michael Fox, Eric Silverman, Lissette Pigliacelli and
Bonnie and Steve Silverman. Most important thanks go
out to Dina Delacruz and her dedicated staff, without
each of them this would not have happened.

That was not all that happened in the Youth Dept
in November. Kadima, PreKadima and Katan had
their own exciting programs and MUSY still had their

                   FREE to ALL MJC members

There is one God Who created the world and actively cares about the
goings-on of it. This God created man with a purpose to fulfill, and
explained that purpose in the Torah. This is the Written Law, and it is
meant to be understood in conjunction with the Oral Law, which was
eventually written down in what is called the Talmud.

On Tuesday evenings (except the first Tuesday each month) at 8:30 to 9:30 pm in
the main building learn why things are done and how Jewish laws are
interpreted.

Talmud is taught in English by Rabbi Darnov and it is a very laid back
class and highly interesting. Plus there are no tests, either written or
oral. Just knowledge imparted.

Come enjoy with us.

       Keruv, Let’s talk about it.
A practical guide for the extended interfaith family

                               The wedding is over.
                               The kids are married,
                               and one is not Jewish.
                               Will there be bliss?
                               Will there be grandchildren?
                               Will they be Jewish?
                               How will you celebrate holidays?

... and how best to talk about it?
   * How do parents and children speak to each other?
   * Are some topics off limits?
   * Why is it SO difficult to talk about this?

Intermarriage affects everyone in the extended family.
It may not be part of the "ideal image" you had, but it is
now part of your life.  Learning how to talk and how to
listen to each other about these sensitive subjects is
essential to being part of each other's lives.

Join us and “Let’s Talk About It” and discuss these issues and learn
how our interfaith families deal with them on December 12.

The program will be facilitated by Sharon Yaged, a certified social
worker and Elliott Brown, a trained Keruv consultant.

                Upon Kindling The Yahrzeit Candle
O God, Source of live and love, we turn to You at this time of remembering, As we
light this candle in memory of our departed.
In Your Keeping, the soul of our beloved still glows, As brightly as
                                the “heavenly firmament.”
Truly, “the human soul is the light of the Lord.”

By Your light, may we who lovingly remember see light:
And may the memory of our departed abide with us, as a lasting
                                            benediction.
